I posting this because EVERYTHING on this economy that these candidates have to say needs to be heard, by the PEOPLE, for the PEOPLE:

Nalita --
This morning Barack called John McCain to suggest a joint statement of principles that would help Congress resolve the immediate financial crisis.
Then John McCain went on television and said he was suspending his campaign and that Friday's presidential debate should be postponed.
Barack spoke about the crisis and took questions from reporters a few hours ago.
He also made it clear that -- with only 40 days left for the American people to decide who will be responsible for leading our economic future -- it is more important than ever that the scheduled debate takes place.
Please take a minute to watch the video of Barack's press conference and share it with your friends:

This is an important time, and we have to keep this campaign focused on the crucial issues.
Thank you,

Second total BS with him cancelling the debate. He is scared of facing and getting a lickin from Obama.
The bailout has been going on for days why didnt he do this at that time. It may have made an impact but now it just shows he is a coward.
It is about passing this information to THE PEOPLE.
Has everyone in the Country -- including those on Gather -- heard Barack?
I would expect a president to multi-task. Debate and participate in the bail out proceedings. We have the tech to do it! Did I say tech? Oops!
Or was
McCain knows that in a Debate he will be exposed for his Positions that led to this Republican Financial MESS and he has no way to explain (though the Republicans will certainly try to Twist out of it... It's what they DO)...
Neeetah, Excellent! Thank you...
The Sliminess of McCain's Stunts (Going to the Media after Obama called and suggested the idea to HIM (Wasn't the Media evil and reviled by the Republicans??? HUh... guess they were a useful tool for their scheme when he wanted them) and Then trying to weasel out of getting PINNED on his De-Regulation positions in the Debate)... are Pathetic.
But it's Par for the Republican Course..
From the responses of folks everywhere... Nobody is fooled by these Stunts...
I am soooo upset -- it goes past annoying to FURY!!!
I don't think that Congress should be the ones handling this either, or at least not those who have taken monies from these CROOKS; the ones who have taken money should recuse themselves from modifying and/or writing a bill/provision . . .
oh, and speaking of THAT! Watch the word, "bailout"cease being used by them, just like Bush not using it last night. Did you notice that? He used a softer, gentler phrase, but no matter HOW you say it, it comes out the same --
BAIL OUT!!!
Why not set up an ad hoc Committee of American Citizens -- an "advisory" Committee, so to speak, to represent US (the PEOPLE), since they all keep feeding us the BS that we are now "investors" in this $700 billion ripoff. Blah, blah, blah.
Bush very sneakily blaming US (the Citizenry) for getting those corporations into this mess -- did you notice that in his speech?
Then, he turns right around, and asks us to DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN!!!
Something like this:
"Youse people are the reason for this mess, by gambling that you could buy more than you could afford,
HOWEVER,
Youse people . . .NOW
need to help MY people, MY buddies, by GAMBLING AGAIN on a LARGER scale and getting into
SOMETHING GREATER that YOU KNOW you cannot afford!!!
No promises, no guarantees!
But youse people need not worry! If it doesn't work,
We'll just pass it on to your little kiddies, and let THEM worry about it.
Hee hee hee!
Suckers!"
If you think I'm joking,
I AM NOT! Take a second look at Bush's speech, and see if this isn't EXACTLY what he's saying to you . . .ON THE SLY.
Now THAT is how you spell, "J-U-S-T-I-C-E".
rather than the usual way the big guys are accustomed to having it spelled:
"J-U-S-T____U-S" (all "justice" is for "just us)
We have not advanced so far in Technology that a personal appearance does not have an effect on an outcome. Obama should have enthusiasticly agreed. People will remember McCain putting the Nation ahead of the campaign.
Although the video is 17 minutes, Barack only speaks for what, about 4 or 5 minutes, and then for the remainder of it, he is taking questions from reporters. Surely, in those several minutes, you got the gist of what he was saying.
Here's the thing -- example:
Many years ago, I took a test prior to being hired for the telephone company. The last part of the test required multi-tasking.
They had each of us listening to some joker on an audiotape giving specific information. We HAD to listen to what he was saying, else we would not be able to follow his instructions later. Oh brother.
+
We had to complete algebraic equations
+
logic problems
At certain intervals, the audiotape joker would tell us to "STOP!" doing everything and follow his instructions, so that no matter what we were in the middle of, we had to stop and obey him. After we did what he wanted, we could resume what we were doing before. This activity was intermittent, and you really wanted to whack this fellow. It's called, "STRESS". The telephone company was also testing how well you managed stress with your multi-tasking.
(Mind you, all of this was timed, and it was not expected that we would complete everything, although I did complete everything. I was right out of college and accustomed to this kind of test-taking nonsense.)
That kind of thing is frustrating and stressful to someone not accustomed to it, and only two of us, out of about 150 people passed the test. They designed the test that way.
SUMMARY:
I've no doubt McCain would have FAILED that test. Obama was have PASSED it.
McCain cannot chew gum and walk; Obama CAN chew gum and walk.
We need a President who is able to do many things -- MULTI-TASK
and it IS a skill
We need a President who is able to (MULTI-TASK) --
Manage a financial crisis AND
Do a mere 90 minute debate
Deal with a War in Iraq
Deal with a War in Afghanistan
Handle situations going on with Russian and Georgia
Handle situations going on in Iran
Handle situations going on in North Korea
Handle situations going in Israel and the rest of the Middle East
(not to mention)
Handle ALLLLL the situations here at HOME
Health care
Unemployment
Social security
Education
and so forth.
________________________________
If one crisis is going to bog you down to the point where you must go running to it, then you aren't qualified to be President.
Presidents are like CEOs
Presidents manage.
Presidents delegate
Presidents have advisors and a Cabinet to keep him/her abreast of what is going on.
Presidents have far too many things to manage to run to and fro each and every time . . .
Presidents are supposed to use wisdom and sound judgment; Obama and McCain were NOT NEEDED yet, were they. What was accomplished today with Obama and McCain being there? NOTHING!
This might be seen as a pre-Presidential test of how each of the two would act in the event of a crisis, if they were President. Obama WINS hands down. McCain . . .well, McCain is frightening. He had little to say in the meeting with Bush and the others, whereas Obama -- it is reported shined, like a real leader.
If I have to tell you this, then you need to go back to Civics class; this stuff is easy.
Bottom line, and everyone -- the Media, the pundits and even America knows it -- McCain blinked.
Period. The end. He has just sealed his own fate. He lost. He showed no leadership at all, but merely got in the way of negotiations, and negotiations have failed.
