Answer the question: Did he vote against the bill?
NO! HE DID NOT VOTE FOR OR AGAINST THE BILL. HE DID NOT VOTE! HE DID NOT VOTE! HE DID NOT VOTE!
Get it!
McCain's opposition to the bill is as follows: The most important to difference between Webb / McCain: Webb offered veterans who served one elistment the same benefits offered to veterans who have re-enlisted several times. McCain wanted a sliding scale that increased benefits to veterans based on their length of service. It was McCain's contention and that of Secretary of Defense Bill Gates that the Webb version (w/o increasing benefits based upon length of service) would reduce retention rates by 16%. That's why he did not vote on the final version of the bill because that provision was gone and only the Webb provision remained.
McCain should take credit for: increasing veterans education benefits to $1500; eliminate the $1,200 enrollment fee; and provide $1,000 annually for books and supplies. HE and Lindsey Graham should also get credit for allowing veterans to transfer their benefits to their spouses or their dependent children. HE and Graham also wrote in the provision that a veteran could use the GI Bill benefits to pay down on existing loans. These two provisions written by McCain / Graham were compromise provisions that Webb accepted into the final version. Webb praised McCain for writing these two provisions.
I spent the better part of yesterday reviewing the Congressional Record, FactCheck, the archive of the Daily Congressional Digest, the Washington Post, the New York Times and on and on to get the above info because this kind of slime started showing up on this site yesterday!
Believe what you will but don't force feed others with your slander and spin! By the way, check out FactCheck for a little about Obama's record.
The spouse clause is in there.
You can also take this to the bank: Senator Obama missed 45.5% (291) votes during the current Congress.
McCain just hurt his campaign bad by stopping it and using the bailout crisis for political reasons and to try to get out of debating Obama.
McCain is a big part of what has gone wrong with our economic system and the push toward socialism.
McCain also thinks Burnake should be allowed the power of a dictator and hijack out economy and be sole ruler over us.
Obama is for veterans and they support him because they can read the voting record better then you can.
Mention Gramm and I will run, he is the sleaziest man on earth who caused this crisis by pushing the deregulation act.
You have to accept that republicans have failed to live up to their agenda platform or oversight...They have gotten comfortable with having power and laisser faire attitude and now is biting them in the ass.
Secondarly the neocon fascists regime is not going over very well with me and americans everywhere.
They need to go and find out , who they are ...hell , a revolution is possible if they get elected again.
No more Bush, no more bailouts, and no more socialism in the republican party!
HE DID NOT VOTE! HE DID NOT VOTE! HE DID NOT VOTE!
Apparently you have not checked out FactCheck.org RE:Obama's record on voting for Veterans benefits. Obama has been a good little Democrat. Every vote Candidate Obama has made from thus far in favor of vets is "for" bills that have the net result of increasing taxes and/or the deficit.
McCain is anti VET, anti capitalist, and anti American.
McCain thinks the Bill of Rights was written for the Bush gang and nobody else.
They are all fascists!
When 78% of the public says no bailout I think you can call that a majority but is Bush and his gang listening? Is congress listening? No they are going about their socialist ways and probably already trying to come up with the next plan to support the corporate fascists.
Do you really think this is going to bring the economy back Dan? It is just prolonging the inevitable downfall using our tax money.
