Geotags - I don't like em.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't like geotags, and I'll tell you why!  It seems like a waste of time and space.  It takes up so much space you have to scroll more, i end up going to far and miss the ratings.  *sigh*  I don't know, what value is that supposed to bring to gather?  I guess I can see if you want to point out your vacation spot but why your house or local park?  Isn't it more of a safety issue, really some people are geotaging their houses!!  No way id give out my address on Gather, let alone my city. 

I'm not telling everyone to stop using them or if you use them you are *insert any mean word here* , but my question is why?  Don't they take extra time for you to post?  Isn't time a fleeting fantasy already?

Geotags are making me less likely to rate and comment on images, which makes me sad.  :-(

I use them for the zoo or vacation type pictures - and then only once in awhile.

I don't like them, either for the same reasons - they take up too much space, you end up scrolling more so it takes longer to rate and comment on things, and it is definitely a safety issue if people are giving out their home addresses.

I don't like them either but its not that big of a deal to me. I don't plan on using them and I've even seen peoples GeoTags tag a city by the same name in a totally different state..what good is that?

I put the nearest large city,well away from where I actually live, but if we live on the road, I think I'll love having them

I like them if you're going to write about general places - museums, zoos, vacations, cities... But, yeah, the idea of tagging your own house etc. kinda worries me.

'Geotagging' is a great idea, and can lead to many cool uses on Gather. However, like other things in the community, the initial rollout of this capability was poorly planned and designed. Geotagging options should be collapsible, minimized or elective to reduce overall impact on publishing. I also hope that we begin to see some of the robust applications appear on Gather that make use of the geotagging information (see all community images from this location, etc.). It is these options (or widgets) that make geotagging come alive. Without them, it's just another half-baked idea.

I don't like the geo-tagging either. I understand using them on zoo and park photos. But not on your pets or kids. I guess living near so many wacko's have made me a little overly cautious when it come sto my family.
