We have a Kroger in our town, and just 7 miles away a new Meijer opened (a Michigan based "superstore"). We went last night to check it out. They had some GREAT grand opening specials.
Buy 1 loaf Aunt Millie's bread, get 2 loaves free
I had a coupon for $.35 off one loaf, which they doubled, so I got 3 loaves of bread for less than $2. We're eating sandwiches this week :) and still putting bread in the freezer!
Crest Toothpaste $.99
I had a $1 off coupon, so it was free.
Iceberg Lettuce $.69 per head
I paid $1.79 for a head at Kroger last week!
Plus, all city residents got a promotional pack with coupons good for $10 any $50 purchase (1 coupon for each of the next four weeks).
So, in the end, I spent $65 and saved $45. I was pretty happy with that. I got some gorgeous meats and produce (honey crisp apples! cabbage 4 pounds for $1!), diapers and some more expensive things like batteries and insect spray.
My Kroger doubles coupons up to $1, while Meijer only doubles up to $.50, but I think between the two stores I can get some great deals.

Honey Crisp apples - oh I am so jealous! My sister in Minnesota has been eating them too - they have not made it down south yet. I need to get to Minnesota!
