Thanks, guys. We're not sure where it came from, but it ended up in our yard.

It kinda looks like some sort of Clemitis-the one that grows all over the place like a vine-with big flowers-try planting it and see if it grows next year!

The pods look similar to milkweed, but not the foliage. The stem is too skinny to be milkweed, and the leaves don't look right.

Glad you ask about this I know my moms new guy loves plants and loves them better than Bill ever did and he knows what a lot of them are i can show him this plant later and let you know. I will post again for you about this later if you like. I am always glad to help you. Who knows maybe it is a plant that you can get tgo grow for you that will come back ever year and you can have something pretty to look out at in your yard besides the birds.

This looks like milkweed because of the pods.

I looked at about 15 pictures of different milkweed, and it doesn't really match any of them. Without the pods, it looks like an ivy vine.

Definitely not a milkweed, but I'm not quite sure what it is.

Ah, Google is such a wonderful tool! I believe what you have there is a Honeyvine Milkweed.

Thanks, Elaine. The pictures of the Honeyvine Milkweed look just like the plant sitting on my table. While I was reading, I discovered that Monarch butterflies eat only milkweed. I guess that's why we have a few Monarchs fluttering around now.

I still plan on getting my mom to look at this plant of yours I just have not had time to show her the plant yet. I will try and do that today. I am sure between her and her guy they can tell you what they think it is.

Marilyn, now you have hit on something I do know about! Monarchs! Every year my friend and I go hunting for Monarch eggs. The Monarch only lays her eggs on Milkweed plants....one egg per plant! If you find more than one egg it is because more than one monarch laid her egg on that plant. The monarch caterpillar will only eat the milkweed plant!

My friend is a sixth grade math/science teacher and her students love it when she has the monarchs! If you look on the underneath of each leave, you might see a tiny white speck....that is the egg. When we go hunting and find the eggs, we dig up the plant and pot it as the plant has to be living in order for the monarch to feed off of it. Once the caterpillar is ready to go to crystalist......not a cocoon......it will climb up a special net enclosure my friend has over the milkweed. Just before the butterfly comes out the crystalist becomes almost clear and you can identify markings on the wings. Her classes look forward to the day they take the butterflies out of the classroom and release them!

(Don't even get me going on raising Polyphemus or Luna Moths! LOL! When my friend has an overflow of those, I end up raising them in my home! LOL!!!!!!
