Autumn Leaves Placemat

Do you remember waxing autumn leaves with wax paper and an iron?  I do.  Here is a simple, fun, autumn craft that is made the same way. It's a great craft to make with the kids!

PRESSED LEAF PLACEMAT

Supplies:

  1. Leaves
  2. Wax paper
  3. Iron
  4. Towel

Instructions:

Measure an approximate size for your placemat.

You'll need two sheets of wax paper per placemat.

Cut, measure and set aside.

Gather your leaves.

Place one sheet of wax paper (wax side up) on your work surface.

Add and arrange leaves as desired, no more than one layer thick.

Add top layer of wax paper, wax side down.

Place a thin towel over your arrangement.

Using an iron set on low, slowly and carefully press the iron into the placemat and glide across surface.

Repeat after flipping placemat over.

Allow to cool.

Trim edges and enjoy!

I was going to do this to the first red leaf of the season and I laid the leaf on the kitchen counter and when I went back to get it my cat had got hold of it and tore it up *lol* We use to always do this for school projects I had planned on doing this and if it turned out I was going to help my grandkids make these leaves it was always a fun project when I was young I always had so much fun trying to find pretty leaves of different kind.

I remember those!
We used to do this with both leaves, and crayon shavings (the wax would melt, making pretty designs).

It is a great project, my wax paper gets little use these days.
I remember this! I loved it-going otside as agroup and looking for the biggest leaf! I am so surprised that I haven't done this with my kids!! Thanks for reminding me!

I remember doing the peanut butter on the pinecone, but had to give it to a friend. We had cats and it seemed wrong to feed the birds - like putting out bait.

I remember doing this for my 2 older kids - except we hung ours in the windows as suncathers.
