My sis in law Kelly was given a pass for a family of 4 to Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, CT. JoAnn C. volunteered to drive as she loves zoos. We decided to take my nieces and make it a Girl's Day Out. My sis in law decided to come along as well after much coaxing. She didn't want to infringe on our quality time with the kids. I am posting my article about it now, but will be posting the pictures throughout the week. I haven't had a chance to go through the 200 or so pictures that I took yesterday!
When we arrived at the zoo, we were pleased to find out that they offer a discount for AAA members and also if you have a Big Y card (local grocery chain). We purchased the last ticket we needed and entered the zoo. When I got home last night I got my 2009 Entertainment Book inthe mail and they have a coupon for the zoo this time!
It was a beautiful day for this trip. We really couldn't have asked for better weather. There were quite a bit of people there, but it was not crowded. It was nice to be able to spend as much time as we wanted at each exhibit without feeling like you were rushed along by someone behind you. The zoo was very well laid out and had a nice flow to it. To me there weren't a lot of animals, but I'm use to going to much larger zoos. They had a nice carousel with wooden horses that you could ride for $2 each. I opted to stay behind as I've been having back problems but gave the kids each the money to go buy tickets. Auntie Kim's gotta spoil them ya know! I tried my hardest to get a nice pic of JoAnn and the kids, but it just didn't work out. We finished up at the zoo and went to the gift shop. Here the girls took forever picking out what they wanted. They each got a nice little soft plush.
I absolutely love lighthouses. Before leaving in the morning, I saw that there was a lighthouse in Bridgeport. I shot the link to JoAnn since I didn't have time to write downt he directions. After the zoo we went in search of the lighthouse. It was very pretty. There was a long rock walkway that we thought went to the lighthouse. It ended next to the island that the lighthouse is on. I was very disappointed with this but got a few photos anyways. These rock walkways always scare the crap out of me so I was very proud of myself that I made it the whole way out.
We decided to go out to dinner as well since it was already well after 4 and we were all starting to get hungry. We decided upon Hometown Buffet so we wouldnt' have to stufy a menu and there's something there for everyone.
All in all, it was a very nice day. It was our first Girl's Day Out together and we've decided to do it again in a couple months. =)
