The election is soon upon us, and I’m not thrilled with either of the Big Two running for president. I thought I’d see who else is running for president and see if there might be someone who is worthy of a vote.
According to Wikipedia, the following is a list people running for President of the United States:
Bob Barr – Libertarian Party
Cynthia McKinney – Green Party
Alan Keyes – America’s Independent Party
Charles Jay – Boston Tea Party
Gene Amondson – Prohibition Party
Ted Weill – Reform Party
Gloria LaRiva – Party for Socialization and Liberation
Brian Moore – Socialist Party
Roger Calero – Socialist Worker’s Party
Ralph Nader – Independent
I had to visit all the websites to see what these people stood for. This is a short synopsis of what I came up with.
Bob Barr – Loves guns and medicinal maryjane, wants to give tax credits to home schooling families, transform Medicare and Medicaid and pull out of Iraq. Looks all American, but a little wimpy to be a leader with that mustache.
Cynthia McKinney- African American woman with a woman VP on her ticket. Here’s our chance to get in the white house ladies! I found it difficult to really get a good idea of what she was all about from her website. It was much talk and no real answers. And I didn’t feel like spending all day there. I did find out that Roseanne Barr is voting for her because she would vote for a woman over a man any day. Makes sense to me.
Alan Keyes – African American who loves guns, Federal Marriage Amendment. Wants to repeal the 16th and 17th Amendments. His party “demands the immediate securing and continuous vigilant maintenance of our sovereign territory and borders” Also, they “believe in a supremely strong, prepared, and well-equipped civilian-controlled United States military”. He is knows for his Christian Doninionist views on the role of government and societal issues. Just in case you didn’t know what that means, I looked it up in Wikipedia. (for you)
“Dominionism describes, in several distinct ways, a tendency among some conservative politically-active Christians, especially in the United States of America, to seek influence or control over secular civil government through political action — aiming either at a nation governed by Christians, or a nation governed by a conservative Christian understanding of biblical law. The use and application of this terminology is a matter of controversy.”
‘Nuff said about that one.
Charles Jay – There is not one thing on his website that tells anything about him. It’s almost blank. Wikipedia was also of no help except for the fact that he’s worked in the sport of boxing as a manager and spokesman and this: A former member of the U.S. Libertarian Party, he stepped down from the race for the Vice Presidential nomination to the 2004 ballot to run as for President under the Personal Choice Party banner. His vice presidential candidate was Marilyn Chambers, a porn star famous since the 1970s. Can’t vote for him if he won’t tell me anything about him.
Gene Amondson – He is an ordained minister who does paintings and wood carvings and will marry you in his chapel for $400. His total platform is the fact that he is against booze. That’s it.
Ted Weill – Born 1925 which makes him older than dirt, and he looks it too. No site anywhere on the internet had any other information on him. How does he expect to run for prez if he can’t even get a site up and running. Heck, even I have a site to tell you what my business is about!
Gloria LaRiva – Pro abortion and civil union marriages. She believes that we should “pay reparations, with interest, for slavery”. Here’s her beliefs on corporations: “Capitalist system creates war, poverty and racism.” Also, she wants to give free quality health care for everyone. She doesn’t say how she plans to do this though.
Brian Moore – Looks a little like Santa Claus without the beard. Has an African American running mate. If you go to their website, you can read all of their platforms, it is very informative. You all probably know what the socialist party is all about, so I’m not going into details here because there’s so much information, that I didn’t really feel like reading it all. I’m working on a deadline here.
Roger Calero – Was born in Nicaragua in 1969. I’m a little confused about this guy. Isn’t one of the requirements of being the President of the United States that you have to be a natural born citizen of the United States? This guy is here as a permanent resident alien holding a green card. Forget him.
Ralph Nader – Wants to adopt single payer national health insurance, cut the huge, bloated, wasteful military budget, pro solar energy not nuclear energy, aggressive crackdown on corporate crime, impeach Bush/Cheney, reverse US policy in the middle east, and repeal the anti-union Taft Hartly law. Looks like a possibility to me.
Believe it or not, politics is not my forte. I'm tired from all this research. Does anyone in this list look like a good possibility to you?
