With the fact that Obama voted with the dems 97% of the time, does that mean he is the same as all the other dems? No bipartisanship?
Senior research scientist John Lott at the University of Maryland writes in The Philadelphia Inquirer "the 90 percent figure from Congressional Quarterly is nonsensical" and says most of those votes were just procedural. He adds, "Obama might want to be a little careful with these attacks, as the same measure has him voting with Democrats 97 percent of the time."
He cites research from the right-leaning American Conservative Union, the liberal Americans for Democratic Action and the non-partisan National Journal. It indicates that from 2001 to 2007, McCain voted to the left of most Republican senators and to the right of most of his Democratic colleagues. Americans for Democratic Action even says McCain voted liberally 24 percent of the time - twice as much as the average Republican.
Unlike Bush, McCain supports a cap-and-trade program that would set a national ceiling on carbon emissions.
McCain has called for a "great national campaign to put us on a course to energy independence," adding that the next president must be willing to "break completely" with the energy policies of previous administrations.
McCain opposes drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, once a top goal for Bush. McCain said the federal ban on offshore drilling should be lifted, allowing states to pursue energy exploration off their coasts.
Bush opposes a windfall profits tax on oil companies. McCain has voted against similar taxes in the past, but this month he said he was "angry at the oil companies not only because of the obscene profits they've made but at their failure to invest in alternate energy."
McCain has sought to emphasize his differences with Bush by portraying himself as a stronger opponent of pork-barrel projects and other wasteful spending. He says he would not sign any earmarked projects into law and would cut financing for ineffective programs.Bush has so far allowed earmarks in spending bills, but signed an executive order this year directing federal agencies to ignore earmarks that Congress did not vote on. McCain would also put a one-year freeze on discretionary spending, except veterans benefits and the military.
McCain, distancing himself from Bush, said he would pursue a new arms control accord with Russia. His proposal to eliminate tactical nuclear weapons in Europe and his calls for nuclear talks with China set him apart from the president as well.
In 2006 Mccain supported a trio of U.S. Senate bills designed to increase federal funding for adult stem cell research, ban the creation of embryos for research and offer federal support for research using embryos slated for destruction by fertility clinics. In 2007 he voted to allow research using human embryos left over from fertility treatments.

The change we will get from Obama is not the change we need.
www.rightchange.com highlights some of the up until now not widely circulated aspects of Obama's tax plan.
Small main street businesses would be forced to pay tax rates as high as 62.3% under Senator Obama’s tax proposals.1
Senator Obama’s tax plan would tax small businesses at a higher rate than Wal-Mart!2
Taxes on retirement income and savings could increase by at least 33%, hitting millions of seniors when they need these resources the most.3
4 million workers over the age of 50 – those eagerly looking forward to retirement – would be hit with increased tax bills. 4
Millions of Americans would only keep 38 cents of every dollar that they earn.5
Senator Obama’s tax plan would reduce the after tax wages of millions of workers by 17.7%.6
It will take 227 days per year, nearly 8 months, just to pay your tax bill!7
97,065 carpenters, 110,908 police officers, 254,992 nurses, 208,562 postsecondary teachers and 237,000 dentists would see tax increases, if the earnings cap was successfully eliminated.8
10.3 million workers would see an average of $5,650 taken from their paycheck and given to government programs.9
Here is another little tidbit.
Under McCain's tax plan a family of four doesn't start paying taxes unti they reach almost 39 thousand dollars of income, that same family under Obama's plan will start paying taxes at 25K income.
Nope Obama is NOT the change we need.
I do like Lott's work, he single handedly turned the gun control issue on its ear a few years ago and despite the noise, his points have been impossible for the gun fearers to refute.
Here's how the average tax bill could change in 2009 if either John McCain's or Barack Obama's tax proposals were fully in place.
