I don't qualify to comment, but, since takes more than a sound bite to explain, many people are not listening.

As usual tax breaks don't effect me. I am still out the money for no good reason.

Even if I were earning over $600 thousand per year it would be worth the $12 dollars that Obama's plan would cost me to get the current set of rascals out of Wasnhington.

In reality taxes have nothing to do with the strength of the economy because a dollar represents nothing and until that changes we are at the mercy of the Federal Reserve and the Central Bank which are NOT govt controlled entities.

I don't qualify. But I have to say that I sure as heck like Obama's proposal.

Fred, I think if you grow up comfortable you just automatically assume everyone else does too (BTW, the "you" there is generic and doesn't mean, well, you specifically). It makes them not give a damn for other people. I think a great deal of the problem is ignorance/stupidity and an even greater part is the greedy I've-got-mine-so-screw-you attitude. The latter is wildly overrepresented on this site.

I came from a family of money

my dad made $150,000/year (back in the 1970's when that meant something)
prior to 1979 I didn't know what generic peanut butter looked like

when we moved to florida in 1979 we were dirt poor;
(my dad had a heart attack and triple bypass surgery, forced to retire
left my mom and his five kids
and we survived on Social security

that is when I came home from school and asked my mom

"what is a G.D. yankee, and what does Ni**er mean?"

my mom said where did you hear that?

I said, "the kids at school said I was a G.D. Yankee, and I should stop hanging out with the Ni**ers"

my mom told me, that was not how she raised me, I could hang out with whoever I wanted to.

Ocassionally you will come across those who truly deserve it and not take it for granted. It makes you feel good, and thats good enough for me. 1. The Big Dig is the rule of highway projects and not the exception.

5. The FTC like the Reserve is an independent organization designed to prevent you from competing in the worlds markets unless you're part of the elite and is responsible for the lack of quality and safety of the goods we buy.

6. If the FBI was worth their existence many of the people in our offices at all levels of local, state and fed govt. would be behind bars for the ongoing fraud and in-alienation of rights against the citizens of this country including many of the other "regulating agencies" you have listed here.

7. The CIA has been riddled with not only failures but out right crimes against the United States. Even Al-Queada is their creation they trained Bin Laden.

8. The department of education is another major failure of the federal govt that produces no benefit for the children and is becoming ever intrusive into the families of America. Ignite! Neil Bush is a loser who can't make anything of himself without corruption and coercion.

9. FEMA has unresolved issues further back than Andrew and nothing has changed and if people are displaced due to natural disasters their job is to coordinate the rebuilding of the infrastructure and the first resource should be those who are effected and out of work not lining the pockets of out of state contractor and organizations for a shoddy job that's never done. NTM anyone who has read and understands the 911 report and doesn't cry with shame doesn't understand what they are reading.

10. The department of defense is the biggest waster of tax payer dollars and can be run on the amount of money that they can't account for every year. Further they are supposed to defend our country and not occupy others. Every major war this country has been involved with begins with their failure of performing their task or the "friendly fire" used to get the people to support an invasion or involvement of an existing war.

11. Congress is the biggest joke in any govt of this world. The number of unconstitutional "laws" they enact and the frivolous spending are unbelievable. The number of conflicting "laws" within the USC is downright sickening. Furthermore how many of you out their have a job where you can be absent without a good excuse or when present at your job fail to perform your duties and not get fired? In reality one need not look beyond the Patriot Axe to understand what a bunch of spineless creatures they really are.

12. Soc sec is THE largest fraud against the people of the United States and is single handedly responsible for the majority of the rights that we no longer have. Most evident in the courts throughout America. The increasing number of boomers retiring have nothing to do with the depletion of these funds as soc sec is the fund-all vehicle for congress during the last 40 years including the ever failing "war on drugs". There is too much to explain here. Read title 42 and title 19 of the USC as a starting point and you will see how billions of dollars are dumped into the hands of private corporations everyday.

13. The people are supposed to be self regulated not the govt and not "public" corporations yet all these regulating agencies who are supposed to protect us against fraud and physical harm are the ones who promote it these days and are in turn regulating the people.

It doesn't matter who you elect nothing is going to change until we get beyond "the govt should provide" mentality.

Did you see Bill O'Reilly's interview? He said, "You want to have 50% of my income for taxes!" That IS what those who make over $250,000 feel will happen under Obama's plan. Everything I've read - from tax and economy sites neither Democratic or Republican - says that Obama wants to roll back the changes made under Bush where we all got tax relief (whether people admit to it or not) and then he offers decreases after the increases have been taken. Then with the "rich" he puts a huge tax.

Since when did the US becomie Robin Hood? Why should the "rich" have to pay more (percentage wise - and lots more!) than the middle class? (Poor folks usually don't pay or get back what they do pay.) Who decided that the haves should be responsible for the have-nots?

The Republican plan allows for business growth. Obama's plan would force even more business to leave the country.

I was raised in the upper income bracket my father a Republican wore a three piece suit to work. Most of the people I was raised amoung thought all wefare people (people living off of goverment programs) were lazy and it was their fault they lived that way.
390 dollars a month is what a single person makes on Washington State assistance
a little over 700 a month is what they would make on SS
and since we ( the states and the US Goverment ) have cut them back so deeply, why is it that we are so flipping in debt ?
Of course it has nothing to do with those like the rich Doctor in Texas who gets 1000 thou in goverment aid a year, because he had the money to by all that acreage !

But he gave you a choice. The bible talks about just weights and measures, slothfulness, and placing your faith in other men as well it also has numerous parables that are all viable but not with our existing govt. "General welfare" was the well being of the people and a system within which they could thrive and not a system of robbing from Peter to give to Paul. Our govt spends infinitely more money on the administration of these failed programs than people experience the benefit. The "general welfare" system that you to refer to is unconstitutional and was not an intention of the founders. As for "issues" like stem cell research, genetic engineering, the War on Drugs, gender/race programs, education, mental health etc I don't really care one way or another, provided I have the choice to refrain participating and am not forced to fund these "experiments". Furthermore my rights should be protected from the harms that many of these programs and experiments cause.

America didn't have a welfare program until 1935 after the worst effects of banking fraud was realized beginning the great depression. The bank had loaned more money than they had deposits or "reserves" on hand. Hence the creation of the Federal Reserve. A Non governmental organization of banks for banks which is unconstitutional in every facet even the location at which the "act" was written. The money you save today is worth less tomorrow because our money is based upon nothing. It is merely paper. The paper that it is written on is not even the property of the US govt and is on loan, bearing interest every second it sits in your pocket and worth less in value when you take it out and until we get beyond the hoopla of savior Obama or savior McCain and put our money back on the gold standard nothing will ever change.

We will have a huge deficit someone will have to pay for iincluding those of higher income.

I do not mind higher taxes even for 250k plus and I tall you why.... most people in that income bracket know how to invest in real estate or other investment to save taxes.
The small business should be given a break if the increase will affect its growth.
But I know from experience most people in that bracket will alays know how to find a way to reduce their taxes.
Overall I am for lowering txes to everyone if we use what we collect wisely.

A frugal minded president intent on cutting useless expenditure will improve things.

If I learned anything here, it was that I like Vivian and Shannon even more.
I grew up in a hard-working family. WHY on earth was my father a Republican? I will never understand. He gave tons of money to children and other noble causes. We ate very well, but I never had a new coat until I was in 8th grade. Hand-me-down Ellie, I am.
I care about people.
I would rather raise the entire ship, not just my life raft. I want to retire and lift up all the people who are scraping by. So many are there because by birth, mental illness, injury, dumb luck. Their kids, the next generation that will grow old alongside my children, don't have to be down. But they need to know they can get up. My kids get it. I'm glad.

We're still lucky that we can all discuss these things...preserve our rights.

The "I've-got-mine-so-screw-you attitude" is what drives ALL Americans from the richest to the poorest. It has been driven into the public for so many generations that it cannot be discarded unless something drastic happens that will force people to work together for mutual support.
