So earlier this summer I decided to try my hand at having a flowerpot garden. My plantings, which consisted of 1 green pepper plant, 1 yellow pepper plant, 2 tomato plants and a watermelon plant, failed miserably.
The plants grew and are still growing very well, but aside from 1 green pepper, I got zero product out of these plantings. All of these plants flowered off and on, but never any veggies until now.
After our most recent rains a few days ago, I was surprised to see that the yellow pepper plant had several peppers beginning to form and that one of the tomato plants actually had a few little green mounds trying to grow.
It's a little late in the season. So I don't anticipate getting much if anything from these plantings. Still, I found it kind of amusing to see this happening now.

I suspect that there is something wrong with the pot you are growing them in.
Next year try planting each vegetable plant based upon it's root system. Some plants need deep and narrow, and others wide and shallow. Plus, with the right soil mix you can grow any vegetable in a pot...or just about.
Thanks so much for posting this to
my group
*raises eyebrows* Kevin is a gardening expert, too?
I tried tomatos in containers this year as well. Actually they were these window boxes that the previous owner had on the deck railing here at my house. No luck at all. Not deep enough.
I did however do very well with all of my pepper plants, except green peppers.
At least you got plants, my container gardening nothing grew, I threw the plants & soil away, I gave up after a few weeks.
Conclusion...I don't know jack about growing veggies but I sure am relieved with my plants seem to like what I do for them.
Good luck.
But you're doing something perfect. Your veggies look so healthy. You've encouraged me to do my herb garden. Let us know how they taste.
I was lazy this year and just planted flowers. Which was great, but they took over and grew really tall. I had a jungle, not the cottage look that I was hoping for.
The year before I had great success with snap peas. They really liked my sandy soil.
Keep at it and you will find the right combo.
Better luck next year?
I may not do veggies next year.
The tomatoes in big fat pots do best for me.
The herbs all do well - except a couple have trouble making it through the hot summer, but they usually make a comeback in late fall.
I tried egg plant - a small japanese variety this year and it did exceedingly well -produced all summer long and still is. The egg plants are miniature in size, like those small bananas.
My canataloupe produced about five or six full size fruits - flavor was so so.
The peppers did fairly well - produced about 10 big peppers and 20 little peppers.
Half of the big peppers and some of the tomatoes were eaten by the critters.
Next year I am trying beans and peas and squash and lettuce one more time, I've learned a little along the way - so maybe I'll do better this time. I also want to try spinach and swiss chard.
