In mid-July, Gynn and I attended my school's annual fundraising auction. This is the biggest event of the year for the school's fundraising efforts and it's always a really fun event. Each year the event has a different theme, and costumes are encouraged. Last year it was the Wild West. This year, a particular favorite of mine: Pirates! Arrr!
We both went in costume. I bought this leather vest at a local biker shop. The sword is my old epee from my college days when I did some fencing with the SCA.

Gynn was looking lovely (and dangerous!) with her gypsy skirt and trusty quarterstaff.

The school did an incredible job of decorating th gym to look like the deck of a pirate ship in port.

In the halls were the silent auction items, including one of Gynn's original cartoon drawings that she had donated. We were thrilled that it ended up selling for almost $200.
Among the decor out in the halls was this animatronic pirate skeleton.

And of course, the classic life-sized Johnny Depp cardboard standup.

We made a purchase too: We bought this adorable pirate ship painting that my coworker, Irene Santos painted. It is now hanging in what will be our child's room.

It was nice to help the school raise some money, and we had a great time playing pirates! Arrr!
