Safe Link Wireless - Free Cell Phone Service For Qualified Persons

 Safe Link Wireless is a government supported program that provides a FREE Cell phone and airtime each month for income elgible customers.

 SAFELINK WIRELESS® service is U.S. government supported program for Income eligible households provided by TracFone Wireless, Inc. In order to participate in the SAFELINK WIRELESS® service, persons must meet certain eligibility requirements set by each State where the service is to be provided. These requirements are based on a person's participation in a state or Federal support programs or by meeting the Income Poverty Guidelines as defined by the U.S. Government. SAFELINK WIRELESS® service is limited to one person per household.

How to Qualify

The process to qualify for Lifeline Service depends on the State you live in. In general, you may qualify if...

  1. You already participate in other State or Federal assistance program such as Federal Public Housing Assistance, Food Stamps and Medicaid. OR
  2. Your total household income is at our below 135% of the poverty guidelines set by your State and/or the Federal Government.
  3. No one in your household currently receives Lifeline Service through another phone carrier.
  4. You have a valid United States Postal Address. In order for us to ship you your free phone you must live at a residence that can receive mail from the US Post Office. Sorry, but P.O. Boxes cannot be accepted.

In addition to meeting the guidelines above you will also be required to provide proof of your participation in an assistance program, or proof of your income level.

Safe Link Wireless is currently offering service in parts of Tennessee, with plans to begin offering service soon in the States listed:

Alabama

New Hampshire

Connecticut

 New York

 Delaware

 North Carolina

District of Columbia

Pennsylvania

Georgia

Virginia

Massachusetts

Service requires income verification. You must currently be receiving State/Federal Public Assitance to qualify. You will receive FREE cellular service, a FREE cell phone, and FREE Minutes every month. Oh wow. I would love to see that offered through out the whole USA. I knwo a few people who could use this and would quailfy. But don't live in the state that it is being offered.

I don't know why they don't mention it on the home page, but if you all look on the FAQs page (below), you'll see that residents in Florida also benefit. I live in Fl and I have been approved. :)

It depends on what state you live in, but I'm pretty sure it will be around 68 minutes. You can put your zip code at the bottom of this page and it will tell you in the benefits window.

I just applied for it today and since i get foodstamps I get it. there is no scam its just to help out people who are in need of a phone.

I have been doing some research on the program and the company Tracfone itself for sometime now. From my understanding, it started off in Miami and is expanding across the US. I know Colorado recently became eligible. Depending where you live, you will most likely recieve 68 free minutes per month and you will definitely recieve a new phone. You can always add more minutes if necessary. OF course, this is all pending on whether or not you qualify. The Tracphone service has also recieved positive reviews. I am curious to see how it is recieved by the public. Cheers!

I meet all criteria and should qualify. The program is available in my area, but I'm told that my address is invalid. I've lived in my home for 35 years and this is the only address

You have got to be kidding me. These are not "free phones". Those of us who are hard working taxpayers paid for the phone. No one should be getting them. Cell phones are luxury items. How about not taking advantage of those of us who pay taxes and pay for that phone. Ignorance and greed running amok.

Randy Fair, I sure hope nothing happens to you that causes you to have to be on disability or food stamps!! You know, I understand that some people take advantage of the food stamp program and other government programs but some of us are honest people that worked as long as we could and for some reason ended up having to use programs such as that to get by!!!!Idiots like you need to keep your mouths shut if you dont know what you are talking about!!!!!!!!

OKAY! so i think that if ur giving out free phones, they should be like those wirefly ones for kids, so that people *ahem you know who u r* don't abuse the system. There should only be a certain amt. of numbers they can call, 911, employer, some necesity numbers and such. This is a complete waste of taxpayer money only for poor people to have a phone. How about they should have a legit job for so many months, and as a reward, this be given to them. Oh yah, this idea is great. You know it.

People forget that SafeLink is just an extension of the LifeLine program that was started by the FCC in the 80s. It was originally created to provide basic telephone service to low-income families, and Safelink has just brought it up to date by adding cellular phones to the service.

This is such a great plan, but many people are against it because they are concerned that it may be a "government sponsored OBAMA PLAN". BUt contrary to popular belief, the program is NOT an Obama plan as it started way before Obama was even elected. Randy Fair, relax this is not coming out of your so called tax paying money. Your tax paying money is being used to pay for the wars. This service is being funded by cellular providers in the USA. They are not paid for by taxpayers or the federal government. TracFon Wireless pays for the phones and also the cost of promoting its SafeLink program. This is an excellent program for seniors and family's that are on limited or low income.
