A false flag? She APPOINTED THE POLICE CHIEF. As mayor, she was responsible for the budget and as would have known women were being charged for rape kits. In a town of 5,000 people, how many rapes happened in one year that the department was spending $14,000? Is this what she means by saving money? Charging rape victims to gather evidence against their rapists? Come on! How many walls are people going to throw up to protect her?

BTW, Carla was the first I believe to rush out and spread this bunch of misleading mindless crap without bothering to get the whole story. Kathy--the whole story is in the link. This is not a complicated story. Please, provide some evidence that this is somehow false.

Lera--The exact quote from Fannon is "In the past weve charged the cost of exams to the victims insurance company when possible. I just dont want to see any more burden put on the taxpayer, Fannon said." He only moved to try to get the rapists to pay for it AFTER the state passed a bill forbidding the practice.

Actually, the data for the years Palin was mayor is missing from the report you cited. Palin was mayor from 1996-2002. The report you cite does not show ANY data from the Wadilla police department for 1996-1999.

Also, the numbers do not compute.
As per Fannon, the department spend $14,000 a year on rape kits.
Rape kits cost $500-$1200 each.
If there were only 5 rapes in that time period...how did they spend $14,000 a year?
This is a simple math question.

A few years ago, there was a major blow up in Philly when it was discovered that the police department was deliberately reclassifying rapes as "domestic disputes" in order to hide the number of sexual assaults in the city. I'm wondering now if Wasilla was reporting those rapes to the government as aggravated assaults instead, or not reporting them at all.

You know, it is surprising that with the millions of dollars Wasilla received from the federal government they somehow couldn't afford the kits. I suppose some of Ms. Palin's "actual responsibilities" included prioritizing the hockey rink over the needs of rape victims.

Well it didn't last to long and they were made to supply the kits again.

Palin probably wanted to use the money to put a private moose hunting preserve in after she got her bridge to nowhere.

1. I've seen nothing to indicate this in any link. But I would be interested to see a link reporting such (from a news article, not a blog)
2. As McCain supports so do love to point out, Obama didn't run anything in Illinois. He only passed laws. He didn't have anything to do with enforcing them. Ergo, if it was brought to his attention, his roll would be to legislate about it. It would fall on the mayor to make sure it wasn't happening in the first place.
