Hello fellow Gatherers,
Perhaps somebody can enlighten me with something. I was just sending off an invitation to one of the groups I own, and typed out a short message in the box to go along with it... as I always do, and have for over 2 and a half years.
Then it hit me.... in all the invites I have ever received over that same time, not one came with a message? I must have received thousands by now, LOL... but no messages to go with; just boxes to check. Is it just me, or what?
So, does anybody else out there ever get a message with a group invite? Am I wasting my time typing out my "words of wit" that nobody can ever read? Has some function on Gather long ago been cancelled or something in all the revisions done?
Hmmmm... I hope I'm not having a senior moment, ha ha.

For some strange reason Gather chose not to display the message on the group invitation page. Instead, it is included in the email notification you elect to receive when you are invited to join a group. However, even that notification isn't designed very well.
This means that my own messages have been thrown to waste!
What a bummer... I bet most people don't read the email on invites???? Probably typing away for nothing.
I wish they would change it back to be like the freind invites.

Looking at the page, though, it's obvious that displaying messages would clutter up the arrangement. However, what would be wrong with a little icon to click on that would open up a comment box, so that we could choose to read individual messages we're interested in?
This might make a good suggestion to submit to Building a Better Gather.

Marilyn N- I've gotten some group invites since this was written, and some other people do write a message you can see with your outside email. Many didn't bother though. For now I will keep writing them in case anyway, even if most don't read them.....?
Marilyn S- I don't know how many check for messages with outside mail, so I don't know either. I never did before myself until this came up. I'm still going to post a note in case I guess, but wish it was in the Gather internal invite as well. Oh well, thanks for stopping by, take care.
