Tonight, grab a cup of coffee and join us for another live chat in our Coffee Break Moments Hour, tonight at 9PM ET. Tonight we want to know:

Who is your favorite fictional character from a book?

What stands out about this person? Is he or she someone you might befriend in real life? Is this person like you? The live chat will take place between 9-11PM ET. Five members who participate during the chat will be drawn to receive a COFFEE-MATE coupon. Three additional members will be drawn to receive a COFFEE-MATE coupon and 250 Gather Points each!

Can't make the chat? We still want to hear about your favorite reads for your summer vacation. Your book suggestions might end up on someone else's "must read" list!

Tip: You'll need to continually REFRESH your browser to see new comments appear during the live chat.

sounds like fun! Almost like going to a costume party! Hey, now that's an idea: A costume chat! Where everyone chats as their favorite character--real or fictional!!

This sounds wonderful but a little too late for me. I'll have to check in tomorrow and read all the comments. I'm always looking for something new to read.
My favorite character in a book is Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware. Alex Delaware is a retired child psychologist who solves mysteries, often with the help of his best friend Milo Sturgis, an LAPD detective. All of Jonathan Kellerman mystery books are page turners and keep you guessing.

I'm hanging around for some coffee, Shannon:)
One of my absolute favorite women characters was Scarlett O'Hara.
Strong, obstinent, domineering, good hearted in spite of herself, self-absorbed on occasion, slow to accept that love is not what you think it is when you are eighteen and a spoiled Daddy's girl.
I loved that she always gave it her all. She loved to party and convention be damned.

A woman after my own heart - she used what she had to her own advantage, and went for everything she thought she wanted.
A lover and a fighter and an all around feisty, real woman. I loved her strength and her faults - both made her an amazing character.

I find ythat some of the most influential and interesting people in the world are fictional. Sherlock Holmes, Huck Finn, Anna Karenina, and Superman, just to name a few. They may not have walked the earth (or, in Superman’s case, flown), but they certainly stride through our lives. My all time favorite though is Arjuna.

This is why I love Arjuna. HE is the Hero of the Mahabharata, the national epic of India, this master archer conquered in the realms of love, war, and the spirit. Desired by many women, he won his most remarkable wife, Draupadi, in an archery contest (but by a fortuitous turn of events, he had to share her with his four brothers!).

Fanny Hackabout Jones from Erica Jong's "Fanny". The book is an historical fiction, set in the late 18th century and told from the point of view of a very liberated woman. She is strong and smart and bold and keeps her head and sense of humor all through the story.

Melissa, Shannon is my sister ... just taking a jab at her any chance I get. She's a FEW years older than me so it would have aged her slightly more than me. =)

Well. I guess I'm the only fantasy fiction reader, as usual.

Dexter Morgan from the 3 Dexter books by Jeff Lindsay. This is the character the Showtime series is based on, but read the books because the stories are different. Dexter is so darned likable even though he is a serial killer. But he does kill only to make things correct in the world. For all I know, I'm working with him!

I get tired of Roarke sometimes though. He does the same things in every book. As do the rest of the characters. Although I've still read them all.

Sweet Valley High? Hmmm ... I don't remember those.

Who was the detective in the young adult books? I can't remember now and it's right at the tip of my tongue!
