I'm not a gerbil or a hamster
But I feel like one some days
When I'm running on my treadmill
Going every which aways
I don't know what gets me started
But it goes faster as the day goes by
And before I know it, the day has gone
Time on the treadmill seems to fly
There are so many busy things to do
And I thought that those days were gone
But it seems to be getting more hectic
As time pushes me along
Like the current in a stream
picks up after a storm
My life sometimes feels like that
I get very tired and worn
There is always something new to do
Somewhere else to go
Telephone ringing off the hook
Hoping it's someone that I know
And with all the busyness going on
At times I want to flee
For I feel like leaves fluttering
on branches of a windblown tree
Running on the treadmill
has become a way of life
I'm not just some little old lady
And I'm not somebody's wife
I'm me, a person newly born
Out there for everyone to see
Running on life's treadmill
Until finally I am free

When a person is not so tired, a person can feel OK about all this 'busy'ness.

And I'm going to bed.
But it's a grand new day today, so...
you've captured all the frustration in this well-paced poem,champ..:)
Ms. E:
Yes, you've started The Treadmill Club. I was thinking these same thoughts all week, trying to stay focused, trying to "get 'er done. And what will it matter if I do or don't?
In the big scheme of things, what matters? I guess it is time for me to read Erma B's last poem again. It always straightens me out. And, I'll start singing the new Adam's Family song again...
Do what you want to do...
Go where you want to go...
We love you, Ms. E. Just as you are, you're precious.

It does seem that the older we get the busier we get. Or is it just that it takes us a little longer than it used to to do the same amount??
