With the prices of food still raising every day, it can be difficult to have enough money for the fun foods. You know the kind that makes winter bearable. I make my own hot chocolate mix and everyone just loves it. It is cheaper than the commercial mix and it is yummy. It is great on those cold evenings when you want something hot to warm you up. Great for when you have company too. It also makes a great gift. Take a jar of this homemade mix and add it with some homemade cookie mix. Tuck it in a basket with a nice ribbon and you have a welcome gift for anyone.
I have had requests for this every Christmas. Everyone loves it. Victoria is probably mad at me because I did not make her any this year. I intended to but things happened. You know how it goes?
In winter, I love to sit in my rocker, by the fire, drinking a nice hot mug of hot chocolate and reading a good book. Come on in and I will make you a mug. We can chat a bit. Yes, I make my own Hot Chocolate Mix. Here is the Recipe that I use. You will love it as much as our family does. Enjoy. Come back and chat again.
Oh Yeah, You will have to drink it from a Marshall University mug if you drink with me or a West Virginia University mug if my hubby is here. :)
Hot Chocolate Mix
3 cups of powdered milk
1/2 cup cocoa
3/4 cup sugar
Dash of salt
Sift and mix well the ingredients in a large bowl.I use my kitchen-aid stand mixer to mix mine up. Pack the mix into an airtight container.
Don't forget to attach this to the jar.
Hot Chocolate
Serves 1
4 Tablespoons Hot Chocolate Mix
8 ounces boiling water
Marshmallows or whipped cream
Place the hot chocolate into a mug. Pour in the boiling water. Stir until Chocolate Mix is dissolved. Garnish with Marshmallows or whipped Cream.
I like to add a candy can to the jar or cup to use as a stir-er. It adds a peppermint taste to the Hot Chocolate

One thing I -love- doing, is adding caramel flavored liquid creamer to my hot cocoa. Mmm... I'm not a coffee drinker, but I love cocoa!
When my son was little I'd buy marshmallows for him (and dad). Personally I only like them toasted, and we figured out you can toast them on a gas stove:)
Thanks Connie!
