Gov. Sarah Palin's church to pray away gays.

Gov. Sarah Palin's church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.

"You'll be encouraged by the power of God's love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality," according to the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has prayed for about six years.

I wish that we could pray away this faith-based hate and insanity. Actually, I just wish that they would get the respect that they deserve, meaning almost none. Instead, the American people just seem to love this archaic cruelty.

The more this election goes on, the more I am becoming disgusted by mainstream American culture.

Not to nit-pick, but wouldn't it be better to convert all gays to Republicans, first, so we could get Palin as a VP, and then work at eliminating the whole "guy-on-guy" action?

I consider myself a Christian, Peter, but I think people making these statements give Christians a really bad name. The God I serve loves every single person the same. He created you to be the person you are, and no amount of praying can change that any more than it could turn me into a lesbian. It's such a fundamentalist notion and it actually violates the basis of Christianity, "to love one another." I feel really icky, for lack of a better word, when I hear stuff like this.....and to think she could be the VP......it simply can't happen.

Christians are called to be sure that they have joined with God to remove the log from their own eye first. A speck, through such an obstruction, must seem like a big thing. A speck, through the eyes of Christ, may prove to be something other than what our expectations interpret.

Utter nonsense and if you ever have to wonder why it specifically says in the Constitution that there should be a seperation of Church and State then this is why. Uggh I am disgusted. People need to get a life. I don't care how "nice" it is that they are praying for someone. Here's an idea. Lets pray for something we actually need like lower gas prices and affordable groceries.

I still fail to understand what is wrong with people praying. Praying is bad now? When did praying for someone become wrong? There's nothing in the article that says they are praying in school, or anyplace one is not "supposed" to pray. A person can't even pray without someone getting their shorts all bunched up? Why would prayer make people disgusted?

I just don't get it.

I am not gay but I am a Christian and these pray away the gays programs get my shorts in a bunch too. You say you don't get it so I will attempt to explain. If I am wrong I hope Peter or Sharon will correct me, but I think that they are very insulted by the notion that just being who they are is an affront to God. The premise of these prayers is essentially "I am acceptable to you God so make these gay people just like me". If you want to pray for gays then pray that those in Iraq or Afghanistan return safely, pray that they don't lose jobs, pray that they have enough to eat, pray for their health,etc. just as you would pray for your heterosexual neighbors.

I have to say that I am a lesbian but I am also Christian. Praying for people is not the point. Praying for them to be converted to a heterosexual life is what people are so upset over. I prayed for years that I wasn't gay, and then one day I woke up and realized that God loved me for who I am in my heart, regardless of what Church said what. I encourage all Christians to pray, but prayer for someone to change their nature is essentially wrong. Long live the Constitution that protects us from a national religion! Can you imagine if the Republicans got in to the White House and made it illegal to be anything other than a heterosexual-believing religious right?
