Why are the Repubicans Shielding Palin from the Press?

September 08, 2008 10:40 AM EDT (Updated: September 08, 2008 10:41 AM EDT)

The media has been given no access to Sarah Palin. Requests for interviews were denied exept for FOX, which is more like a scripted propaganda appearance. Now I hear that it was finally agreed to have Palin do one interview with Charles Gibson of ABC. Whether that is true or not, I don't know.

I guess they figured that Charlie would be easy on her. But, it is disturbing that they are shielding her like this. The question needs to be asked--why?

Is it because she's a loose cannon and will say things they don't want said? Is it because there are so many unanswered questions and controversies swirling around about her past and the ethical misconduct charges against her? Or is it that they just don't think that she has the ability to hold her own against a really tough journalist asking tough questions about foreign policy? Maybe it's all three. But how in the world, if McCain gets elected, will she be able to go head-to-head with the likes of Vladimir Putin?

The public deserves to hear from Sarah Palin outside of her scripted and rehearsed campaign speeches and photo ops. So far, we've been presented with only what the Republicans and John McCain want us to see and hear. What are they afraid of?

Carla, I know I said that I don't like to add personal comments to political posts, but there seems to be so much 'weirdness' surrounding this. Its all so odd, and shrouded it seems. I would like to know why too!

There are three reasons:

1) She's not ready. They are prepping her on all the things that she has no clue about, which is pretty much everything not related to Alaska (despite it being close to Russia).

2) They want everyone to have such a low expectation that anything above a complete meltdown will be taken as doing "a great job." [Similar to McCain's speech]

3) This allows them to do two things: a) harp on the media for treating her unfairly (like by asking her questions on things she should know, like her record in Alaska), and b) prep the media so they don't ask her anything that can be turned into "sexism" (like asking her any questions).

Or is it that they just don't think that she has the ability to hold her own against a really tough journalist asking tough questions about foreign policy?

Bush Aides Schooling Palin In Foreign Policy
The McCain team has hastily assembled a team of former Bush White House aides to tutor the vice-presidential candidate.

Palin is going to be questioned by ABC soon I forget what day but I am sure it will be advertised heavily. Palin is going to get eaten alive by the media, they stand to make a fortune bringing out her past political history, the only thing I wish about it is that they would leave her family out of it. Obama already said Palin's family is out of the campaign and that's the way it should be.

Hey I found a funny video as edited by the author yet, upon closer inspection does in fact reveal something most people might not have noticed.

McCain Can't Stop Staring at Sarah Palin's Boobs

He's actually not looking at her boobs but, reading the written speech, making sure she stayed on script !

Charlie's hands will be tied, it will not be a real 'interview'.

The 'interview' will take place over several days and she will have the opportunity to 're-do' her mistakes. In addition, Charlie will not be able to get tough with her in fear that she will walk out and not return.

I like Charlie Gibson, but his hands will be tied, making this yet another 'fluff' piece.

Nice job by Karl Rove et. al. in protecting and shielding their charge.

What that moron said today about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is a perfect example of why they're hiding her from the press. She's utterly clueless, and every time she opens her mouth, she's going to prove it.

Wow... the B.S. never stops from the left loons. She will be on ABC to start and much more to follow. She's only been the VP selection for two weeks, so obviously she needs to get up to speed on all of McCain's positions, as well, she needs crash course work on foreign affairs.

What you dims don't get is that we like her for who she is and her judgement -- and trust that she will come up to speed very quickly. Sort of like that famous community organizer, Obama ;)

Obama simply does not have enough experience to be President. In fact, Palin has more executive experience and better judgement -- but she's not running for President -- she's the VP.

Very reasonable questions, Carla, and must be answered since she could so easily hold the world's most powerful chair.

Looking at a few of the comments above, I can't help but erroneously think that one ought perhaps be given a fifth grade level civics test prior to exercising his or her right to vote.

Hopefully, they'll give her an earpiece hooked up to Karl Rove so that he can provide her the answers. And Charlie better watch it if she takes him moose hunting with her!

She's a joke...the entire Republican presidential campaign has been one big joke.....a very bad joke on our country. McCain/Palin have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Republicans do not care about competent, intelligent, experienced leadership. They just want props - silly spokespeople who have no personal strength and will do anything the people behind the scenes tell them to do. Empty puppets. That's how much they have degraded our government.

"the entire Republican presidential campaign has been one big joke"

We'll get the last laugh and all you dipshit moonbats will be scratching your heads wondering what went wrong. What you libs fail to see is that your nominee doesn't pass the experience test. Sarah has more experience and she's only running as VP, and I am confident she is going to be a great VP and perhaps President one day. Remember, Obama had that national spotlight in the 2004 election, so he had a lot of time to hone his speeches, but as smooth as he sounds, he will never have the right morals and judgement needed by an American President. Sarah cleary does, and the polls are reflecting that belief as Obama is going down fast while McCain has taken the lead. Just the facts, moonbats.

Don, you reflect what many in America have been led into a delusion with the myth of *conservative values.*

In the past several decades, far more people violently lose their lives under a Republican president, so what does *Right to Life* mean? Suspension of Disbelief

In the past 70 years, Republican administrations statistically have increased the national debt far more than Democratic ones. So what does *fiscal responsibility* mean? Suspension of Disbelief

The Republican rhetoric right now is desperate to continue maintaining that Suspension of Disbelief within their long fantasy tale, since the fiction in their book is finally becoming known.

What an idiot. It's McBush's experience that has sent our nation into the toilet, and convinced over 80% of the population that we're heading into the wrong direction. If this is truly the only test of a candidate, I'll gladly vote for the candidate with less experience that can lead us down the right path, rather than the more experienced candidate that will continue to lead us down the wrong path.

It's pretty simple. Having Sarah with McCain boosts McCain stock and takes the spotlight of of him and his poor policies. He's hiding behind a skirt.

Second, if she has to face reporters alone, she may make a mistake and blow her cover. Notice she is going bacl to Alaska for a few days. Again she is hiding and the campaign wants her to hide, instead of facing the press.

The people, the press and anyone else should put out a full court press and get her out in the open and ask her the tough questions that she and the McCain campaign has been ducking these last couple of weeks.

The people should have a chance to see Sarah Palin interviewed and asked questions to see if she can properly respond to them. Republicans or Dermocrat should not be the question, it should be who we believe and hope will had the ability to be able to turn our country around. The debates are coming and hopefully we will see all the candidates and make an accessment of them all. We have a Republican, and a former Governor in there now and when he speaks unscripted, I don't know what he's talking about and he dosen't know either and I don't think he really cares.

Don:

Do you believe George Bush has been a good president?
I worked for Sen. McCain in 2000. I was bitterly disappointed by what happened here in SC (Bushies accused Sen. McCain of having an out of wedlock black baby, accused Cindy McCain of being mentally ill, etc., for those of you that might not recall). I think that Bush/Cheney/Wolfowitz/Rumsfeld/Gonzalez/Craig/Foley/Cunningham et al have done terrible damage to the Republican party. Now Sen McCain has thrown away that maverick personality that I admired s much and eaten a lot of crow to get teh Republican nomination. Taking Gov Palin was the last straw for me. She's woefully unprepared. All bombast, rhetoric aside, she's not ready. I'll either not vote or vote Obama. Not sure yet but I'm sick at the choices that a man I once admired so much has made.

Is this election about the press and the media getting what they want? Don't forget, people, Barrack H. Obama has been shielded by the media for the past 18 months. If any tough questons are raised, they are either ignored or brushed off as "racism" by his handlers.

He seems to have been led to believe that there would never be much of a challenge in this elelction. The press dutifully did his dirty work for him on Hillary and even though she is enormously more experienced and qualified, she was unceremoniously ditched.

Looks like the Obama media cabal is in a huge dither about Sarah Palin because they thought they already eliminated any pesky women trying to challenge their man's ascension. And now this one won't play their game or even pay much attention to them!

And as far as qualifications, McCain is more qualified and exerienced than Obama and Biden put together, so if they want to compare a presidential candidate to a vice presidential, let them. It just makes them look ridiculous. Obviously the media doesn't think either Biden or Obama can measure up to even the newcomer Sarah Palin much less McCain, or they wouldn't be wasting so much time and money trying to trash her.

But something didn't go according to plan, inspite of all the money, scheming, plotting and plan

There is a section called Wish List where I state:
earn millions so I can do whatever the hell I want. It's not about material things, it's about not being someone elses slave. If you HAVE to go to work, you're a slave.

I stand by that. Life is too short to not own your time and do as you wish.

If you did read my profile you would also see that I am at the same job for going on 9 years and I've never been fired or laid off. I count myself as one that does the hard work that moves this country forward.

So, you see the Republicans shielding her from the press. Hum...some shield, from all the
allegations I've seen in the media, blatantly off base. Why has the media been shielding
Barak Obama from answering to his record? Maybe we should wait and see if a little
"scheme" of Obama and Ayers' comes to light. Could it be filed under community organ-
ization? A little note-he's not a millionaire due to book sales. Another point to ponder,
who sent Obama campaign officials to Alaska to visit the office that is investigating
Trooper-gate? Could there be an obstruction of justice charge coming? I personally
could never vote for anyone who claims a communist left the greatest positive impact on his
life. Just check his memoir, he put it in there himself, although he failed to mention
that Davis is the head of the American Communist party. Funny how those details seem
to slip by most people. Hence, his Marxist views (watch O'Reilly's interview).

"I will be happy to listen to your views, but bashing other people is not the way"

Why don't you lecture Clark or the many other liberals who bash constantly. I'd love to hear the logic.

Let me pull a few quotes from this post:

- Hopefully, they'll give her an earpiece hooked up to Karl Rove....

- She's a joke...the entire Republican presidential campaign has been one big joke...

- Actually people I have gotten used to having a "C" student run the country

- McCain Can't Stop Staring at Sarah Palin's Boobs

- What that moron said today about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is a perfect example

- What an idiot. It's McBush's experience that has sent our nation into the toilet

So tell me, Sarah.... why are you blind to that sort of rhetoric?

Palin is not being shielded from the press, she has become a crowd catcher for McCain, and he isn't ready to let go yet. Face it, if they split up she will be talking to crowds twice as large as he will be. Although, I do agree she does need to be allowed to do her own town hall meeting.

This thread has been hilarious.... Hey Don, this started out as a liberal Tea party to bash Sarah and I think you upset the get-together by ordering coffee! ;0)

Why is the media and Dems soooo afraid of Sarah?? So far she has out-shown Obama and Biden and they're running scared like chickens with their heads cut off. hmmmm

GOooooooo SARAH, GO! lol

There was a comment made regarding Sarah Palin that I found very disturbing, and it seems the press has not picked up on it. Ms. Palin has expressed an opinion that so-called Creation Science be taught in school. Despite the fact that she acknowledges the presence of oil under her state, apparently she believes that God put it there, both for our benefit, and to test our faith.

I am not comfortable criticizing anyone's spiritual beliefs, but when that belief both flies in the face of widely accepted scientific fact, and is being considered as part of her personal vision of America, I have to take pause, and put forth the question "Is Sarah Palin delusional?" It occurs to me that an individual who ignores widely accepted scientific fact may well be suffering from some sort of mental illness.

Another symptom of her mental illness is her stance on birth control, to wit, her view that abstinence is the only acceptable form of birth control. Abstinence does not work. Human beings are human beings, and behave as their impulses dictate. Good heavens, the current state of her family bears this out, and she chooses to ignore the facts.

If this were simply the wack job next door, one could shrug, and leave her to wallow in her delusions. However, this individual will potentially one heartbeat away from the most powerful position on this planet. It scares the HELL out of me to think about what might happen when a delusional and possibly mentally ill individual has the power to unleash Armageddon.

I was a strong supporter of John McCain until he chose this nut job to be his veep. Her only purpose is to appeal to the ultra right wing fundamentalist quasi-Fascist wing of the party, without who's support, he stands no chance of winning. The powers of the Vice President are limited, and once elected, she can be marginalized. I hope that this is his intent. Even if it is, I am still unwilling to gamble on the fact that he will survive his term in office. A Sarah Palin presidency would make the Dubya debacle look like a Sunday school picnic.

This thread is the biggest bunch of moaning and groaning by liberals who anyone with half a brain no that Barack Obama has not had any scrutiny. The press has done his war dance for him. He cannot give a talk without it being written by some speech writer and then he uses the teleprompter. Sarah Palin is authenic, she speaks from the heart, honest truthful. She is breathe of fresh air. Obama and Biden are stale and boring, they are scripted by their mentors. This whole thread is a fraud produced by Obamamaniacs.

Palin's campaign rhetoric is simple. 1. Tell a folksy story. 2. Lie about her accomplishments. 3. Bash Democrats. 4. Tout McCain as a POW. 5. Repeat.

This is the big leagues. The Moosechurian candidate doesn't know enough to be left alone, and the Cryptkeeper is still trying to find the Iraq/Afghanistan border. Their handlers know better than to let her talk to the media.

Palin is sizzle with no substance or substantial experience for that matter. Mayors in my home state with the population of Wasilla work only part-time as mayor. They run grocery stores and have other full-time jobs. Also, a governor for a state the size of Alaska (pop. the same as Austin, Tx) really don't have much to contend with except a bridge to nowhere, shooting carribou from planes, ice fishing and maybe a sled race or two. Yawn.

Come on, this was a desperate and spite choice by McCain. He wanted Lieberman and couldn't have him because of the right-wingers. He took Palin either to placate the conservatives or to spite them. Either way, if they win, we as a country lose. At least Alaska will be better off.

Don;

Anybody could build a sports complex and leave a town of 6000 $20 million in debt.

I bet even the Cryptkeeper could do that, as long as he was using his wife's money.

The ticket I'm voting for doesn't seem to have the luxury of not talking to the press and that's for the understanding of common sense, whereas Republican's have some "Get Out of Common Sense Free" Card and can hide because their candidate has to be trained on how to talk to the press and foreign policy talking points. The excitement is about the Saga of Sarah Palin and if she can just spit out the talking points because the Republicans have resorted to using HOPE as a strategy while at the same time condemning HOPE as a strategy.

So now there is this anticipation building and I'm afraid Rove's got something diabolical planned that will try to exalt Sarah Palin for doing something as simple as not screwing up, meanwhile there's another week of distracting the public from the issues. They are going to ride the whole Lipstick on a pig thing for as long as they can until they can find something else to pretend to be offended about. This Republican campaign has been nothing but dishonest and disingenuous and it's really starting to piss me off that they would do this to trick their own people to vote against their own TAX SAVINGS so that the rich can continue to get more tax cuts. This kind of bull should be ILLEGAL in a TRUE DEMOCRACY. Lying like they have been in a Presidential election should be considered TREASON. We're so used to it. I don't care if the lobbyists have to do whatever they can do to make sure their boards can please shareholders by increasing profits each year, but it is a crime against Democracy to push foul lies in a campaign season.

However, the meaning of the lipstick-on-a-pig phrase might not be as accurate as we think, because I think if someone put lipstick on a pig like Don H, it would make him more endurable. It would justify his existence so we could all laugh at the dancing "talking points monkey" showing us his red ass and throwing feces.

"OK God, I get it now."

I'm always very skeptical when liberals start spouting off numbers. This debt issue comes down to a long term bond that was issued for ~$20 million to build a sports complex. This was voted on and approved by the PEOPLE of the city of Wasilla. In the same vote, they approved a sales tax hike to bring it up to a whopping 2.5% to repay the loan over a number of years.

Any questions? You moonbats have been trying to dig up dirt on this lady and you are just digging a hole deeper and deeper. Really, it's very entertaining.

Yes, of course, freako. But, a PTA mom does. You betcha. You go on and run on with that, batshit.

Clark, could you at least get the name calling right? You're the moon bats and we're the wing nuts.

And she happens to be more than a PTA mom (btw, thanks for belittling PTA moms). She rose from PTA mom to the governor of the largest state of the union.

Maybe Roseanne wasn't a hockey mom. You know, I was a hockey mom, my daughter played on the same team as Howard Dean's daughter in Burlington. Lipstick wasn't a requirement for hockey moms. Vermont isn't as far north as Alaska though, the moms there might need the moisturizing kind of lipstick to keep their lips from chapping. Also, I thought pit bulls had paws, not hooves.

Did you hear how many times Charles Gibson had to ask her what she thought about the Bush Doctrine? She tried to answer the question twice before he had to EXPLAIN to her what the Bush Doctrine was! Then he asked her if it is ok to go into Pakistan when pursuing terrorists and she couldn't answer, she kept running around the talking points they drilled her on and Gibson kept having to ask her the same question until they had to go to commercial!

Karl Rove's certainly going to have to bump the melodrama up a notch in order to make up for this. Now I am curious to see the next phase of THE SARAH PALIN SAGA. The poo-flinging is getting really old, really fast, but I heard Barack Obama talked about a "responsible withdrawal" from Iraq which to the McCain Campaign MUST imply that Bristol's boyfriend didn't know how to pull out. I've been watching Palin's interviews and am still a fan. The woman impresses me like a young Lincoln, getting places politically because of her intelligence, common sense and love of this country and its people.

Critics don't seem to get that human beings and political perfection never completely match, no matter how one tries. People grow, people learn, they change their minds. What was true yesterday isn't necessarily true today.
