This recipe is very close to the homemade white bread my mom used to make. I made my version a little simpler by cutting the recipe in half, starting the dough in the bread machine and I used olive oil in place of the shortening. I also cut down the length and number of rises, with no ill effects.
This bread was absolutely fabulous! Very moist with a tender crust.
Next time I might try a dried tomato, Asiago and fresh herb loaf.
