I am a registered Independent. I have voted for a Democrat in every National election I can remember. I do not like George Bush. I was a supporter of Hillary Clinton in the primaries. I think she would have made a damn good President. I knew she'd likely never get the nomination because she comes with a lot of baggage....some earned...some not. I share this because I don"t want anyone to just disregard my words based on a perception that is false. I am no conservative wingnut. This election cycle had deeply disturbed me.
I have never been an Obama fan. I find him to be a lot of style litle substance. I do think he is an elitist. This perception goes back to the infamous quote about guns and religion. I live in one of those areas and my thought was... he just doesn't get it. People here are relgious and many of them do own guns. Most of that predates any economic hardship. It is simply a way of life. It isn't about bitterness but a love for the outdoors, for the simplicity of life, a connection with the past, a love of god and family. There is nothing wrong with those values. It's funny because I am not religious and I have never shot or owned a weapon but I can see that someone might enjoy those things and I don't hold that against them.
I wasn't happy with the way Hillary was treated this election cycle. I felt the media was quite biased and without question sexist. There were things said about her that appalled me. When Obama won the nomination I wasn't too thrilled but I thought well...it is what it is. I have some issues with McCain and I wasn't likely to support him.I wasn't thrilled with Obama's pick of Biden. I wasn't expecting Hillary but Joe Biden? I don't get it. The fact that Hillary wasn't even on the short list is telling to me...
Then we hear that Palin is the McCain pick...welll who is she...? Then I read a little and I quite frankly could not believe the things being said... all I can say repeating myself..
Sexism is alive and well. We questioned her motherhood her parenting her ambition. We questioned her choice to be a working mother. Since when did feminism not support that? Personally I think it would be beneficial to women to have someone in an executive position who understood those demands. Because most women work. Most kids are raised in 2 income houses. It is simply the reality of life. Isn't feminism about choices and supporting those choices. When did this change? And yes I know she is prolife. That may be the reason I don't vote McCain but it won't be because of the garbage being spewed. Take the high road people. I thought the Democrats were better than that. Talk about her ideas, positions. Hold her accountable for her political choices.

One of her political choices is women's rights that she is against.
I do not care about how she is with her family its not an election issue for me and I have already posted several times to stop bashing Palin's family.
Palin is a neocon and all you could expect from her is more Bush.
People talk about Obama like he is evil and it comes from the republican party after their leader McCain said he would not run a dirty campaign. Its also the media that keeps harping on the family issue and if people wised up they would take the media with a grain of salt that's all the media is worth.
Obama told the democrat party Palin's family is off limits in his campaign so how do you get that he is shallow? Did she give him the same courtesy? No she slammed him from the first word out of her mouth.
If you take a little time to look at some of the posts at Gather you will see the legislation he has pushed forward and how he has voted in the senate and I would not call his record shallow.
