But he is working hard to convince me otherwise. The nomination of Sarah Palin is only the latest, most egregious, example. She is a rabid social conservative who agrees with pre election McCain (the McCain that we knew before he began running for president) on absolutely nothing. She was chosen for the sole purpose of appeasing the right wing base.

It's less than two months to Election Day! How can Sarah Palin be ready to be Vice President if she isn't even ready to give an interview or a press conference?
Whatever you think about John McCain, the fact is that he is elderly, and statistics indicate it's likely he would not survive his first term in office.
Do you really think that Sarah Palin is prepared to be President?
John McCain is, through and through, a true elitist war monger!
All of that doesn't even compare to putting the holy roller liar on that ticket.
Even with Rove writing McCain and Palin speeches McCain still looks bad.
If Obama continues to be militant, and not moderate, he will only have himself to blame.
IS THIS WHAT WE NEED AS PRESIDENT?
Republicans have sought to cast Obama's support as nothing more than shallow adoration and hype befitting a movie star. I guess for John McCain if you can't beat em, join em.
McCain-Palin is becoming Palin-McCain, which is odd since she was virtually unknown to the nation just a week ago.
My vote is for real change so that has to be Obama.
Both Obama and McCain are using there VP as designer gowns, as if it were a fashion show rather than a Presidential Election. And you Libs are so arrogant and afraid of her, that you cannot even see the insain humor from both sides.
Really, Dan, maybe McCain is with Sarah Palin, but some how I doubt Biden knows much about fashion.
The Vice president of the U.S.A. is important, since their job will change if the president is for any reason unable to fulfill the role.
McCain is using Palin more like a miniskirt.
In my opinion, McCain selected her because of who she is a person. She took on a lot of big wigs and companies up there in Alaska, including within her own Party; she has "gumption" if you will. There's more to it than just that, but she is along his lines in thinking, the way he believes an elected official of government should serve.
Ideals aside, and time will tell here soon, I find it all somehow refreshing. I look forward now to debates and interviews etc., and hope she does well. She has only been selected for a about a week or so, and all her efforts have been concentrated in Alaska; give it a few weeks. I need more info too.
It wasn't that long ago nobody knew who Obama was either...
You might also look beyond the positions that you disagree with her on, and see if you agree with her on some issues. She's good on energy policy, and we don't know much about her foreign policy ideas, other than she's probably a hawk. We may never know her views on all the issues.
We know that she's good on OIL policy, which is different than being good on energy policy. She's spouted the standard McCain line, but that's hardly an indication of anything but an ability to parrot phrases.
The cause of most of the problems we're having with those afforementioned leaders is simply the failure of the Bush Gang's diplomacy. Smart people learn from object lessons on complex issues: McCain isn't that smart.
Based on what?
With McCain in the White House, we'll be at war with Putin and Ahmedinejad. He's practically guaranteed it with his rhetoric.
