I did my boss a favor by working half his shift because his wife scheduled family photos without his knowledge. Being the good Dad he is, he had to go suffer through them heh.
So I go into work today at 2:00pm. I clock in and my store manager walks up to me and says:
"Heather I have something for you upstairs, if you would like to come get it now."
Usually this means I have a write up paper waiting on me for something I may or may not have done. So in my usually cheeky manner I smile a big grin and say "Only if it's pretty!"
Usually I get a big frowny face for my snark but he started laughing. This is highly odd. Mr. Manager doesn't laugh. I develop the fear and go up stairs.
He hands me an evelope and I eye with suspicion. Is it an evelope of anthrax?
So I ask . . "what's this?" with an eyebrow raise and a glare at the evelope as if it were a giant stinky beetle.
"A gift card!" Mr. Manager replies in a happy voice.
Yeah it's a $300.00 giftcard. Everyone gets one because the Union signed the new contract without hassle. They probably sold us up the river. . . but $300.00 is $300.00 and I'm part time and get screwn anyway by the contract.
I can use said giftcard for instore and fuel purchases. This makes me happy. A lot of happy.
Then I go out to my box. An office girl calls me and says "Hey did you know you have a check up here?" (Up here = office)
"No. No I did not. I get direct deposit."
"Oh well you have one up here for retro pay, they don't put retro pay in as direct deposit."
"Really!?" (Said like a five year old girl finding out she's getting a pony)
"Yeah Really. It's 136.80"
"Are you serious? If you're lying to me I'm going to cry"
"No it's really here. Pick it up when you get off"
So I did in fact have the check. It was a real check, apparently they shorted me some hours somewhere in July and just added them. So it's my money. .. but it's suprise money. I like suprise money. It may not seem a lot to some people on here but I about had a stroke over it. When you're a broke college student, finding a dollar is cause for weeping.
So. . . just by the sheer act of taking an extra shift today, I made almost $500.00. I think this qualfies me as a Gather Money Correspondant now. Gather you may contact me with the details of my appointment at your earliest convenience. :0)

One of my magic money bills. I hardly have real paper money (I like my debit card) so I feel special having the real thing right now LOL. Photo taken with my Panasonic Lumix dmc fz8, about a half hour ago.

sounds great!
I'm glad you have good news to share. There's not enough of it these days.
I think this qualfies me as a Gather Money Correspondant now.
I agree. Could you start with budget meal plans?
I could be a gather Money Correspondant too! Getting free monies just for showing up to work, heh.
make me a correspondant and I'll show the gather community how they can get free money too! (first work for a Union and upon new contract negotionas make sure they get ratified without too much of a hassle, and the Union and the company will be so glad you let them sell you into cheap slave labor that they will give you free giftcards! Hooray!)
Okay ... not almost.
Congrats on the winfall.
Sue* I found 10 bucks in an old purse once and it was like I won the lottery.
Roy I keep thinking about asking my HR buddy what the mystery check was actually for, but decided asking too many questions may make my magic money vanish LOL I'll just enjoy not knowing heh.
I work tonight but I doubt there's chance of free money again heh
Share the joy!!
