It is now less than two months before Election Day, and the John McCain for President campaign has just announced that Sarah Palin is not ready to talk to reporters. She isn't ready to hold any press conferences. Sarah Palin isn't ready to be interviewed.
She isn't ready? It's September! There are just a few short weeks until America votes!
What on Earth was John McCain thinking, picking somebody to be Vice President who isn't even capable of talking to a few journalists. As Vice President, Sarah Palin would have to talk to the leaders of foreign countries, for goodness sakes!
It gets even worse than that, when you consider that, as a man in his seventies, John McCain could very easily die before his first term as President is over.
This would make Sarah Palin Commander In Chief, with the power to launch nuclear weapons - and she isn't even ready to talk with reporters!
This is an insult to American voters. Country First, the Republican National Convention told us. How is nominating someone to be Vice President who isn't even capable of holding a press conference putting country first?!?

Whatever their shortcomings. the media is not going to let this go. They will throw up every unsubstantiated or barely substantiated allegation until she responds.
The Obama campaign needs to remember they are running against McCain and keep the focus there. When asked about Palin, the only right answer is "Why don't you ask her?"
Although that might make todd unhappy.

Astute!!
Not really. Constitutionally, the responsibility of the VP is next to nothing. They act as the tie breaking vote in the Senate, and not much else. Now, Dick Cheney has expanded the powers of the Vice Presidency considerably (some would even suggest unconstitutionally...) but really the VP just needs to be somebody with a pulse for if/when the president keels over.
Kathy said above: "How can you not be ready to talk to reporters and be ready to lead a country of 300 million people?"
Still, Doris Kearns Goodwin said on MTP last week that the VP role is much more than that since Mondale. Cheney certainly has played a greater role than "inquiring daily about the president's health."
Again, Constitutionally, her responsibility is next to 0.
