OBAMA DISPATCHES HIS BEST COVERT OPERATOR TO FLORIDA.........

September 05, 2008 05:20 PM EDT (Updated: September 05, 2008 08:22 PM EDT)

I was reading this New York Tmes article over at:

www.nytimes.com/2008/09/05/us/politics/05dems.html?em

And it says, in perhaps a bad choice of word phrasing, that Barack Obama plans to "increasingly lean on prominent Democratic women" to counteract the amazing and unexpected effect Sarah Palin has had on the election.

It also talks about Obama's plans to implement immediate covert action by "dispatching Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to Florida on Monday and bolstering his plan to deploy female surrogates to battleground states."

Wow, "female surrogates"!! Surrogates for whom?? Clinton or for himself??
Sounds like some kind of a real war, doesn't it??

The article goes on to say that Clinton will be embedded into the Sunshine State to "serve as a counterpoint to the searing attacks and fresh burst of energy that Ms. Palin injected into the race with her convention speech on Wednesday."

Counterpoint?? Don't they really mean "counterattack"?? Call it an over-active imagination if you want to, but, for some reason, I keep picturing Obama wide-eyed with panic and with sweat pouring down his forehead when he gave Hillary her marching papers.

I'm sure it is probably not true, but the image sure gives me something to giggle about it every fifteen minutes or so.

The article I'm referring to further says: "With the McCain-Palin team courting undecided female voters, including some who backed Mrs. Clinton in the Democratic primaries, Obama aides said they were counting on not only Mrs. Clinton but also Democratic female governors to rebut Ms. Palin."

Mr. Obama's actions are very telling and seem to be saying a great deal..... Suddenly, this little, no-name. upstart beauty queen from Wasilla has become a serious force to reckon with. Did I just hear the sound of mocking laughter come to a screeching halt??

I also like where the article talks about what Obama and Biden "need to do to regain the offensive after the Republican convention." Hmm, doesn't someone needing to "regain the offensive" typically mean that they have lost it and are now on the "DE-fensive"??

However, my favorite line of the entire article is this one:

"Advisers to Mr. Obama had predicted that the buzz over Ms. Palin would fade and that the race would quickly turn back into a contest between Senators McCain and Obama..."

Ahh....the best laid plans of mice and mulattos........

There does seem to be some sort of a "scramble" taking place in the Obama camp. Something has gone horribly and unexpectedly wrong. So, I suppose desperate times call for desperate measures, don't they?? And "desperate" is rapidly becoming the specific word I would use to characterize the presidential campaign of Mr. Barack Obama.............

(P.S......The 59th and the 61st comments on this thread will explain the one comment deletion........It was an honest accident.............honest!.................)

Too many people intensely disliked Hillary for Obama to win with her on his ticket.

Palin isn't the best choice for VP. She's nothing more than eye candy. Granted, if I were 20 years younger, I would be doing everything I can to hit on her. But she's not VP material... come to think of it, McBush's not exactly presidential stuff, either.

Interesting article, Berf....

The debates could be critical, or they might just add more confusion to the situation.

Yes, there is a war on Gov. Sarah Palin going on and a war on conservatives. The media is in a bias frenzy. In three days time there were 67 attacks on Palin in one main steam newspaper. Obama's face was on Time magizine seven times compared to three times for McCain. Oprah doesn't want Palin on her show and her staff is divided on it. Although Oprah is denying it now. The cover of US magazine shows the Obamas in an embrace and the title says, "Why he loves her." The story about Palin says something about Babies, Lies and Scandals".

Obama is gathering liberal women to attack Palin so it doesn't look like he is being mean to her so she'll get any sympathy votes. I think that is what is happening.

Kerrell g., = Does the g. stand for "GEE I am horny."
Your comment is just one more example of the "sexism" that is running rampant on Gather.

BERF BUDDY - If I were Hillary, I would not fall for yet another of Candidate Obama's manipulation to win. She was treated horribly. She should demonstrate some integrity and not allow herself be used because she is a woman! She will go any way because she supports her party. This is so typical of Obama- when some one gets contoversial, he cuts them loose, throws them under the bus, and then runs over them (e.g., Rev. Wright).
I hope Floridians can see through the hype.

Great article, Berf. What I continually see is this Bush, not President Bush. But, it is always Mr. Obama. And in the article it was Mrs. Clinton and Ms. Palin. It should be Mrs. Palin - I think she has earned that title. Also, Obama is usually referred to as Mr. Obama or Senator Obama, Clinton is referred to as Mrs. Clinton or Senator Clinton and McCain is even referred to in this article at least as Senator McCain. I do believe that MRS. Palin still holds the title of Governor of her state and as such should be called Governor Palin. After all, they still call Bill Richardson Governor and he hasn't been Governor for a while and neither has Rudy Guiliani.

Did you say that they were sending "Hanna" to Florida? Oh, you said Hillary. LOL!

You are right, counterpoint is just a nicer way of saying counterattack. Just like "community organizer" can also be called the host of a Tupperware party.

Senator Clinton has to be one heck of a woman to even pretend she can support such as Obama. He did nothing but criticize her. But the Lady she is . She is still a Democrate and is doing what is best for her party. I was rooting for her. She was even fair enough that when they ask her if requested to she would accept Obama as VP running mate she said yes. When he was ask the same question about her , he said definately not.
I commend her loyalty to the party but do wish she would just sit this out now.

I have said from the beginning if Obama won the nomination I would switch parties and vote Republican. Now that we have no more Bush's running.

Wasn't McCain picking Palin to begin with a sexist and desperate move? Let's look at it realistically, let's say there is no gender involved here and we put the top 20 names that the Republicans could have come up with and also this "no gendered" Palin into a think tank that let's everyone analyze all information other than gender to decide on who should be McCain's running mate? Where do you think Palin finishes under those circumstances out of the 21 in the running? I'm guessing 22nd or 23rd because there is also probably a few write ins that would beat her out also!!

Wasn't McCain picking Palin to begin with a "counterattack" on Obama's selection of a highly qualified candidate that is one of the most respected people in this country when it comes to foreign policy? The man that GWB called first to come to the White House to advise him after 9-11 and also brought back for advice on Afganistan and Iraq. Isn't Palin a "counterattack" to try to steal away voters that are disgruntled about Hilary not getting picked as VP? A counterattack and an insult to the intelligence of women voters if you ask me. It's like saying to them "I think you will vote for this woman because she is just that a woman! Plus hey we will throw in an extra bonus. She is a Mother of five and going to be a grandmom real soon. A lot sooner than she had planned as a matter of fact. So if anyone is guilty of sexism and insulting the intelligence of a diverse group of American women it is McCain and his Rovian warriors.

So what if her campaign slogan is going to be "please help me build a bridge to nowhere? Oh never mind, I changed my mind about that! It really is a bad idea! But I'll just keep these millions though okay? I promise I'll put them to good use!"

Donald, could you please list Obama's insults of Senator Clinton? Other than politics and policies that is? Isn't that what you are supposed to do when you run against someone? Say that their ideas didn't work and won't work? Senator Clinton is a hell of a woman though, you are right about that! She is putting aside arguing with someone over who out of him and her would have been better for the country! The reason she can put that aside is because she KNOWS for a FACT That OBama will be better for the country than McCain. WE have had eight years of proof there. Oh wait, that was Bush.. I am sorry I get the two of them confused sometimes.. It's tough to tell them apart when they are joined at the hip in a loving embrace!!

McCain is no Bush, Bob! He use to be called a RINO or Republican In Name Only. He crosses party lines to do what is best. He was for the surge in Iraq years ago. And by the way, Obama, who was against the surge, admitted that it has worked.

As for McCain voting with the president 90% of the time. Obama has voted with his party 98% of the time. If he gets in there Harry Reid and Nance Pelosi will roll all over him. There will be no change just like he didn't change any of the corruption running rampant in Chicago when he was our senator.

Bob, if you did any research you'd know that McCain and Bush are so different. As different as Obama and Hilary and that's pretty different.

I didn't want either Hilary or Obama. But if I were Hilary, I'd tell Obama to stuff it. She won't though, because she's hoping if he does get in, it will be for only 4 years and she can try again.

I have been reading a lot of political articles and it hurts me that people belittle each other, and the candidates, the comments on this one has me laughing and I can't explain it I think it was your comment Just BERF, "Isn't that what you are supposed to do when you run against someone?"

No, Bob.......what you're supposed to be doing is running FOR someone......

Like the people of the United States, for example.........."

I read it wrong, and had the image of the candidates running away, from crowds of people... I have a feeling if they did this in arenas, there would be no winners, or supporters either, they would all kill each other.

One observation I can make is that no one interrupted Senator. Obama like they did Senator McCain and that really upset me as I think each of these fine intelligent men deserved their time uninterrupted. I thought the acceptance speeches were so important, and I think McCain proved some of the character they said he had in how he handled it.

You are right Berf, so it's a shame that all Sarah Palin did for most of her speech was attack Obama!

Lera, do you follow closely what's going on in Iraq? Guess what, yes the surge did work. But as part of the "surge" we armed and trained 70000 Sunni Militia. They are the ones who did most of the "dirty work" in gettin AlQueda to chill out a bit. Now the President of Iraq has said that it is time for America to put in a concrete withdrawal schedual and stick to it. What he (the SHITE President and I am sure you know the difference there. McCain didn't but I am sure that you do) made as a condition before the withdrawal though is that these Sunnis turn in all of their weapontry before we pull out. Why do you think he wants that? What do you think is going to happen in a country made up mostly of two "tribes" that hate each other and have hated each other for as long as anyone knows if one of those tribes is heavily armed (by us) and the other tribe is in "Power"? Does that thing called Civil War sound familar? The thing that a couple of years back Obama said was going to happen sooner or later? I just read an article in the news magazine called "The Week" (ever heard of it? it is an excellent unbiased mag that gives all sides of every story) that American Generals and ex-generals are saying that Iraq is a powder keg under the surface and we gave one side of the equation the best arms that a militia could ever hope to have.

Meanwhile over in Afganistan (you remember there right? Where Bin Laden probably is, if he's still alive. Plus right next to our good FRIEnD Pakistan) we are losing grip on what we once had and that same magazine has said that all that we have done there over the past 7 years is in danger of completely collasping. So you are right the surge "worked" in an area where there was no terrorism to begin with years ago and has "un"worked all of the progress that brave American and a real coalition of nations worked for years to achieve.

McCain "used to be called RINO" Lera I agree. You used to be called a little girl years ago when you were a child. Are you still a little girl? You know what is so comical? You all admit that Bush is a screw up that has done a horrible job. But still you want John McCain to be president. The same John McCain that just eight years ago, you all voted against in a landslide in the Republican primaries because you thought Bush was the better choice to be president. If that isn't an endorsement for Obama, I don't know what is!!

Terry M., came up in the middle of Chicago. Joe Biden is the son of blue collar workers from Delaware and of a family that I know. Palin has been in Alaska all of her life endorsing bridges to nowhere to be built and than saying she didn't after it became a controversy and AFTER she had already used the EARMARK money. Can you tell me where her "blue collar" ties are compared to where Biden's are? I agree with you about McCain though. The son and grandson of highly revered Admirals in the navy who couldn't finish higher than fifth from the bottom in the Navall Academy than went on to crash 5 fighter jets worth millions of dollars and possibly killed American while doing so. You are right that he has no blue collar skills.

However, we prominent Democratic, Independent and free-thinking Republican and ex-Republican women can handle our own outrage.

Palin has sure stoled the thunder from Obama. Palin is seen as a person who still has ties to blue collar America. Something the other three do not have.
Terry M., Sep 5, 2008, 7:00pm EDT

While I don't even think that is close to right Terry, all I have to say is yeah now let's wait for the lightning bolts called reality that will soon hit her!!

Palin husband is a blue collar worker, which means her immediate family is a blu collar family. At present none of the other three can be considered blue collars. Palin has reached star status without being immortalized.

I agree, Terry, it's hard to blame her for reaching for an offer that is too good to be true. And, it's too bad she and McCain aren't advocates for blue collar workers.
-------------------------------------------

Sorry for the lack of flow here, but this was accidentally deleted and I've been asked to repost:

We shouldn't even talk about Sarah Palin (suits me, I'm bored already), it's sexist.

Sarah Palin on sexism and whining:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9Y8FKAsxmk

I think its more sexist to keep her locked away from the media like she is a china doll or a puppet.

She is her husband is union member. Right now the only only people I see whining are the Obama supporter because they cant stand the media attention Palin is getting. Plus adovating big goverment give away programs is not advocating for blue collar workers.

The other three no longer have that tie to working america. Matter of fact most people who get major party nominations these days feel they are above everyone else.

I was undecided on who to vote. fornew I was not going to vote for Obama at all. But was not for McCain either. I was considering Bob Barr, until he chose Palin as his running mate. When I read about her, I saw I agreed with her on many things more so than the other three. So I am voting for McCain/Palin.

Also I am union member , but when I go vote there are other things I vote for beside ecomonic issues. Plus now the Democratic party has become a party of radical liberalism. They have no toleration when it come to people opposing their views.

Who is whining Terry? I think the media attention is going to be what brings her down in the end.

I mean there was a lot of whining forever about all of the media attention that Obama has been given. I don't think it was or is his supporters that whined so much about it. I think actually if I follow back your comment stream I am believing that there were a few comments from you there a time or two about it, weren''t there?

What Union are you a member of, if you don't mind my asking? I was a Steel worker for years and a shop steward for them. I was a Teamster for a lot more years than that and a shop steward there and an organizer. Of course that was a few years back.

I think if I was a guy, I'd probably send out a bunch of women too, and especially Hillary because Palin compared herself to Hillary, which isn't even a close match, and I'm sure Hillary would love to rebutt/defend herself. The other thing is the knee jerk response to anything that even hints of sexism, like the word "shrill" which I didn't even know had a gender. Anything Obama says can and will be used against him, and I'm quite sure he's been read his mysogynist rights.

As a Hillary supporter I will repeat the comment I made this morning in conversation about Palin.
"The thought of that woman being Vice-President and a heartbeat away from the Presidency scares me."
Palin has indeed energized people and I know I am not the only one who has decided to so our best to prevent our fear from coming true. I will proudly wear a "Hillery Supporter for OBAMA" button as I campaign even if I have to make one myself!

Hillary was going to be out campaigning for Obama, so it wouldn't have mattered where she went. The spin still would have been "OBAMA DISPATCHES HIS BEST COVERT OPERATOR TO ANYWHERE." Women are going to vote for Palin because she is a female, that is the joke, or so it is told. I guess I give women more credit for being intelligent. Less concerned about the gender, further concerned with the issues this country has been and continues to face.

Lets see a comment was made up above that those that support Palin would still support her no matter what comes out about her, or at least something along these lines... My answer to this, is sounds like the Bammy cult members... No matter what comes up about Bammy, they still support him... So I guess turn about is fair play.....lol

That is a good observation, Vickey.

And since Nanina above thinks that women will vote for Palin just because she's a woman, I say that some people will vote for Obama just because he's black. And some women will vote for him just because he is pro-choice.

I am voting for McCain but I also like Palin. I see a lot to admire in both of them.

No Lera, that is not what I said, I do not believe that women will support Palin because she is female. I believe that women are a lot more intelligent, they will ultimately vote for the issues and not on gender at all.
Evidence so far shows that Palin isn't drawing a lot of support outside of the republican base. The ploy might have been to snag Hillary supporters but the only thing Palin and Hillary share is the same chromosome.

Thanks for the link. I read earlier that the Obama campaign team was calling up the reserves to help with the women vote. There's little doubt that Governor Palin has made the Obama team nervous. Coming debates and media interviews will tell more about Governor Palin, and I hope she does well. She has piqued my interest...
The coming weeks should be interesting.

This makes me kind of glad I am a Independant voter :-) Not a good mix of Elephants and Donkeys fighting each other. They both have their strengths and weakness. Sounds like a cartoon I saw the other day about two males gerbail fighting and by shear genius a boy put them in a seperate cage with a female and they were peacful. So it seem taht they got their females for their advantages. Sadly many people use feamles for their advanages. . . . . . .

I'm sorry, but I must revistit the mulatto thing. I can appreciate word play with the best of them, and you can't please everybody any of the time, but some folks might find that one liner offensive. Quantifying "blackness" is a slippery slope. You got mulattos, quadroons, octoroons, and then it gets really tiresome and the one drop rule gets invoked.

There is no confusion there ... there is no way any thinking American can vote to continue the Republican party's leadership of the country, that is what needs to be changed.

Yes, the alternative has problems, but I honestly do not care if I disliked Barack Obama, he gets my vote regardless.

All this garbage in the media is boring and pointless, there is just no alternative unless you are just deluding yourself.

You know I for one will be happy when the election is in the past. Then we all can get back to being friends. The government's still going to rambles on. mistakes and greed and misappropriations are still going to occur no matter who answers the phone at the white-house at 3am.

To half of you on here, I am evil because (in spite of the fact that I don't believe palin is even remotely qualified for C-in-C) I am going to vote McCain.

To half of you on here anyone voting for Obama is stupid, naive and disillusioned.

I am sick of it. K-E-O, Binky, Kerrel & Rory; you're still my friends but I am tired of arguing politics.

Let everyone who can legally vote, vote & who wins, wins - let's stand behind them.

To Bruce I am going to use a portion of your thought; all this garbage on Gather is pretty boring and pointless.
