it's been so stormy and rainy here - a perfect time to be inside and do inside things. we love to make jam. we've still got tons of peaches to deal with, and last night lillie and i decided to make peach jam. our dear friend mona will be a recipient! lillie said, i want to make peach jam for mona. now, mona also loves cardamom, so our peach jam was spiced with ginger and cardamom. the second batch was a little bit spicy, so maybe we'll call that spiced peach jam, and slather it on dark brown toast with cream cheese...
here are some photos of princess sea, making jam for mona. note the gap-toothed grin. she's been trying to figure out ways to show her missing front tooth as much as possible.
rainy day
one of many buckets of peaches still to eat!
cutting up peaches
cooking the spiced peaches with the pectin
boiling water bath
gap-toothed grin, stirring peaches
we practiced our math, in measuring, and science, since we used low-sugar pectin and had to teach about that. when you're homeschooling, everything can be a learning experience - AND a lot of fun.
mona - we'll ship your jam soon - i think we might try a few more recipes, first.
