Sarah Palin has SIXTEEN (16) Years Experience in Management, Local and State Government

September 05, 2008 10:30 AM EDT
Sarah Palin served two terms on the Wasilla, Alaska, city council from 1992 to 1996, then won two terms as mayor of Wasilla from 1996 to 2002. After an unsuccessful campaign for lieutenant governor of Alaska in 2002, she chaired the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission from 2003 to 2004 while also serving as Ethics Supervisor of the commission.

As governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin managed an $11 billion budget and 15,000 state employees, and manages the country's seventh largest economy.

What has Barack Obama done that compares? He's managing his own campaign? Obama has been campaigning the last year and a half....does that qualify as experience? In anything?

Obama won't acknowledge Governor Sarah Palin's experience as the chief executive of the state of Alaska. He has to deliberately steer clear of it because he knows he can't compete with her on that level, so all he can do is run against her experience as mayor of Wasilla and hope no one will call him on it. In other words, she has had to DO the job instead of RUN for the job.

That adds up to 16 years experience in management, local and state government.

Great. let's examine her record then....i'm sure we'll see that she is NOT as advertised....it's already clear that she was for the bridge to nowhere before she was against it....and that she's under investigation for abuse of power,,,,nice start to a 'major' career.....wait till folks find out she's a creationist....tah'll work and her initiative ' leave no book I don't like behind' will go over well too.

and that's just the tip of this iceburg....no global warming required to melt this one!

congrats!

Thats wonderful to know but how does that replace the demeaning, snide, sarcastic mockery she made of those of us who are community organizers attempting to help others. If we accept her meaning in her attempt to deride Obama's community actions I suppose the Boston Tea Party as well as the American Revolution was worthless. In their zeal to get her accepted I don't believe the republicans gave much thought to what was written for her to read.

Check out my post yesterday, about my high school English teacher who held a part-time job as Mayor of my hometown. And my town was at least twice the size of Wasilla.

I'm not putting down either my town or Wasilla, but I'm also not going to agree that her "executive experience" amounts to more than a hill of beans, on a national scale.

Sarah Palin has looked into and tried various religions in order to find the one. Rumors are rampant on this as well as other areas of her life.
Sarah Palin goes to Church on the Rock in Wasilla, Alaska which teaches Joyce Meyer and Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Life programs in 2005 and 2006 (Rick Warren’s course has also been done at John McCain’s Phoenix church).
When in Juneau, Sarah Palin goes to Juneau Christian Center, an AOG (Assemblies of God) pentecostal church.
Sarah Palin’s Christian faith, they say, came from her mother, who took her children to area Bible churches as they were growing up (Sarah is the third of four siblings). They say her faith has been steady since high school, when she led the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and grew stronger as she sought out believers in her college years.
A Valley cable TV program had hailed her as Wasilla’s first “Christian mayor.”

I find it ironic that Dems are continuing to blast Palin over the bridge to nowhere, when they are the ones who refuse every effort by Republicans to ban the use of earmarks. Without earmakrs, any monies sent to the States would have to be debated and voted on based on its own merits, in which case this would have been shot down immediately. The earmark process is designed to allow taxpayer money to be spent on projects which would not normally be approved otherwise. The last appropriations bill had approximately $8 billion in earmark spending. Why won't Democrats agree to the Republican moretorium on earmark spending if they acknowledge how wasteful it is?

Democrats know very well that their emperor has no clothes, any chance to paint his opponents with the same brush is simply good offense.

Just wait till the debates - there will be no teleprompters and we'll all witness a repeat of the Obama Saddleback debacle, as Barry struggles to put together a cogent thought.

You've got it Charles Signorile. Line item veto. Why won't Congress allow what is necessary to avoid these little projects? Because they have their own little projects they want to push through. Then when Bush, or the future president, McCain, vetos an entire bill because of the earmarks, they moan and complain how this wonderful bill for troop spending or education was vetoed! Vicious cycle. Let's get line item vetos approved.

Excellent, Aimee. Those 16 years against Obama's zilch experience in leadership and managing. You forgot that they had small business too, or still do?

What we're really experiencing is snobbishness. I wrote about that in my article about how divided our country is right now. People somehow think that because Obama became an attorney, that makes him hot stuff. It doesn't. They think being a community organizer gives him leadership skills. I don't know about Chicago, but here in Cincinnati, they hire kids right out of college to do that and most of them aren't doing much more than trying to raise money. Often door-to-door. That's not a leadership position. (Perhaps Obama needs to show us his job description?) His record in IL and Washington as a politician is pitiful. Voting present was definitely part of his plan to not anger either the "yes" side or the "no" side. (I guess he thought the rest of us wouldn't care?) He also started campaigning before anyone else (and asked for Secret Service protection almost a year before most do) and has missed most votes while campaigning. At least McCain has done some voting while campaining. The difference? McCain is more concerned about the country. I repeat, McCain is more concerned about the country. Obama is only concerned about himself, and if he gets into the White House people will discover that pretty quickly. I pray he doesn't.

According to Barna, 53% of Americans are born-again Christians and 60% of them are evangelical...and 90% of them are registered to vote. We need to make sure those folks get out and vote.

Aimee, the difference is McCain, Obama and Biden didn't bring a child out that was facing a very serious, private time in their life. Thrusting that child in the face of the press has sickened me to no end. I could never have done that to my daughter. Ever. For any amount of money or power.

Miss Havisham,

It's really about accepting the fact that politicians lie. If we are going to call out a "lie" of one, then we would have to look at the lies of all, and we don't have time or energy for that. That is why we work to get the facts straight.

When it comes to the subject of honesty, nary a word has been expended by the establishment media re-introducing Americans to Joe Biden's law school plagiarism and his lifting of lines from a speech by British Labour Party Chief Neil Kinnock, the latter forcing Biden to exit the 1988 presidential contest. Now, there is a serious lie.

You see how it could go on and on and we would be buried in this.

Excellent point about Alaska being the seventh largest economy in the nation. The top issue these days seems to be the economy, and out of all 4, only Palin has experience managing an economy, and the Alaskan economy is the type of economy that we want for our entire nation: one that uses industry and innovation to harness energy for the people, one that makes energy technology truly profitable for the people.

TJ,

Righton, again. Obama and Biden combined don't have anything near Sarah Palin's experience.

She is in the vanguard of the new generation of conservative politicians. Louisiana's Bobby Jindal isn't far behind. She puts the lie to the argument that conservatism is headed for the dustbin. She will serve as a clarion call to younger women and men who find her dynamic, upbeat personality, rootedness and strong advocacy of conservative ideas appealing.

By the way, for anyone who trusts polls....here is an interesting one taken by AOL today:

Poll Results:

Now that both major parties have held their conventions, who will you vote for?

McCain and Palin 66% 178,597

Obama and Biden 30% 81,827

I'm not sure 3% 8,758

Some other candidate 1% 2,067

I don't vote 0% 1,230

Note on Poll Results :

Total Votes: 272,479

I'm a bit reluctant to give out highly personal information about myself on Gather articles.

Particularly those that would have absolutely no relevance since "I" am not running for any public office at the moment.

I am happy to share with you; however, that Sarah Palin, the focus of this thread, has experience at being at the helm of running the seventh largest economy in the nation.... and has done wonders with that budget.

I fear we have seen only the beginning of how Sarah Palin will be attacked and lied about in this campaign. Somehow I feel our soccer mom with lipstick might be up to the task of dealing. I think she's tough !!!!

Obama is the one who doesn't get it! The more I try to make sense of his vague economic plan, the more it seems to me that Obama is a man deeply conflicted with himself.

Carla,

I mentioned before that we would more than likely not agree with every political position our nominee choice has.

You know, Carla, in the beginning, I thought I would probably vote for Obama. Through his campaigning, and research I have done on him, I learned I could not vote for him.

For me, personally, and I know you don't agree, John McCain's candidacy represents a new and important chapter for this nation. And how do I know this? Well, for one thing, by the volume and ferocity of attacks, outright distortions and lies that have come against him by Obama and Co.

Carla insists on spreading lies. This will not stand, here.

Carla's Lie #1. "They are against abortions even in case of rape and incest..."-- A Lie; any action to overturn the bench-legislated "Roe v. Wade" heresy would include provisions for crisis cases.

#2. "They" believe that birth control is the same as abortion...."-- Another Lie; They are against teaching 8-year-olds how to put condoms on cucumbers, and believe that this practice, and ANY form of sex "education," should be taught in the home, by Parents. She also disingenuously refers to the abortion Pill RU-482 as "birth control." You are a Leftist Liar, and you disgust me.

#3. "They are against stem cell research..." -- And yet another knee-slapper, if it weren't so dishonest. "They," and EVERYONE ELSE, are against FEDERALLY FUNDED stem-cell research. It is horrific for Christians and those who are AGAINST this practice, to pay for this cannibalism with the Tax-dollar of those who reject it. Private Ghouls who wish to engage in this practice are legally allowed to do so.

Carla is certainly allowed an opinion, as are we all; however, she will not be allowed to Lie in this manner, and on every thread she participates on.

I will expose you, Carla, every time this is attempted. Again, this will not stand.

"Thats wonderful to know but how does that replace the demeaning, snide, sarcastic mockery she made of those of us who are community organizers attempting to help others"
She did not do that against you or others like you, she was referring to Obama because he had no responcibility in his "Efforts" as a community Organizer. If you remember the issue of Obama as a community Organizer was nothing was ever done through him, but through others, and he left before anything was even complete. In other words, he lacked any Real Responcibility as a Community Organizer, and was an insult to you that actually do that type of work.
I find this crazy, I support Barr, and find myself defending my opposition because the Liberals can never look at facts, they have to spew what they are told to without looking up facts for themselves except through their own corrupt networks. Palin would make a far better President than Obama could ever hope to make. ANd that is an simple fact.

Fighting with these folks on here is a waste of time. Their only purpose in life is to hear themselves rant and rave.

Read my comments on your other article.

I have a great deal of respect for all 4 candidates, as humans, and as candidates trying to get elected. They all have more class than most of the media, and a lot of the blogosphere. I disagree totally on their ideology. That does not make me a bad guy or them (bad guys or woman).

There are 2 notes; however, that I will reiterate, The definition of sexism is an attack on a Liberal Woman, and it is always "Open Season" on Christians.

Bert,

~Sigh~ Unfortunately, you are right.

I appreciate your logic, and the "fairness" you show in all of your comments. (Sometimes above and beyond the call of duty. :) )

My thanks for stopping in.

Miss Havisham,

Quite frankly, I question the validity of ANY of the polls as far as being a true sampling of opinion of all .... and they change, hourly.

Well, out of the same Rasmussen poll Miss Havisham quoted above:

McCain is now viewed favorably by 58% of the nation’s voters while Obama earns positive reviews from 57% (see trends). McCain earns favorable reviews from 91% of Republicans while Obama is viewed favorably by 87% of Democrats. Among unaffiliated voters, McCain’s favorable ratings are at 64%, Obama’s at 54%.

The Rasmussen poll is indeed close, which is a good sign in my book.

Gallup Poll:

Religion Remains Major Dividing Factor Among White Voters September 5, 2008
John McCain’s lead over Barack Obama among highly religious white voters, currently 65% to 26%, has been quite stable all summer and has not yet changed with the selection of Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate.

Thank you, Mark-John, for exposing Carla's lies. She is spreading those lies all over Gather and it's getting really tiring.

As far as Gov. Palin's remarks about community organizers. I don't feel that she was making fun of them at all. I think she was pointing out that most community organizers don't turn around and try to run for president.

Spencer does't like her mockery? Wow! That's funny. We, the right, are not allowed mockery.? Sorry, but get used to it. We have so much to mock. For starters, Obama is a socialist who practiced Islam or is a secret practicioner. Second, Biden is a cheat and a liar. Sorry, if the truth hurts.

Hi I like it too....shows the real me.... tough and pretty! and a reformer with results......oops thats someone else...I've become so enamored of Sara-Haras Palin...why as soon as we get the pelintologist to tell us about what the fossil wants to do I/m sure we'll see a real bump......in the road to the White House that is for the new Reformed*Maverick!

Hi Queenie.....Mockery? sure you're allowed to mock..... especially since the disgrace that has become your party has failed in every respect is now obviously running from itself?

I especially like your own personal flip-flop....thought you'd had enough of election-earing......

just sayin. I love the Change in the party....that;'s so attractive too....just like my suite, probably made in China, Seems like you all are now no longer rich elitists! Popuilist Mavericks all....including Billionaire s Romney, Juliani, McCain....and the rest......hmmmmm but will it play in Pioria?

Oscar de la renta dress 3000
chanel J12 white ceramic watch 4500
3k diamond earings 280 000
4 strand pearl necklace 11-25000
shoes by Taryn rose 475

signal it sends.... priceless.....as well as the slight misstep of taling about those poor poor people who are hurting because their real estate investments are failing!

fake soldiers and the wrong images? Walter Reed High????????? that shows the same attention to detail they used in CHOOSING [that word again] the most obviously qualified person in the entire party for VP....

I have a bridge to nowhwere sell you all....on Ebay.....for a profit of course.

Enjoy the election!

"I make [decisions] as quickly as I can, quicker than the other fellow, if I can," Mr. McCain wrote, with his top adviser Mark Salter, in his 2002 book, Worth the Fighting For. "Often my haste is a mistake, but I live with the consequences without complaint."- John McCain

No, Carol, of course not. We, a little to the right, are only allowed to watch and listen while they do the "Double standard" thingie.

I heard, on CNN, this morning, that Obama and Co., had approached Sarah Palin's ex brother-in-law (Paratrooper Gate) with a huge sum of money in exchange for dirt on Sarah. That is really bottom-dwelling.

Hi Aimee not that it will change YOUR MIND or vocabulary...it is aftyer all limited: But this might prove at least a bit fun to watch....it is your own party's words....spoken by them...includes Ms Palin.

Russell,

This is such a sensitive area for me!! Obama did all the talk about his community organizing because he has no other accomplishments. It turns out Rezko, his big supporter, was developing affordable housing in the same communities Obama organized and represented as a State Senator.

Rezko’s affordable housing projects started to fail in 1996, and he stopped all payments on them. Who would believe that Obama did not know this, and that the projects were failing, or that he had no community connections to tell him the projects were failing. Community organizers are supposed to know the streets they work in, they're supposed to know and care about the buildings. Why didn't he ask Rezko where all the grant money for rehabbing those units in his district was going?

In total there were 11 projects in Obama’s district, affordable housing projects, that failed and Obama had NO clue, so he says. This was a substantial loss of affordable housing in a very low income neighborhood, YET Rezko basically pocketed about 6 million in developer fees.

If this could happen in a small neighborhood...what could happen with him at the helm in DC?

the biggest complaint about Sara Palin seems to be that she is a conservative who holds christian values. WHAT! Are conservative christians to be cast out of any public office and denied the right to participate in theri government .... just because LIBERALS don't LIKE their ideas?!?!? What ever happened to DIVERSITY? Or is it that diversity of ideas just don't count? And if that is the case ... who are the real racist and sexist bigots in the country?

Hi Aimee - I wholeheartedly support the McCain/Palin ticket, precisely because they are not the politics-as-usual types. Palin could be any number of mothers I have known, and McCain has a great deal of experience in the shark-infested waters of D.C. Like him, or not, he is a man of principle.

Obama is way too naive and frightening to even contemplate in today's world, and Biden is just an idiot...period.

TICA,

"who are the real racist and sexist bigots in the country? "

Can you ever recall an attack on an individual by the liberals, that has gone to the lengths of out and out discrimination, such as the one that has been visited upon Sarah Palin since her nomination for VP??

I can't think of one that has been designed to attack a candidate's family as this one has.

WHY? I can only believe it's because they're scared to death of her!!!!
