"John McCain was all about global warming and the integrity of the science. The selection of Sarah Palin is a complete reversal from that position," said Rep. Brad Miller, D-N.C., who traveled to the South Pole with McCain in 2006 to visit with scientists studying climate change. "She is disturbingly part of the pattern of the Bush administration in their approach to science generally and the science of the environment in particular."
The McCain campaign Wednesday characterized Palin as a leader on climate change, noting she set up a sub-cabinet office to map out state response strategies and sought $1.1 million in federal funds to help communities threatened by coastal erosion and other effects.
Palin's administration relied in part on research from scientists funded by the oil industry to fight against the polar bear's listing, arguing that the impact of global warming on the bear 20 years from now can't be predicted.
Under Palin, the state Board of Game authorized for the first time in 20 years the shooting of wolves by state wildlife officials from helicopters. The order resulted in the controversial shooting this summer of 14 one-month-old wolf pups taken from dens on a remote peninsula 800 miles southwest of Anchorage - an act that environmentalists claim was illegal.
According to representatives from zoos in Alaska, they were not contacted regarding finding homes for the orphans before they were killed, even though the state guidelines require that an attempt be made to find homes for orphaned pups before they are killed. Furthermore, Alaska's own laws strictly prohibit the shooting of pups in the den.
The point of the wolf hunt was strictly monetary. Palin and her crew felt the wolf hunt was needed to increase the caribou population. Not because the population was in any danger...but to make sure there were more for the sports hunters. The caribou population had plummeted over the years, but not due to the wolves. It was due to overhunting. Even the majority of Alaskan residents, upon learning of the killing of the pups, was outraged by the act. Palin has opposed citizen ballot initiatives to stop the practice.
I have a lot of hunters in my extended family. My uncle use to go to Canada each winter to hunt game. Many responsible hunters are agast that the state would slaughter a predator just to create more game for trophy hunters.

As usual, you have no defense for the facts, and decide to make personal attacks. In fact, you decided to attack the entire state of New Jersey and every person in America that doesn't kill their own food instead of adddressing the issue.
Was McCain really that dumb to believe that women would now vote for him because his running mate has a vagina?
Apparently, McCain believes the women of this country are as dumb as he apparently is.
I do leave these things to the professionals. They all agree it was illegal and wrong.
I didn't know he had any "standing" with environmentalists.
"The McCain campaign Wednesday characterized Palin as a leader on climate change...."
Palin: "A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one though who would attribute it to being man-made...."
Nice try. McCain IS tired and worn out. He also needs a full medical evaluation for alzheimers, including a psychiatric evaluation for ptsd. Seriously!!!
Jule: "Palin Affair article from Nationsl Enquirer, anyone?"
Really? I hadn't heard that one yet.
Here is one of many links on the story.
Now personally, I think it could just be someone in Alaska with an axe to grind. But what do I know? I didn't believe the Edwards story either, and they had that one right.
