One of my favorite movies is a movie called “Mystery Alaska”. It is about a team from a small Alaska town that convinces the New York Rangers to come play them in an exhibition game. It stars Russell Crowe and it really makes you feel good about being an American. After all, it is the small towns and communities across our great country that makes America what it is. Big cities be damned, with there superfluous sophistication and intellectual pretentiousness. Now, let me transition from a fictional movie that makes one feel all nice and cozy to a real life horror show that could very well be coming to a White House near you.
Sarah Palin spoke tonight in Minnesota. Sarah Palin, who presently is under investigation; who has a teenage daughter who is now pregnant; who was last seen as a mayor of a town slightly bigger then my High-School; who is married to someone who advocates the succession of Alaska from the Union. Boy was she great. She really showed those intellectual snobs what it really means to be American. It does not matter that we are now in a globalized, interconnected world. It does not matter that we as a country that was once the gold standard in education, innovation, and morality, yet now see some of our iconic brands fall in prestige to foreign competition. In case you did not notice, a Belgium/ Brazilian company has bought out Budweiser. If you only care about beer and silly movies, that should at least make you mad enough to advocate for change. It does not matter that over the last eight years the Bush administration has neglected to confront key issues such as global warming, human rights, genocide, and other such international issues. It does not matter that the Bush Administration has regulated our constitution to a mere advisory role. Sarah Palin, nominee of a major party for Vice-President, chose to throw left hooks at Barack Obama by sensationalizing key issues and simplifying the real problems we now face as a national, while simultanously mocking Obama for appealing to our better nature, and challanging us to make a difference. I thought her performance, in a word, was disgusting.
In her speech tonight Sarah Parlin, Governor of a town of 600,000 (I know it is really a state, but seriously) chose to use her keynote address to mock, belittle, and deceive the American public). Her rancorous speech may have played well to certain voting demographics, but it did not exhibit the professorial approach that is necessary in solving the problems that this country faces. Folks, lets be honest, the issues at stake are too high, the consequences too great to succumb to such blatant pandering. Comments like “I was the mayor of a town, which is kind of like being a community organizer, but with responsibility” are cute, and funny, and make people who want there leaders to “be just like me” all warm and fuzzy inside. This is not what we need right now. We need someone who will cross party lines, take a chance, and really confront the issues at stake. Now call me unpatriotic, but I want a leader who will rise above mere name-calling and roll up his sleeves not to throw a punch, so much as to pick up that shovel and get to work. I challenge the readers of this article to give me one legitimate reason why she should be second in command to a 72 year old with a history of cancer. What people have got to realize is that the rest of the world has to believe in us again, and they won’t with a McCain – Palin ticket. Having a vision and willing to work accross both party lines dometically, and through international organizations globally is important. Throwing insults and whinning like a little baby is not. Palin, tonight, if nothing else, proved that the Republican party still choses to care more about winining elections then accomplishing meaningful change. Hopefully the American people have gotten that out of there system, or have they?

Republicans are VERY good at distracting the American people. Don't be blinded by this little light, folks. There is DEEP trouble in there.
My God, how can you justify your opinion that "Sarah Palin is under investigation. Sarah Palin has a teenage daughter who is now pregnant?" Wow. Let he who has no sin cast the first stone.
McCain is a national hero, who has served in the military, with honor. Can Obama say the same? I find it hard to believe that Obama can serve as our Commander in Chief - the defacto highest ranking military member.
Yes it is a Global economy. Unfortunately, world opinion is all too important to the United States. Do you believe that Obama can face down Putin? We need a strong President, who can face the real challenges, like physical threats to the United States.
Yes, I know Global Warming and recessions, lack of jobs, foreign take-overs all are vanilla, touchy-feely subjects. However, we need a President who will prevent the next war; we need a President who will protect the United States from something worse the what happened in 2001, such as the use of biological or nuclear weapons.
America is a strong, kick-ass country, but a gentle giant. If I were President, I'd carry a big stick, and use it. Why? Because some countries, such as Iraq, Iran, and the *stan countries, only understand power. We are the biggest debtor nation, with the best GNP. We should have made Iraq a territory, and sold the oil it produces to fund our restructuring effort. Why didn't we? Because our Republican President does have a Global vision, and is concerned with the issues you shared.
Be glad I'm not President - you would be the first in line to assassinate me.
Sarah Palin is presently under investigation. This is what is commonly referred to as a fact. Now, facts generally are substantiated, so here goes: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/03/cbsnews_investigates/main4413750.shtml. This is just one example, others can be found at MSNBC.com, Cnn.com, Foxnews, politico, slate, judgereport, etc.
McCain is a national hero. I have read his books, listened to him while interning in the capital, and read transcripts from many of his speeches. My point is not whether or not John S. McCain is a national hero, it is what type of leadership we need. He has proved to be erratic, temperamental, tempestuous, and just plain mean. Ask anyone who has ever received a McCain - O - Gram. Don't know what that is, then you should probably ask somebody.
Face down Putin? Listen buddy, the mess that we are facing in the Caucuses is entirely are own doing. I tend to read a lot for someone who as you claim is ignorant. We have steadily encroached on those lands ever since Bush II has been in office. This is in direct conflict with the policy his father took after the breakup of the Soviet Union. Bush I refused to embarrass the Russians, as he knew that he still had to treat the new Rusian Republic with respect. This is a Republican policy predicated off Nixon and Detene. You respect your enemies, you do not agitate and annoy them for your own self interests. In case you haven't picked up a magazine, newspaper, book as of late, there is a major pipeline going through Georgia. President Bush famously said that he looked in Putins eyes and claimed he could trust him. I could write a whole article on why this was a huge miscalculation on his part. I dont believe you should have to face down your enemies. It is now economics and trade that will rule the day, not confrontation and military action.
You are foolish in thinking that Global Warming, loss of jobs, and foreign take overs do not have foreign policy implications. Global Warming is an issue to be taking seriously because not only does it affect industries like cars and factories, but it also presents an opportunity to truly garner the respect of the international community. Trust me, that is important. By the way, how do you propose to protect the country from biological and nuclear weapons by pissing of the Russians?
I feel as if you do not understand power or diplomacy, sir. Please look at western history in Iraq, Iran, and the Stans. It wasn't too long ago that Turkmenistan was begging the British to stay, Iran was are friend, and Iraq didn't exist. Please, safe me the effort of having to educate you and do some research.
I don't feel the need to respond to your last statement. The ignorance and obnoxiousness stands alone.
