This is a profile I received about Sarah Palin. I put it up on Gather partly because I am very concerned about the the downward spiral of our country, our wasteful, poorly thought-out energy policies, our ruined economy and school system, and the endless, incompetent, rouges-gallery of GOP hacks that have brought the country to its knees these past eight years. In the words of Obama-enough! Then came Sarah Palin--wants creationism discussed in science class, doesn't accept global warming as man made, has chided the oil companies for not drilling and pumping fast enough--never mind that the few billions of barrels of oil we have left in the US will last us about 3-4 years ten years from now--then what--duh?
While these serious issues fester, what does the news media do?--focus on scandal and Palin's 17 year old daughter. I don't know what's worst--a cynical McCain who claims to be an environmentalist, believes in global warming and experience, and picks Palin, or our irresponsible, unprofessional news media. Anyway, here's a profile of Palin by a fellow Alaskan:
Dear classmates -
As an Alaskan, I am writing to give all of you some information on Sarah Palin, Senator McCain's choice for VP. As an Alaska voter, I know more than most of you about her and, frankly, I am horrified that he picked her.
The most accurate description of her is red neck. Her husband works in the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay and races snowmobiles. She is a lifetime member of the NRA and has worked tirelessly to allow indiscriminate hunting of wildlife in Alaska, particularly wolves and bears. She has spent millions of Alaska state dollars on aerial hunting of these predators from helicopters and airplanes, dollars that should have been spent, for example, on Alaska's failing school system. We have the lowest rate of high school graduation in the country. Not all of you may think aerial predator hunting is so bad, but how anyone (other than Alaska wolf-haters, of which there are many, most without teeth), could think this use of funds is appropriate is beyond me. If you want to know more about the aerial hunting travesty, let me know and I will send some links to informative web sites.
She has been a strong supporter of increased use of fossil fuels, yet the McCain campaign has the nerve to say she has "green" policies. The only thing green about Sarah Palin is her lack of experience. She has consistently supported drilling in ANWR, use of coal-burning power plants (as I write this, a new coal plant is being built in her home town of Wasilla), strip mining, and almost anything else that will unnecessarily exploit the diminishing resources of Alaska and destroy its environment.
Prior to her one year as governor of Alaska, she was mayor of Wasilla, a small red neck town outside Anchorage. The average maximum education level of parents of junior high school kids in Wasilla is 10th grade. Unfortunately, I have to go to Wasilla every week to get groceries and other supplies, so I have continual contact with the people who put Palin in office in the first place. I know what I'm talking about.
These people don't have a concept of the world around them or of the serious issues facing the US. Furthermore, they don't care. So long as they can go out and hunt their moose every fall, kill wolves and bears and drive their snow mobiles and ATVs through every corner of the wilderness, they're happy. I wish I were exaggerating.
Sarah Palin is currently involved in a political corruption scandal. She fired an individual in law enforcement here because she didn't like how he treated one of her relatives during a divorce. The man's performance and ability weren't considered; it was a totally personal firing and is currently under investigation. While the issue isn't close to the scandal of Ted Stevens' corruption, it shows that Palin isn't "squeaky clean" and causes me to think there ay be more issues that could come to light. Clearly McCain doesn't care.
When you line Palin up with Biden, the comparison would be laughable if it weren't so serious. Sarah Palin knows nothing of economics (admittedly a weak area for McCain), or of international affairs, knows nothing of national government, Social Security, unemployment, health care systems - you name it. The idea of her meeting with heads of foreign governments around the world truly frightens me.
In an increasingly dangerous world, with the economy in shambles in the US, Sarah Palin is uniquely UNqualified to be vice president. John McCain is not a young man. Should something happen to him such that the vice president had to step in, it would destroy our country and possibly the world to have someone as inexperienced and inappropriate as Sarah Palin. The choice of Palin is a cheap shot by McCain to try to get Hillary supporters to vote for him. when McCain introduced her today, Palin had the nerve to compare herself with Hillary and Geraldine Ferraro. Sarah Palin, you are no Hillary Clinton. To those of you who, like me, supported Hilary and were upset that she did not get the nomination, please don't think that Sarah Palin is a worthy substitute. If you supported Hillary, regardless of what you think the media and the democratic party may have done to undermine her campaign, the person to support now is Obama, not Sarah Palin. To those of you who are independent or undecided, don't let the choice ofPalin sway you in favor of McCain. Choosing her shows how unqualified McCain is to be president. To those of you who are conservative, I guess you have no choice for president. But please try to see how the poor choice of Palin tells us a great deal about McCain's judgment. While the political posturing inherent in the choice of Palin is obvious, the more serious issue is the fact that the VP is, literally, a heartbeat away from the presidency. Sarah Palin is totally and unequivocally unqualified to be vice president, let alone president.
I know this is a lengthy and emotional email, but the stakes are high. I thought it might help for all of you, regardless of political affiliation, to know something about Palin from someone who has to live with her administration in Alaska on a daily basis.

I read that Mrs. Palin was almost recalled as Mayor of Wasilla for firing a couple of people who weren't on board with her.
This suggests a pattern which mirrors that of the current administration. Is it the kind of "change" we need?
If you mean that she wanted and expected a police officer to be fired because he ADMITTED to threatening to kill Palin's father... then, ok, yeah...guilty as charged. There is a reason she doesn't really care about this issue: she was in the right.
This is the least interesting part of JS's insights. Lets stop talking about Jerry Springer small-town nonsense and consider Ms. Palin's accomplishments and what she's done in her breif time in office. She is not accomplished, has almost no credentials, and her actions on energy, education, and the environment indicate she is completely unqualified for national office. And McCain, who was himself second from the bottom in his graduating class at the Naval Academy, has shown himself to be cynical and has gone back on almost everything that ever recommended him. How ridiculous for him to chide Obama for wanting to be president--apparently McCain will say anything and do anything for that office.

Dear friends,
So many people have asked me about what I know about Sarah Palin in the
last 2 days that I decided to write something up . . .
Basically, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton have only 2 things in
common: their gender and their good looks.
You have my permission to forward this to your friends/email contacts
with my name and email address attached, but please do not post them on
any websites, as there are too many kooks out there . . .
Thanks,
Anne
ABOUT SARAH PALIN
I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992.
Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a
first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her
father was my child’s favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a
first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more
City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the
residents of the city.
She is enormously popular; in every way she’s like the most popular
girl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and
won’t vote for her can’t quit smiling when talking about her because
she is a “babe”.
It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She
kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents
for seven months.
She is “pro-life”. She recently gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby.
There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.
She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.
She is savvy. She doesn’t take positions; she just “puts things out
there” and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.
Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a
champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin’s kind of job is highly
sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his
work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or
so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their
major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything
like that of native Alaskans.
Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.
She’s smart.
Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000
(at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about
670,000 residents.
During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running
this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been
pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had
gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had
given rise to a recall campaign.
Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6
years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over
33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the
City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation
(1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a
regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she
promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they
benefited residents.
The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration
weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed
money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it
with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage
the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said
she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a
new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a
multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece
of property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that was
still in litigation 7 yrs later–to the delight of the lawyers
involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the
community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it
would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that
could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.
While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office
redecorated more than once.
These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.
As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus
in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will
make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she
proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.
In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she
recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while
she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today’s
surplus, borrow for needs.
She’s not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas
or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren’t generated by
her or her staff. Ideas weren’t evaluated on their merits, but on the
basis of who proposed them.
While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected
City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from
the library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents
rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin’s
attempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew
her termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust the
Librarian are on her enemies list to this day.
Sarah complained about the “old boy’s club” when she first ran for
Mayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of “old boys”. Palin
fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as
Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people,
creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally
grateful and fiercely loyal–loyal to the point of abusing their power
to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the
case of pressuring the State’s top cop (see below).
As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla’s Police Chief because he “intimidated”
her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska’s top
cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure
and she had every legal right to fire him, but it’s pretty clear that
an important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn’t
fire her sister’s ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigation
for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen
contacts were made between her staff and family to the person that she
later fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to
replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded
for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew
her support.
She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in
help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town
introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council
became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She
abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn’t
like the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.
Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything
publicly about her.
When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got
the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one
of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no
background in oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this great
job which paid $122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the
high salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the
structured hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of this
Commission (who was also the State Chair of the Republican Party)
engaged in unethical behavior on the job. In a gutsy move which some
undoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved all
her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated and
garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as a
gutsy fighter against the “old boys’ club” when she dramatically quit,
exposing this man’s ethics violations (for which he was fined).
As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from
Senator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrel
politics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the “bridge to
nowhere” after it became clear that it would be unwise not to.
As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget
guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing
projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative
action restored most of these projects–which had been vetoed simply
because she was not aware of their importance–but with the unobservant
she had gained a reputation as “anti-pork”.
She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State party
leaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliated
them. Other members of the party object to her self-description as a
fiscal conservative.
Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah.
They call her “Sarah Barracuda” because of her unbridled ambition and
predatory ruthlessness. Before she became so powerful, very ugly
stories circulated around town about shenanigans she pulled to be made
point guard on the high school basketball team. When Sarah’s
mother-in-law, a highly respected member of the community and
experienced manager, ran for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her.
As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of package
of legislation known as “AGIA” that forced the oil companies to march
to the beat of her drum.
Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked to
global warming. She campaigned “as a private citizen” against a state
initiaitive that would have either a) protected salmon streams from
pollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in the
state (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State’s
lawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior’s decision to list polar
bears as threatened species.
McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be a
heartbeat away from being President.
There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more
knowledgeable and experienced than she.
However, there’s a lot of people who have underestimated her and are
regretting it.
CLAIM VS FACT
•”Hockey mom”: true for a few years
•”PTA mom”: true years ago when her first-born was in elementary
school, not since
•”NRA supporter”: absolutely true
•social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill
that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships
(said she did this because it was unconsitutional).
•pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to
promote it.
•”Pro-life”: mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby
BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life
legislation
•”Experienced”: Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has
residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska.
No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on
supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city
administrator to run town of about 5,000.
•political maverick: not at all
•gutsy: absolutely!
•open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at
explaining actions.
•has a developed philosophy of public policy: no
•”a Greenie”: no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores
and disconnected parking lots. Is pro-drilling off-shore and in ANWR.
•fiscal conservative: not by my definition!
•pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city
without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built
streets to early 20th century standards.
•pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on
residents
•pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city
government in Wasilla’s history.
•pro-labor/pro-union. No. Just because her husband works union
doesn’t make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim
that she is pro-labor/pro-union.
These are the people who propose to "bring us together as a nation".
I'm betting J.S. isn't well liked in Wasilla.
I want well-educated, elite scholars and experienced economists and scientists to get us out of the mess our kids will inherit from these self-serving political manipulators that have ruined the country the last eight years and who McCain has apparently signed a Faustian bargain with to get the presidency.
sore losers!!!
She's a throwback.
It seems you can write, but your reading ability seems to be "challenged"...
Is this a sexual innuendo, based upon McCain's inability to stay loyal and committed to his wife?
Btw, don't look now, but "mr. gutsy" has chickened out of a CNN Larry King appearance, because a CNN reporter had the balls to put the tough questions to one of his pathetic little talking points vomiters.
Palin made her name in part by backing tough ethical standards for politicians, standing up against her own party. During the first legislative session after her election as governor, her administration passed a state ethics law overhaul.
McCain will be seen as driving the course of this campaign overwhelmingly, a real change to the base, and the DEMS will be seen as merely reacting. Palin is Team Obama’s worst nightmare , an impressive resume–way better than Obama, with a son in the Army (and McCain’s son in Iraq), she blows the “chickenhawk argument” out of the water. She makes it a different game.
Sarah Palin defeated a corrupt political system in Alaska, that was entrenched with specialist interests, powerful lobbyists and laundered money
- Sarah Palin has successfully fought to reduce wasteful government spending, including earmarks from Washington
- Sarah Palin has defended liberty and freedom by enforcing and promoting a strict interpretation of the constitution
- Sarah Palin has supported our soldiers at war and at home, including visiting them abroad
- Sarah Palin has fought to reform education in Alaska
- Sarah Palin has fought to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil, and has encouraged the development of safe and clean energy sources in Alaska
The issue about her involvement in her home state is one that was dead in the water, UNTIL McCain selected her for his VP. With full knowledge of the issue, it is clear they think it is to do about nothing. Then Obama's people decided to bring that up again:
AND... did you see this?
According to Lisa Demer at the Anchorage Daily News, the McCain campaign says Palin “was never directly involved” and blamed the controversy on the campaign of the Democratic nominee, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama.
Will they now bring up the long, nasty case of Biden forging documents, and all the other skeletons tucked away in his 20+ year old closet?
Sarah Palin has 13 years as a political "Reformer" --- she can boast much more political and life experience than Obama.
There has never been a candidate with as thin a resume as Obama, and I repeat again, even his VP selection, Joe Biden, said, a while back, he didn't think Obama was ready to be president. Obama has only been a professor and a legislator, skipping votes, just voting "Present," or blaming others over criticism of Congress.
She will put No. Carolina and Georgia out of reach of Obama with the lackluster and enthusiasm she brings, and appeal to the women who have children and work. Who would say anything about a man having children AND a job? Supposedly, Joe Biden did it as a single father.
Sarah Palin is a truly rare individual -- She has absolutely locked down the gun-control vote. Her upcoming TV bio, at the Republican convention will be impressive and focus on the person she is.
Think like this, if she was on the democratic ticket what would you think?
Clark Kent, Sep 2, 2008, 6:33pm EDT
You forgot "and she knows how to use it" Clark...after all Cindy is getting up there in age.
Ohhhh....Poor widdo biwwy boy is getting his widdo panties all wadded up! LOL! I can't remember politics being this much fun in years! Look at how these delusional freaks are turning themselves inside out over this utterly pathetic McLame campaign! Go screw yourselves, asswads. Your boy is a joke, and his latest wife is even worse. I'll be surprised if he even polls in double digits by the end of the month.
By illegally hacking into her former boss's computer. In any other state, she would have been arrested.
Sarah Palin has successfully fought to reduce wasteful government spending, including earmarks from Washington
Nope. She hired a legal firm while mayor to get millions in earmarks for her little town. And it has already been noted she was FOR the bridge to nowhere before she was against it.
Sarah Palin has defended liberty and freedom by enforcing and promoting a strict interpretation of the constitution
Where? Cite an example? All I know is that it took a State Supreme Court ruling for her to uphold the state constitution to offer benefits to same sex couples.
Sarah Palin has supported our soldiers at war and at home, including visiting them abroad
Disturbed performed for the troops overseas, too. And lead singer David Draiman has a triple degree in Business Administration, Political Science, and Philosophy. HE HAS MORE EXPERIENCE than her!
Sarah Palin has fought to reform education in Alaska
By pushing for Creationism to be taught in science classes and censoring library books.
Sarah Palin has fought to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil, and has encouraged the development of safe and clean energy sources in Alaska
And every environmental group gives her abysmal ratings because she has consistently wents against environmental regulations to the point of suing to get polar bears removed from endangered species status.
Even someone who is an avowed republican, but at least has a functioning brain can see that bringing in a hardline extremist like this isn't going to do anything but get the most rabid rightwing base stirred up, while at the same time, turning off the very voters that both candidates hope to win over (the independents).
Given that the majority of the nation is diametrically opposed to virtually everything that extremist, rabid republicans stand for, just which independents are they thinking that they'll win over with this loony toon selection?
Oh, they'll get the anti-choice, religio-nazi freak vote, for sure. But the majority of the nation is pro-choice.
And, they'll get the big oil vote, but the majority of Americans are opposed to more corporate welfare handouts for billionaires.
They'll surely get the gun-toting freako wack job vote, but the majority of the nation FAVORS more gun control.
They'll get the anti-science vote that goes along with the religo-nazi vote, but again, the majority of the nation actually LIKES science.
They sure as HELL aren't going to win anybody over that's sick of the same old shit in politics, because she's up to her ass in the same old shit in politics, as is her pathetic running mate.
I give her a week. Then, she'll step down "for family reasons."
> here's a long list of other republicans who resigned, many for that very reason. I'm anxious to see if they think we'll forget, since they've switched off to a few other reasons in the last year.
The appointment of Sarah Palin as running mate by John McCain shows the same kind of deep thought and fore sight that Dubya displayed in searching for Osama bin Laden in Iraq!
Oh, and by the way, trees cause more air pollution than industry!
If this article is meant to fall into the category of reporting:
* Who is this "fellow Alaskan" J.S.? How do we know they really exist ?
* Are you a former Alaskan who can vouch for the writer of this profile, or was it sent to you anonymously ?
* Without knowing where and by whom this profile originated, how are we supposed to know it is real and not made up ?
If Sarah Palin is not be qualified for the office of vice president ( and she may not be ), facts should decide that
I did a search on snopes, but no mention is made of this e-mail.
Time will tell if it is real or not, but the issues raised are a valid concern for all voters.
Peter (less) D.- .... I'd say that the choice to have and Love her last child, and her daughters choice to keep hers, as well, solidifies her Pro-Life bona fides, wouldn't you (through gritted teeth) say?
You expose both your ignorance, and your foolishness...Sarah Palin is the ONLY Candidate in this Political Race with EXECUTIVE experience. From Mayoral to the Governors Mansion. Charlatan.
Sarah Palins' only shortcoming is simply put...she is the "wrong kind" of Feminist. The mean-spirited, ugly, non-armpit shaving, sandal-wearing, prematurely-gray-haired "female" crowd hates her. So do nut-less "men."
However, REAL Women like her. Thank goodness.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obama
She is a piece of trash and I am so disappointed in McCain that I am wondering if he was trying to bow out of his campaign? He used to be seen as a moderate...but now he is bending to extremists and is pandering to a minority in this country that is the very reason Bush's Presidency failed.
Who in the heck is she ? No one knew who she was until last week and I cannot imagine a single woman who has an ounce of class who would want her in office.
McCain basically took out a piece of paper, wrote a bunch of names down and picked one from a hat. he could have chosen Strawberry Shortcake and Christian Extremist women and the GOP would have said, "Okay, sure."
Not only does his judgement show that he is not running his campaign, and that he is blindly trusting Bush backers, it shows that he is completely out of touch with American women.
The majority of educated women in this country wait to have children and are not fundamentalists. Sarah Palin is a fundamentalist and she is lacking in experience and intelligence. Her teenage daughter is a liability and would make it "ok" for other teens to be pregnant. The White HOuse should represent the best of America and not the worst.
If he wanted an experienced and intelligent woman, why did he not ask Condoleeza Rice?
The white house should represent the best in America not the worst-example:
President Billy Clinton showed the young girls where they belong in his and your America Eliza, they belong on their knees under his desk "doing" the commander in chief. You clueless people are simply hill-ar-ious
Ooopsies...somebody's been smoking the wingnut crack. It's 65% and falling like a rock. Btw, she also has the lowest confidence rating among ANY VP SELECTION IN HISTORY!!! Nice pick there, Johnny McLoser!
"solidifies her Pro-Life bona fides"
NOBODY who supports illegal wars of aggression is "pro life." She is anti-choice. Get it straight, for once.
"Sarah Palin is the ONLY Candidate in this Political Race with EXECUTIVE experience. "
Jeezuz...you off the meds again?
"Sarah Palins' only shortcoming is simply put...she is the "wrong kind" of Feminist. "
What an ignorant fool. Her shortcoming is her utter lack of any credible, viable experience. She served as fricking part-time mayor of a shithole, redneck, pissant town of less than 7,000 in the middle of nowhere, and was nearly ousted for her abuse of power there.
While serving there, she earned the title "Pork barrel Palin" for her magical ability to rake in millions upon millions of federal dollars in earmark projects, with the help of her close pal Ted Stevens, who was later indicted, of course.
She has also served for merely 20 months as governor of a state at the edge of the planet with less population than 17 American cities, and, in the process, has done exactly what again? Specifically, what "grand" pieces of legislation has SHE HERSELF written, proposed, pushed through her congress, and signed into law? I've yet to hear of a single one, so I'm all ears.
I know of NOTHING that she's done at this point to earn her this glowing confidence that the wacky wingnut brigade has showered her with, but I've already seen PLENTY of issues that call into question not only HER "leadership," but that of McLame as well. It would appear that he either failed to vett her at all, or did an utterly pathetic job of it. Either way, he's shown that he's not fit to serve in the senate, let alone in the white house. This pathetic selection killed his already walking-dead candidacy.
Imagine if Obama had chosen say, Al Franken to be his running mate. Not a fair comparison, I know, because he actually has more experience and is far better known that Palin ever was, but just imagine...ok, let's say a Ralph Nader...well, there again, more experience and far more name recognition...
Ok, let's say that Obama picked ME to be his running mate, without ever having done any vetting beforehand. The only qualification for his decision was that I was a far left progressive liberal, and he wanted/needed to cement a base that was threatening to fall apart on him.
I MIGHT be able to lock down that wacky fringe of the DNC, because I AM a rather far left leaning progressive liberal, BUT, how many people in the other 70% of the voting population would vote for Obama because of me being on the ticket? Not likely very many, right?
Same thing with loony toon Palin here. Yes, she's got the wacky wingnuts all hot and bothered, without question. BUT, keep in mind that the views of the extremists on EITHER side of the fence are NOT generally the views held by the majority of the nation. In particular, they're not the views held by the fought-over "middle"...the independents that vote either way from election to election.
This selection is a colossal screwup. He'll gain his base, and alienate the rest of the nation, and lose by a much larger margin than he would've with any other pathetic wingnut choice. He gambled big and he'll lose big on this one.
Re Swartzeneger: At least try to bring legitimate arguments to the table if you want to make a point. Arnold can never be President of the USA unless congress rewrites the constitution.
A few things;
I'm thinking you either don't have any children or you didn't raise them in America in the last 15 years.
You sure don't under stand your country or the people in it.
Not sure you wanted to put down every women in the food processing business....Is your whole family vegetarian as a protest?
The "piece of trash" comment. Is that part of the new "dignity and respect" for others that Obama preaches?
By the way..."vegetarian" is an old Indian word for "Bad Hunter"...
McCain might have had a better chance if Arnold Schwarzenegger was allowed to run, but then again he's probably too big of a celebrity for McCain's tastes.
My point IS that he would have a better chance with Schwarzenegger, but I'll let you get the JOKE.
"80% Approval Rating in her Home State. I believe Pelosi is at about 16%, and that is generous.
Thank goodness."--
Another rightwing lie. Check your facts.
"Sarah Palins' only shortcoming is simply put
She has several, and the "evil librul media' has been pointing them out to you for the past several days. She's been linked to an anti-American seperatist group, she doesn't wear a flag lapel pin, her minister hates jews and wants them dead, she's immersed in a seedy ethics scandal, she was nearly removed as mayor for abuse of power, she's earned the title "pork-barrel Palin," she can't even manage her own household, she hates and wants to abolish science, she's vehemently anti-choice, she's anti-environment, she's pro-big oil, she wants to shovel yet MORE debt dollars at corporate millionaires, AND, she has virtually zero experience and absolutely NO qualifications to be VP.
That's all.
What is to be done with Obama then in that he has even less??
People Enjoying Tasty Animals: Another right wing lie???WOW- Sarah,Sarah. Barack or Biden one of them should put some lipstick !!!! on and get tough,Sarah kinda makes the two metro-sexual men? of the left look kinda -WUSSY!
"By the way..."vegetarian" is an old Indian word for "Bad Hunter"... "
