He could have chosen Mitt Romney. Bucking the extreme right wing evangelicals by choosing a Mormon could be called a maverick pick. McCain got the maverick title originally by doing things like standing up to "the agents of intolerance.". Not anymore.
At the start of this campaign I said that though I did not agree with Senator McCain's politics, I respected him as a person. I must now rethink that. At the moment I can only think that this reckless and self serving pick shows that Senator McCain doesn't give a hoot what happens to the rest of us after he is gone.
The Senator's pick has a bachelor's degree in journalism. She has not studied law, political science, the constitution, economics or foreign affairs. What she does seem to know a great deal about is drilling up Alaska and guns.
Pandering to big oil, the NRA and right wing evangelicals is a maverick move? Sounds George Bush and Karl Rove to me. Just more of the same.

2. McCain doggedly rejects earmarks and other wasteful spending. Palin was willing to go after her own party to ferret out corruption. This is the best hope America has had in decades of getting government to be responsible to the people and yet not responsible for the people, the way it should be.
3. Lieberman is a man I respect greatly, but still his views of the role of government are not at all conservative or consistent with the founding principles of this country (personal responsibility, individual freedoms, etc). So no, he would not be a good choice.

I have already said what I call panderting to big oil. McCain's pick does not believe in global warming, she has sued the federal government for putting polar bears on the endangered species list because it interferes with drilling and she wants to drill away at the Artic National Wildlife Refuge.

She is herself currently under investigation for corruption.
As for responsibility and personal freedoms? are you aware that Scalia and Thomas and probably Alito and Roberts don't believe in privacy OTHER THAN IN PROPERTY RIGHTS?....by the way....you don't own your body.......that sounds awfully fascist. Thomas thinks that States have the right to impose religion as the separation clause is for the Feds.....is that the kind of court you want?
