What's the difference between Katrina and Gustav' response?
We have an ELECTION in 2 months. Not a republican vs. a democrat governor, not a woman vs. a man governor. As an aside, for all the talk of sexism in politics, nobody has blamed her for not doing her job based on her gender as far as I know.
You won't see a picture of McCain's birthday cake. No cameras were allowed last Friday! In fact, he said he did not want to be anywhere near a cake. Where is Dubya by the way, he asked.

John McCain and George Bush during Katrina
Anyways, this time around, is REDEMPTION time. The republican apparatus is spending tons of money and mobilizing everything to save face in Louisiana. Last time around, they put the burden on local government and pretended that it was not the job of the federal government unless asked to answer. This time, they told local governments what to do and the governors asked for all the help they could get.
Hines' sight is 20/20. November 4th is 20/20. No fuck up can be allowed. If anything goes wrong, republicans will pay big time. They are doing a great job so far because there is something called CONSEQUENCE. Don't you love when people are accountable?
John McCain is not eating cake. Bush is off his butt and not wearing a tie. What a difference an ELECTION YEAR makes.

Bush and McCain three years ago. You won't see anything like that. It's an election year, stupid!

Like Obama said, "If this is to be an ownership society, it is about time the GOP owned its own failures."
They might as well start with Katrina.
But beyond all this is the fact that more than 2 decades ago, long before he made the film AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, Al Gore warned us that climate change, the effects of unbridled global warming, would bring more storms, bigger storms, and less predictable storms as a consequence of our failure to act. We are now witness to that happening.
Sometimes even the worst bastards can be made to do the "right thing" even when they could care less. The response to Gustav from the Feds and State has been commendable so far.
Now on to dealing with the record of McCain, Palin and their total unfitness for command.
You are right. They are doing the right-thing. Wish we could vote them out for extreme negligence any given year.
No they won't!!!
McCain said "Get the fuck outta here. I am on a roll here"
They should be taken into account for what they allowed to happen to the people of Katrina and not praised for using the latest disaster for their dirty campaign.
But it's the Republicans and it is just fuel for your fire.
I think the biggest difference is that there is a republican governor in charge now. No more finger pointing just examples of leadership.
