Both John McCain and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty have pointed to Palin's status as is commander-in-chief of the Alaskan National Guard as having high experience value.
Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell, adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard, considers Palin "extremely responsive and smart" and says she is in charge when it comes to in-state services, such as emergencies and natural disasters where the National Guard is the first responder.
But, in an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday, he said he and Palin play no role in national defense activities, even when they involve the Alaska National Guard. The entire operation is under federal control, and the governor is not briefed on situations.

In fact, it doesn't appear Palin has done anything to use the National Guard in any sort of emergency. A search of Alaskan newspapers finds many disasters: floods, fires, etc. But none handled by the National Guard. Most were handled by Homeland Security.

Look. Here is a village that waited over 5 months for the state to declare an emergency after, in September of 2007, the year supply of heating fuel they ordered was trapped due to inclement weather. As of February 2008, the village still had not received its order, and was paying $3,600 a pop to fly in emergency smaller reserves while waiting on help from the State. I guess that is what an executive does....lets a village in a remote part of the state go without heating fuel for the entire winter. Isn't the government responsible for the State's infrastructure?

Oh, look, seems Mrs. Palin thinks you can just turn on and off your elected official status to avoid breaking the law.
It is against the law for the governor to officially advocate for or against a ballot measure; however, Palin took what she calls "personal privilege" to discuss one of this year's most contentious initiatives, which voters will decide Tuesday.
"Let me take my governor's hat off just for a minute here and tell you, personally, Prop 4 -- I vote no on that. I have all the confidence in the world that (the Department of Environmental Conservation) and our (Department of Natural Resources) have great, very stringent regulations and policies already in place," Palin said. "We're going to make sure that mines operate only safely, soundly."

And here, pulling a play from George Bush's playbook, citing EXECUTIVE PRIVELEDGE to avoid turning over government e-mails to the union regarding labor contract negotiations.

And in a funny note, even her own mother-in-law isn't sure what the hell she is doing on the ticket.
"I'm not sure what [Sarah] brings to the ticket other than she's a woman and a conservative. Well, she's a better speaker than McCain," Faye Palin told the New York Daily News. "People will say she hasn't been on the national scene long enough."

Palin doesn't just disapprove of same-sex marriages, she believes in active discrimination against gays and lesbians. After the State Supreme Court ruled that Alaska's laws regarding providing benefits to same-sex couples was unconstitutional, Palin began actively campaigning to change the state constitution in order to prevent same-sex couples from enjoying the same rights as heterosexual couples.

Have you ever been to Alaska? Did you ever watch Northern Exposure? From what I have seen in photos and from experiences from my daughter's family trips to Alaska, the land can be very extreme in the winter months. I guess we would have to live there to see what winters can be like. I do remember a couple who went to Alaska in the early sixties or late fifties to build the Alaska pipeline who had to buy special blankets, for their radiators in their car and truck. Brutal. We can all sit by and speculate on what Palin may have done or not done, but anyone with half of a brain can figure that winter in Alaska isn't a walk in the park. Everything freezes up there.
SARAH PALIN'S 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IS PREGNANT!!!! How's that for the results of fantastic family values???
usually the ones that do that are the ones who dont escape the job no body wants..
the more i know about her , the more i dont want to know her..

I would be arguing with Julie that the woman is a heart attack away from the presidency. So is Biden...
I think whats funny is everyone compares Palin to Obama and not Biden. But on paper McCain and Biden have similar experience and are old white dudes to boot. While Obama and Palin are different and either one will make history by being elected. STOP comparing the Palin and Obama and start comparing Palin and Biden.... Oh and compare McCain and Obama directly too. I think you'll see that the republicans win in a faceup.
Its like the card game war. McCain and Biden are high face value cards (queen and Jack)that would cancel each other out while Obama and Palin are likes 5 and 9 (respectively). I think the whole thing is hilarious.
