I have read that Sarah Palin's selection as McCain's running mate has re-written the dynamics of the presidential election and broken the mold. I look at the evidence and say, not so fast.
A poll today has us back at 49% Obama and 41% mcCain. That's not a game breaker, that's a game loser. Granted, it's not over yet. 49 and 41 equals 90. Okay, figure that 90% are decided, and 10% are not yet committed to the big two. A couple percent will probably vote for Bob Barr or some other third party nominee. Eight percent still thinking? Unless all of them go for mcCain, he loses.
Looks like I was premature a week or so ago, when it looked to me as if mcCain had tied it up by virtue of the attack ads he was throwing at Obama. Maybe he better try more of that. He will, of course, after he expresses his concern about Gustav and waits to see if the Convention helps his position at all.
Let's try an unscientific survey. Think about how you were going to vote BEFORE McCain selected Palin. Got it? Okay, now think about how you intend to vote NOW. Got it? Okay, is there honestly any difference between the two votes? Like, were you a disenchanted Hillary supporter intending to vote Obama, and did Palin convince you suddenly to go McCain? Or did you support McCain previously, but are you so annoyed by Palin being a pro-lifer who does not see any connection between fossil fuels and climate change that you are going to stay home in November? Be honest now. Don't try to spin this. Did it change anything for you?

obama's ideas can be implemented at the legislative level. but i haven't seen much legislation for them so far. the president doesn't legislate, senators and representatives do.
Earlier on I liked what I heard Obama say - but the more research I did on his platform and the more I watched him - I decided that he is not the candidate I am looking for. Choosing Biden as his running mate only made my view of that ticket even more solid.
McCain seems too entrenched in the "Good ol' boy club of Washington" for my liking so up until Friday's announcement regarding Palen, I had not given his campaign much attention. But now I am very intrigued...VERY!!! So far, I like everything I am learning about her and the more I see the better I like her as a potential "Commander and Chief".
So to answer your question, Game Breaker? Did Sarah Palin change your mind? For me I would have to respond - YES.
Marion E.
Obama is the ONLY candidate with a plan to help middle class, working people. There is a growing disparity between rich and poor in our country, and the middle class is eroding. He is the ONLY candidate left standing who will fight for the issues women care about.
For a non-partisan and exhaustive look at what has really happened to the U.S. economy under various presidents throughout history, see UNEQUAL DEMOCRACY, by Princeton academic Larry Bartels. Bartels charted it out, and found that Democrats have built a better economy and a more just society throughout our history. Americans who are falling for the idea that putting more money in the hands of the wealthy will eventually trickle down to the middle class and poor in terms of jobs and higher incomes, would do well to read this book.
We can't afford John McCain's proposed economic policies for four years, and we certainly can't afford the risk associated with Sarah Palin -- whose executive experience is far less that the former female county executive of the place where I live -- as President. There is too much at stake in this election.
By the way, who are you trying to kid, John H.?! Your previous comments reflect that you have been campaigning for McCain on gather for quite some time.
" There's No Business Like Snow Business "
watchin the convention yet? or just stirrin the kool aid?
You wrote "By the way, who are you trying to kid, John H.?! Your previous comments reflect that you have been campaigning for McCain on gather for quite some time."
Please, PLEASE show me one referrence where I have remotely been seen as campaigning for Mccain.
I love it when you stupid, brain-washed, bleeding-heart-liberals try and label people with varying points of views than yours as "republicans", "Bush supporters", "religious right-wing lunatics" and now "McCain campaigners. It just shows how truly pitiful your little democrat party is!!!
I hate both parties, but I receive far more criticism from you left-wing loons then any republican die-hards. Maybe, just maybe they can handle someone with a different point-of-view!!!!
name callin will git ye nowheres fast here. might git cha a inveyetation to the shotgun weddin...not no murch else.
He's desperate and she shores up the base.....they were going to run another slash and burn divide and conquer campaign....and now that's off too for obvious reasons........so what's left?
Palin is a reform minded, young, unconventional pick that the conservative base approves of that could also help McCain out among women. Thats why I think it's a good pick. I'd have prefered Liberman, but you can't always get what you want (not to mention that it would destroy any chance of McCain getting elected).
Secondly, african american voters clearly voted because of race (Obama got ~85% of the black vote in the primaries, close to that even with the black woman vote), so who can really tell how women voters will react.
How is he desparate? He doesn't look desparate to me. Maybe in your small mind he is, but... hell, he doesn't even know how many houses he owns. He spent five and a half years at the Hanoi Hilton, I assure you he is cool, calm and collected. That sort of thing gives one a perspective on life that you and I won't ever know if we are lucky. And Palin proves it as his choice has got you moonbats all flustered.
Today Zogby had it McCain 47 and Obama 45
CNN has it at Obama 49 and McCain 48
On a day less than a week from the monumental speech at Denver stadium? Huge game changer.....
Ever consider what Sarah brings to the game as a reason to get behind McCain? Or do you think that people who were going to vote for McCain just admit it now?
Have you looked?
Re: Sarah Palin, can you imagine what the republicans would be saying if a democrat - say Obama - had made such a decision? To see republicans actually defend this choice for a VP candidate is more than amazing - it makes you understand how we are in the many messes we are already in today. So my question is how we can possibly expect anything to improve if we keep listening to these people. The theme of the McCain campaign could very well be: "Who do you believe, me or your lying eyes?" Republicans actually defend this choice - that's really one for the history books!!!
No. It did convince me to contribute more $$$ to Obama, and to Ronnie Musgrove, who is mounting a credible threat to Roger Wicker for Trent Lott's senate seat in my state. BTW, I live in the MS district (Wicker's old House seat) that elected a democrat (Childers) in a special election this spring. It stunned republicans!!!
I always knew you'd cave in and show us the true lib you are ;)
That would work with normal, mature, self-respecting people.... but not with the hardcore libs. One visit to DailyKooks and you will see the lack of class these people exude in all manners.
You can call me liberal, or progressive, or moderate, or lefty, or centrist - hell, you can even call me conservative - just don't call me neocon.
If republicans want any support from me, then they will have to stop pushing the agendas of the fossil fuel industries. They will have to stop filibustering tax incentives for renewables - especially a ten year investment and production tax credit that even Pickens (republican and Kerry "swiftboater") calls for. It's mostly about energy and who has the superior policies. But you know you can't win on that one, so I guess you'll have to settle for trying to using divisionary tactics.
LOL....good one.
It also scares me that her personal agenda is to reverse Roe vrs wade. She stated she was so proud her daughter decided to have the baby, a choice she wants to deny other woman. (A good discrption of this fact is from a skit by Samanta B, Jon Stewart's THE DAILY SHOW
