Does Alaska being close to Russia give Palin some International Experience?

It was really strange reading that Cindy McCain has tried to bolster Governor Palin's light resume by claiming that since Palin is from Alaska, and that Alaska is near Russia, this gives her International Experience.  No kidding.

Listen here:

         "STEPHANOPOULOS: But she has no national security experience.

McCAIN: You know, the experience that she comes from is what she’s done in government, and remember, Alaska is the closest part of our continent to Russia. It’s not as if she doesn’t understand what’s at stake here."

It isn't really THAT big of a deal.  But come on, this isn't just a ceremonial post we are talking about.  This isn't an ambassadorship to Lichtenstein.  The Vice-President is next in line to take over.

And let's not forget that Senator McCain at 72 is now the oldest potential President in history, that he suffers from recurrent Malignant Melanoma, and that this isn't just a theoretical situation.

Oh, but it is really THAT big a deal. They say she is going after the "working class, non-educated women," and they must think those women are stupid enough to fall for this garbage. What an insult!

Incidentally, I have personal experience with melanoma myself (all melanoma is malignant, but not all skin cancers are). McCain is still on three-month check-ups which means his doctors must be very worried. Melanoma is a very unique (and wild) cancer that doesn't necessarily follow any type of pattern. It could show up in his brain very suddenly - with no forewarning.

The most ridiculous glowing things are being said about her now, like: "She has more experience than Obama because Alaska is now so very important" (or some such stuff - ha ha). Let's hope there's enough time between now and the election to sort her out to the average American voter.

Oh yeah, and she waved goodbye to the National Guard once (on camera!!!) and so she has experience in war stuff now, too, we are being told.

Right! I never would have thought of that! And her husband, who used to be a commercial fisherman, has probably had interenational relations with Russian fishermen as well. They may even have hoisted a few brews together. Boy, we really need experience like that right now!

What McCain needed was someone with Executive Branch experience which McCain, Obama, and Biden have none at all. Out of the four she is the only one that has a direct connection with blue collar America, her husband is a reall working man and a Union memeber. For me this close ties with real people is more important than having a International Outlook. Also I am sure she is against globalism, and supports American First Polticy. Also she has a son who is soilder. To me when someone is willing to fight for his county there is not greater quest. For me it's greater to serve your country than to sat in the White House.

Alaska's distance to Russia is very important to the U.S. but Palin has nothing to do with national defence.

What will they say next she commands the strategic command when to fly lol.

I watched the interview and until this morning I thought Cindy McCain was a much more intelligent woman. I can understand her wanting to support her husband but that was a very unintelligent statement.

We must remember that it is McCain that is running for President. The Palin gambit was nice theater for a few days, but we can't forget that the McCain policies are the nightmare we're trying to avoid. If we keep him out of the White House, she can go back to Alaska.

In Palin's defense (?), she did spend a day in Kuwait visiting Alaska's National Guardsmen - then stopped in Germany to visit an army hospital last year.

I would have thought Romny, or Huckabee would have satisfied the religous right, plus they both were Govenors, and had a good following with voters being 2nd and 3rd in the primaries. Plus he already knew both them much better.

I don't compare Palin and Obama in experience cause that's a ploy to get people, in their minds to compare these two. Remember, Obama is running against McCain. Keep the contest between these two. If you want to compare the VEEPS, then it's Biden against Palin.

The GOP wants everyone to forget McCain and his policies as the issue

It makes as much sense as claiming she is from the largest state in the union (which, no kidding, I've also heard). You get there if you count land mass not population.

She first got her passport in July, 2007.

Our quarrel shouldn't be with her though. It should be with McCain.
