According to the July 22, 2008 edition of the Anchorage Daily News, Sarah Palin is being investigated for pressuring state bureaucrats to fire her former brother-in-law from a state trooper job, then canning the state's public safety commissioner when it didn't happen. Dozens of calls were made from her administration to get her brother-in-law fired, but Palin said she knew nothing about them. According to the ABC News affiliate in Anchorage, there are recordings of a conversation. Here is a link: http://www.aksuperstation.com/news/local/26967749.htmlIs
Is this the kind of judgment and morals that we want in a Vice President (and god forbid, President, if McCain were to croak)?
I'm more sure than ever that Barack Obama is who I'm voting for in November.

Interesting that McCain hardly knows her. He knew the other candidates much better. I wouldn't want her as VP, for sure, because af her limited experience. I would have voted for "anyone but McCain" for President anyway.
So she seems like poster child for "Right" views on "right to life" and McCain's foreign policy. She may not be a "Dancing Queen, " and possibly become a a great leader.
"Alaska Senate leaders want an investigation of whether Gov. Sarah Palin pressured and then fired the public safety commissioner because he wouldn't get rid of a state trooper who had gone through a bitter divorce with Palin's sister."
"I'm fairly confident at this point that what we're going to see is the appointment of an independent investigator," said Anchorage Democratic Sen. Hollis French, chairman of the judiciary committee. "
All anyone wants to do is find fault where there may not be any.
On the subject of her husband's employment status, he is a Union worker in the oil industry. Hardly in the pockets of big oil except, possibly, that giant Union wage he earns.
It has been reported, by Governor Palin, that a member of her staff made unauthorized phone calls regarding her ex brother-in-law. She has placed him on administrative leave, with pay, and has requested that the legislature investigate the incident.
In July, the legislature hired an outside investigator to see if Palin has done anything wrong. Results are still pending.
At the moment, it's all just a witch hunt.
Hmm.... now why would an aid not related to the family fued want the man fired so badly? I don't wonder they are investigating this, as this is just a ridiculous story. An aid falling on the sword for the boss is hardly any news.
You write,
"Is this the kind of judgment and morals that we want in a Vice President (and god forbid, President, if McCain were to croak)?"
Who are you to judge another's "morals and judgement"? If someone believes in the teaching of Creationism and abhors abortion are they "immoral"? If they are serving in a political role it's a game and there are rules on how to play it . You don't know if this woman was "corrupt." What about John Edwards' betrayal of his supporters? I could care less about his personal life but to lie about it as a candidate for President was stupid and irresponsible. He may have a good message while he lacked authenticity .
The whole state of Alaska is in the pocket of big oil, including Palin and her husband. Those people get annual checks because of oil rights. They depend on the money since they don't pay taxes so that is why the people there are so anxious to drill.
So I guess NO ONE from Alaska should ever dare seek election to a national office the huh Carla cause they must all be corrupted by "Big Oil". Nice label

No wonder she wanted him fired.
Maybe the brother-in-law deserved to be fired, although you have to admit that the recorded conversation is disturbing.
These are the facts. Take them or leave them.
- Wooten abused his ex-family, including using his taser on his 11-year-old stepson. (Using a taser for unofficial, personal use is illegal. Using it on an 11-year-old is just unethical meets savage).
- As governor, Sarah Palin has the authority to fire bureaucrats at will, whether she has a good reason or a bad reason. She could have fired him for wearing the wrong color tie on Tuesday, and she would be legally justified (though that would be silly--but firing him because he does not share her concern that a police offer used an official weapon out of personal rage--on a child--is not silly. It is common sense).
- Wooten also threatened the life of the governor and her father. Most would consider those threats serious and bring legal action against him. She did not. She was merciful. She also knows he is a coward because he can't even deal with children without using tasers, so she probably feels confident that he can't do much physical harm to her or anybody else who isn't too small to beat the crap out of him and his stupid taser.
- Gov. Palin never claimed to be unaware of the calls her husband and associates made; she simply said that she did not order the calls. I believe it, too. Palin has proved that she can hold her own, and if she wanted someone to tell somebody something, she would cut the middle man and do it herself. And she probably did. The rest was likely unsolicited help.
- Her husband is not an executive with BP. He works for them part-time and reportedly made only about $42,000 from them last year. If BP got a sought-after contract, it was because they were the best candidates for the job.
So you believe in limiting free speech now? If the comments on said article were so obviously contradictory and conflicting, don't you have faith the average Gather user is intelligent enough to observe that him/herself?
And TJ knows this because he knows everything and, at eighteen, is qualified to know who is the best candidate for a job.
Carla, I'm confused about the censorship thing. I thought you were criticizing the guy for not weeding out contradictory comments. Pardon my error if I misinterpreted that whole thing.
But TJ, I must say you are incredibly naive. Do you think that they would want to show him making a huge salary? That would really arouse suspicion.
Isn't that the essence of partisan politics?
I think an equally likely scenario is that Tood took leave and returned in a non-management position in order to avoid the appearance of impropriety. Isn't it possible that in an attempt to look uninvolved in the contract he actually brought attention to himself, accidentally, in hindsight? Innocent 'til proven guilty, right?
You better sign up for a class on American history there at Brigham Young. LBJ was the one who signed off on the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
Speaking of Brigham Young, maybe you can clarify for me what I've heard that Mormons believe about black people....Care to explain that, TJ?
If you want hard research, try reading one of my latest articles.
Since I scored a 5 on AP US History over a year ago, I think I'll continue to go by my comprehension of the facts. Everybody knows that LBJ pushed for civil rights politically but hated lacks personally.
"I'll have those n*ggers voting Democratic for the next 200 years." - LBJ
A real role model.
Your comment about LBJ's " hating blacks" seems cheap and stupid. Whatever he may have said, he wanted to get his civil rights legislation passed and he knew it would shift the South to the Republican party. He would say anything to anyone to get done what he wanted done.
Carla's stuff about Palin seems naive to me. I doubt Palin's fracas in Alaska will amount to anything that will damage her candidacy as VP. As Mo Dowd quipped, 'Sarah is a zealot, but she's a fun zealot.' Brilliant move by McCain in choosing her. High-risk, sure. He doesn't even know her, as he did the others. He would have liked Holy Joe Lieberman , but he needed to get the backing of the "Conservative Right," and Joe would have done the opposite.
Clarke, Check this out. He would say anything to anyone to get done what he wanted done. Isn't that called lying? Isn't lying what the Dems have been criticizing Bush for allegedly doing for the past eight years? Maureen Dowd? Are you kidding me? That woman is about as brilliant a journalist as the Russian state press.
School here begins on Sept. 8th.
Oh my! A mother-in-law who thinks poorly of a daughter-in-law! How absurd! This really IS frightening!
Only would an ignorant fool not know when to lie and when not to lie.
No, what's work? I'm just a rich Republican who has never heard of work before, because my parents own half a million acres of oil property in Texas and Alaska. And we shoot bison from planes and then leave their dead bodies there to rot. Then we LOL 'til we look like we're in a drunken stupor.
Clarke, dishonesty is never wise.
The reason we pick on Ms. Palin's record as a part-time mayor of a town of 9000 + people is because that's her experince. That and using her position as governor the same way as she did her smaller power as mayor to solve her family problems. What I read on Google news was that she fired right and left as she came into the mayor's office on the basis of a loyalty test. Fits right in with the lock step one brain per Administration neo con way of governing.
Yup, I'll bet an articulate man who likes to bring opposing people together to solve societal problems scares the pants off the opposition. And he has lots of experience at solving problems, something anyone who follows 20+ years of conservative Republicanism will need desperately. I just hope we get our votes counted with Diboldt in the pocket of the Bush dynasty.
What kind of man is McCain if he will submit to the very people who lied about him and made fools of him in 2000. Good thing his memory is failing, or he wouldn't.
If you could have the personal view of the country that I have had in my 68 years, then you would have knowledge. Right now you have education but lack experience. You are parroting your elders in the right-wing party. Research on the other side and then make up your own mind. That's why you have one.
As much fun as it has been to discuss how unqualified McCain and Palin are, the bigger issue is that no matter who is in that position, they will be controlled by the corrupt party. Until that party has been cleaned out, it is not safe to elect another Republican on any level.
And I agree with you about Charles Manson. I'll take an honest dangerous person over a dishonest one any day. At least I know where I stand and have a better chance with them.
I've heard Barack and Michelle Obama address your concerns (school, homeless, and the real people issues), and I know they have already inspired people who are working their campaign to get busy on those projects - now, before the election. But, I can't ask you to take my word for that or agree with their plan just because I do. I hope you'll do a little more checking.
If Mrs. Palin's husband or staffers were making phone call and she did not know it, she should have because I believe the fault lies at her feet irreguardless of whether she knew about them or not.
From everything I know and have seen about the Morman Church leads me to believe that a black person in a Morman Church is about a common as a black person at the RNC National Convention. My wife and I tried to count the few we could find when we were watching the coverage.
TJ needs a few years of real life where he is not living with his parents. I think he is repeating what he has heard them say all of his life.
