Coming up again this fall is the 2008 Cedarhurst Craft Fair Saturday and Sunday, September 6th and 7th, on the grounds of the Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mt Vernon, Illinois.
Central to the annual event are the estimated 130 artisans who offer creations of jewelry, glass, fiber, musical instruments, wood, painting, photography, metal, leather, bonsai , baskets and wreaths, often with demonstrations. In past years, I have interviewed kaleidoscope makers, a Missouri man who makes Western saddles for working cowboys, puppet-makers, and others at the craft fair.
The family-oriented event includes a huge craft fair, as well as a children's area located in front of the Mitchell House with gifts and games, and items targeted for the younger set are available at a Children's Store.
There's also entertainment, a Saturday Beer Garden, and a variety of concessions operated by local nonprofit organizations.
An Early Bird Shopping and Preview Party is Friday, September 5th. Shop at the craft fair from 5 to 7 pm that day. Dinner and entertainment runs $20, $25 for non-members, which includes gate admission and runs from 6:30 to 10pm.
A shuttle service ($2) is offered from Times Square Mall. General admission is $3.00, children 10 and under free. Hours Saturday and Sunday are 10am to 5pm. For more information, call (618) 242-1236, ext. 234. Or check the website at http://www.cedarhurst.org/.
