Just prior to being elected governor less than two years ago, the Anchorage Daily News described Palin's positions on social issues in a lengthy profile:
"A significant part of Palin's base of support lies among social and Christian conservatives. Her positions on social issues emerged slowly during the campaign: on abortion (should be banned for anything other than saving the life of the mother), stem cell research (opposed), physician-assisted suicide (opposed), creationism (should be discussed in schools), state health benefits for same-sex partners (opposed, and supports a constitutional amendment to bar them)."
She is against abortion even for cases of rape and incest, she wants creationism to be taught in public schools, and wants constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriage.
Since this is an opinion piece, let me state why I would not consider voting for this good looking lady. It is WRONG to discuss creationism in Science class. The bible is not a SCIENCE BOOK. It is a book of truth but NOT science. No religion/sect has a right to impose their NARROW religious beliefs on the public schools. By the way, as a Christian, I wish she would show as much tolerance to gays and environmental concerns as she does to religious zealots.

The VP can be a powerful office depending on who holds it (see Cheney).
Personally, I think that since evolution has no proof, creation and evolution should be taught side by side. If nothing else, every kid deserves to know what so many people DO believe is the true story of how it all began.
I think different on creationism, stem cell, abortion, and all social issues. Like I say, some agree with her and you are an example. I want everyone to know that she (just like you) believes in creationism.
As she says, why hide anything. Let America know she believes in creationism!!!
And she supports creationism being taught alongside other theories of evolution that have not been proven. Shouldn't children be exposed to more than one belief? I don't believe in hinduism but I don't object to state standards that say my child should know it's basic beliefs.
In the context of world religions creationism is probably fine. But next to and given equal weight in science class is just not factual and accurate. Science strives for accuracy which creationism does not.
Marilyn, I have no doubt you are proud of her positions. Hope everyone knows her positions.
As for being against stem cell research, no tax payer money for it but otherwise ok. I understand those with a moral objection to it but like abortion it should be in the private sector/realm of the personal choice.
The Constitution should not be played with to outlaw gay marriage, if states wish it to be legal fine but its not a Federal issue. The Constitution is not a living document but the bedrock of our Republic so it should be concerned only with large Federal issues, not religious or morality (or social engineering/justice) based ones.
I see little difference in both parties trying to use the power of government for the advancement of their issues, sadly most of you focus only on the other guys issues while ignoring the same level of dumbness within your own ranks. The list on both sides is pretty grim, the only difference is in what you are both wanting to force people to do.
