For those who don't watch commercials or even don't watch TV, the title is from that AT&T wireless commerical with the girl texting all the time & her mother nagging her about it. You can watch it here, if you've never seen it.

Anyways, I was looking around the web & saw this article about how much people in the states text... and boy is it A LOT! I'd have to say that I'm probably included in that billions. I have a plan for 1500 texts a month... sometimes I get to that, other times I'm nowhere close. How about everyone else? Do you text a lot? Or do your kids (or grandkids) text like crazy?

Ready for some truly staggering figures? VeriSign has reported that it delivered some 95.4 billion text messages between US carriers in the first six months of the year, setting a new record. Single-day and single-hour records were also set in the same period -- 648 million and 42 million, respectively -- proving that Americans are finally warming up en masse to text messaging as a totally valid means of communicating, probably thanks in no small part to the proliferation of devices like the enV2, Rumor, and Blitz. If you can call the complete bastardization of the English language used during texting "communicating," that is.

I am one of the rare US citizens who does not currently own even a cell phone. But when I did, I texted quite a bit. I definitely have to say that the language is one that takes some getting used to. Peace

For the most part, and for all intent and purposes, texting, cell phones, and other useless distractions are much to do about nothing. Depending on ones position and situation, these devises are maybe 10% useful, usually 90% a waste of time, effort, and money. How much is too much when it comes to anyone’s self importance?

I text mostly to my hubby, or to a friend.
It's handy, when you don't want to talk much.

i think that some people just don't like talking on the phone, hence the texting... also, i think a lot of people (mainly the younger ones) use it during classes when they're bored & don't want to listen to the lecture lol

I text with my brother every once in a while but that's about it. People I work with text all the time. one girl was texting with her supervisor who was driving back from an offsite meeting!

I text a lot to my best friend because I can't see or talk to her as much as I would like and oftentimes getting or sending a text provides a needed lift or bit of contact. It is also a handy way to send a bit of information when a phone call is not necessary or possible. Things like I arrived okay, or stop and pick up someting on your way.

not often, why jsut not call? The odd thing is that here in CA. it is illegal to drive and talk on the phone, but not illegal to text while driving! Go figure!

I get text alerts mostly - I love getting them, so I can stay on top of the news. It's great. I don't do so much texting other people though.

i don't know what i would do without texting ! i have unlimited.. & i probably send between 2,000-6,000 a month ! haha.. it's bad !

Georgiana, I'm sure they'll make texting & driving on the phone illegal too eventually! But what if you have one of those bluetooth devices in your ear? How are the police going to know you're talking on the phone?

I'm on the phone all day at work, the last thing I want to do when I'm off is talk on the phone.... I text around 2,000 a month... I'll text you to death before I'll talk to you!

My family texts alot and we include photos with text msgs sometimes.

My phone plan allows for unlimited text!

I like texting to a point. I only get 400 a month & so I don't do it as often...I have had friends mention to me to get unlimited, but if I am barely doing 400 then I don't need unlimited haha. I actually think it is very impersonal to text too much...depending on how well you know someone. There is one girl I knew in high school & I have tried to get in contact with her & even talk to her on the phone & all she will do is text...it gets very irritating...mainly cause she doesn't like confrontation & I guess she is worried she would get that from me LOL ;o) AND I think when texting & even emailing people people will take what is said in the wrong context & get offended by something that wasn't meant to be offensive. Anyways yeah I would rather talk to people in person ;o)! Guess that is why I am a receptionist on the front line where I work ;o)!
