Learning about Sarah Palin - 4 quick things you must know.

August 29, 2008 12:12 PM EDT

1. She is good looking (most important for McCain)

2. She is a creationist.

The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor's race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state's public classrooms. Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night's televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information."

3. Two years ago she was mayor of a village of 6000 people.

4. When she became governor, the race for 08 already started.

Well I had no idea what a creationist was so I looked it up. Heres a link if anyone else needs one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creationism

Really he is just trying to appeal to female voters since he has pretty shunned them and stomped all over them through out his polictical career. Really who he chooses for a running mate won't have much bearing on his ability to win the election. I mean even now most people are like "Cheney who?"

McCain is Amazing!! He criticizes Obama for having little experience, then he picks a VP with NO experience.

She was the mayor of a small town and became Governor of a small state just last year.

She does have a lot of experience; however, as runner-up for Miss Alaska and as a TV sportscaster.

Great pick.

She became governor 19 months ago. When the race for the white house already started. Nobody knows her positions on the issues, that's why McCain went for it. What a smuck.

But don't worry, we will digg up the dirt quickly.

I think it's safe to assume that part of the rationale for picking her was to pick up some of the female voters, perhaps even some disgruntled Hillary supporters. But her conservative creds suggest she isn't going to win over too many women, especially those who liked Hillary.

She is no maverick. She is a conservative. Way to fire up the Roe v. Wade vote. She is for overturning it.

The polls to look at are the polls that come out after September 14th.

I'm not sure how to take this, David. Would that mean he is going after the votes of all the guys in his party who think below the waist? Well, at least the half of them who are thinking about females? I can't imagine the wives of Mavericks wanting their guys to think about her often.

Keep an open mind. Give her chance. I don't like the pick but I think if she shows examples where she has shown good judgment, I can get over it. So far, I am not impressed.

McCain must have had internal polls showing him he could not win the race. This was drastic. You don't do this, if the polls are really tight. The Obama camp has been saying their internal polls are telling them something different. Now I believe them. McCain must have been really down. There are safer picks. This can work out but it's a big gamble.

So let's be clear. Jared is making fun of her small town roots (gee that should help Obama with small town America) and her inexperience---I guess it is better to have an experienced president huh Jared?

Now here are the facts. She has more executive experience than Obama and to my knowledge, she has never consorted with a known terrorist like Obama has, and is not a serial plagiarist like old Joe Biden.

Face it leftos you were expecting Romney, and they threw you a tough, conservative woman! Obama had his chance to pick a woman, you remember, Hillary Clinton who garnered 18 million votes. He instead went with old Joe, a Washington insider--More of the same. Looks like hope and change just switched sides!

It's not about the gender Kay. I am conservative and I think she has better credentials than McCain on that front.

Not all executive experiences are equal. Mayor of a town of 9000 is not being mayor of Los Angeles where you deal with pretty tough situation that you will see at the federal level. If McCain was 60, I would not care. The likelihood of her taking over would be minute.

At 72, this worries me. Close your eyes, it's December 08 and she takes over. Scary!

On the woman thing, nobody is voting a woman is pro overturning Roe v. Wade. When the dust settles in about two weeks, we shall know soon.

Mitt was the bait you took Jared, hook, line and sinker. McCain outplayed the left who had their attack ads ready for Romney. It was a brilliant pick! A feisty governor who talks the talk and walks the walk. Take your petty shots, gentlemen (and I use that term loosely).

What's her position on Iraq? (Let me guess the surge worked)

What's her position on energy?

on nuclear proliferation?

We know she is pro gun, against abortion? Those are the generic stuff. Anything else we don't know. We know she has no experience but it seems you don't need one these days for the White House and McCain agrees.

Uh, Alan, the surge did work, haven't you been reading the papers?

And she is for more oil exploration in this country. In case you haven't noticed, we import oil from people who hate us. We must start with getting as much energy from our country, to act as a bridge for alternative energy sources.

By the way, just what is Biden's energy policy?

O'Bama could NOT pick Hillary or she'd have had him " off'd " within 6 months to rise herself to the thrown.

Picking Sarah was brilliant on McCain's part but it may not make the difference. I have seen her several times on Charlie Rose and such places and was impressed with her.

She is actually my answer to fellow dems accusing me of being anti woman for hating Hillary. ( please check out " 7 strikes against Hellary " in my posts )
Voting FOR someone based on her being a female ( which is doubtful to me in Himmary's case ) is no less idioitic than voting against someone on that basis.

BUT I thank you for pointing out that Sarah is a Pro-creationist loon, before I went too far in supporting her.

I thought this was a GREAT pic for him since many dems have mentioned to me admiring her.

Myself included

BUT I can in NO WAY support any creationists so sorry, Sarah , my marriage proposal to her is off the table . ( She's married anyway to a eco-activist guy - ANOTHER brilliant reason for choosing her )

Kay we are talking about removing troops because the whole situation is a NO WIN .

Ya cant kill a rat in Pakistan by shooting in Iraq. WHOLE war was a half thought out move by a quarter wit president ( he'd have to gain intelligence to warrant half wit status. )

I actually liked and admired sarah and might have even backed McOldGuy with her as his understudy, UNTIL this post and my further googling proved out her kooky creationist in schools view.

Creationism should be taught in schools in philosophy and religion, maybe even ethics BUT not in science where facts and testing mater more than faith and belief.

Kay - I didnt like O'Bama's pastor situation either and it nearly swayed me away from him until a friend pointed out that my OWN pastor as a young man was also a flake, BUT I didnt " follow him ", I simply attended his services as a perception of social conformity.

Pastors dont really mean that much, mentors do . Intentions do and truth does.

O'Bama's acknowledging ;last night that the true solutions lie in the center of most of our deadlocks, won me.

I would have to support ANYONE's efforts to actually look to the half and half answers to abortion, immigration, gay marriage, etc etc etc

I have been amazed in my few years as an active dem at the LACK of open mindedness and compromise within our ranks while accusing the cons of the same.

( 2004 Our county convention couldnt pass a resolution supporting gay unions because it didnt say " Marriage " - GEEZ how narrow minded can we as a people be and expect to make any headway )

"I do take immense joy in seeing the Obamabots "hope" torn into a million little pieces. "

Ok, I get it...Obama and the DNC absolutely rocks the world throughout the week, hitting one grand slam home run after another, and that's meaningless. He picks a brilliant VP running mate, and that's a failure. He lays out the vast mountains of McCain failures, and eviscerates him as a disastrous presidential candidate, and that's meaningless.

BUT, McCain picks a nobody from a nobody state, who has practically ZERO experience, and is currently immersed in a corruption scandal, and that's somehow "destroyed democrat's chances?"

Ok, that makes sense. And, you wonder why people mock and ridicule you wingnuts? Jeebers...

Kay so you dont feel the need to answer my Keating 5 question. Hmm interesting.

The same priest I had growing up was convicted 3 years ago of molesting at least 29 boys from 1968 to 1989. So this makes me what a supporter of child molestation and the fact that most families in our small town used to have this same priest over to dinner at least 4 times a year.

Your logic is very flawed.

Governor of Alaska when the race for 08 practically started. Come on. Obama has been running for 19 months thereby getting prepared for the world stage. You think you can bring this woman on, give her a crash course on Iraq, Iran, Russia, Western Europe, Africa and let her loose? Give me a break.

"Kay what you dont get is that people arent for the most part slamming her for her inexperience but slamming McCain for basing his whole campaign on Obamas inexperience and then turning around and picking someone who has no experience."

Since when does a governor, a chief executive of a state have no experience Lori? Perhaps you should wait for the official script from the Obama camp before you say anything else. Your friend, Jared has already alienated small town America, you do not want to do the same with women, do you?

Jared, this pick points out the fact that McCain has poor judgment. What can we expect out of him when it gets heated in the Oval office and that phone rings at 2am and we need someone at the helm with wisdom and sound judgment. Will he make an experienced choice or the a seemingly safe marverick decision? His VP pick gives us some indication how decisions will be made in the White House under McCain. He simply lacks sound judgment to be president of the USA. We need a man of vision who has the audacity to think that he can do what the nasayers say can not be done. Obama did not cave into the pressure to pick Mrs. Clinton. He made a sound choice for the second in command. He exercised good judgment unlike McCain who did what he always does-he picked the prettiest girl he could find to take to the big dance.

No Jared, Obama has been getting his rear end kissed by the left and the media for 19 months, he is prepared to win American Idol, not the presidency.

O'Bama has already partly resolved the experience issue by adding an advisor with a wealth of experience and foreign policy knowledge for VP

From Ron Fournier, McCain's wingman at the AP

She is younger and less experienced than the first-term Illinois senator, and brings an ethical shadow to the ticket. A governor for just 20 months, she was two-term mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, a town of 6,500 where the biggest issue is controlling growth and the biggest civic worry is whether there will be enough snow for the Iditarod dog-mushing race.

Right on Michael!

Obama has been a senator for 4 years. She has been a governor since Obama practically started running for the White House and building his foreign policy team 19 months ago. Does not even compare. This woman is a tool. Give her a microphone one on one with the media tomorrow and let's see.

Palin's lack of experience undercuts GOP charges that Obama is not ready to be commander in chief. McCain said in April that he was determined to avoid a pick like Dan Quayle, the little-known Indiana senator whom George H.W. Bush put on his ticket in 1988. The choice proved embarrassing.

I am not bashing small town. I am saying running a small town does not prepare you for the VP. That small town is smaller than many of our universities. Then she became governor of a state with less than 700,000 people. Come on. Bring the mayor of Philly!

She is a beauty pageant! Talk about celebrity. She was on Vogue (featured). This is a joke. Wake me up, I am dreaming.

I will run for office. I think I can win something and who knows. In 8 years I could mentioned as VP. This is America. From beauty pageant to the white house.

No but I find McCain picking a woman just because she is a woman even more insulting.

So this lady doesnt need an agenda or morals or anything just a vagina to capture the girly vote.

What I find really sad is that people like Kay believe that.

Sorry. I forgot to tell you those were McCain's words. McCain went on to say Quayle was not prepared.

Yes they won in 88 and he was exposed. Since you only think about November 4th, that does not matter to you.

Gosh Lori, you conveniently left out the part of my statement about Biden being forced out of the presidential race in 1987. You want history, I can discuss history, it won't be good for your side though.

And please don't tell me you are mindless lefty who would vote for any democract.

And your point, again, what did that pick cost America? Let's see Al Gore was Clinton's choice in 92, terrorism gained strength during the Clinton years and we had 9/11--soooo?

Kay - While I was much more enamored of John Edwards, and then Biden and possibly one or two others prior to the caucuses, I have had to since examine O'Bama closer by force and have found him a better choice for me than all but Edwards and biden of my previous faves. ( I would still feel better about a Biden-O'Bama white house, but ya can't play if ya don't win ) I don't think you have LISTENED to him or his wife etc. with any kind of open heart or mind to be so anti good guy with a great message . I am not saying his election will usher in an era of love and peace BUT its a step towards the America that I have always hoped for, and believed was possible.

I actually think we are lucky in this election because neither of them is a bad guy. I could have effortlessly switched to McCain had the dem choice been Hillary, Gore, or Kucinich, ( OR Kerry again )

O'Bama has at least BEEN to the middle east ( with his eyes open and not napping ) has Sarah ? ? ( Bush prolly cant even find it on a map without help )

MY main 2 worries about McCain are his age, making his stamina an issue and his veep more critical ( good thing he picked someone I can 80% be behind - damn that creation glitch - I hope she was just appasing a constituency with that idiocy )

And secondly his ease in giving up the mantle of maverick, to pick up the party lines. I only hope that after he is elected ( IF he is ) that he can say " Ha Ha RNC fat cats I am prez now and am going to do things MY WAY . We'll see.

SIDE NOTE : My neighbor ( a Limbaugh for president sign owner ) just said that the next prez should profess and follow a scorched earth policy in the middle east - bomb them all and claim the land from South Africa to the Alps for Nato . WHADDA loon . When I worry that you people are nuts I go down the street and chat with him awhile.

She called Hillary a whiner. That will come out soon.

This is on politico, check it out:

She said she felt kind of bad she couldn't support a woman, but she didn't like Clinton's "whining," Newsweek reports.

Americans are whining according to McCain's policy adviser.

Hillary is whining according to McCain's VP.

Country First, Whining Last.

Good judgment? Birthing five children in a world that is already short on resources is not good judgment. Going into a job like this with a new baby is good judgment?

Fun take on the selection here

Jared you are being FAR too hard on Sarah, wait til you hear her speak and THEN judge. She is a balanced, intelligent, well spoken woman with her own views and ideas.

( I have watched her on TV interviewed without pre screened questions on several occassions )

She is impressive and what you all are avoiding saying is that like it or not a woman in todays politics MUST be good looking ( even men have to somewhat ) to even get enough attention to be viable.

( LOOK back at those primary folks that lost out to clinton, Bush, Reagan, etc etc - hell every president we have had since the dawn of Television has been pleasent looking.
THINK fat assed Taft coulda been elected via CNN, I doubt it )
