an innocent kiss

shameless kisses are what I most crave
blameless passion in my heart is brave
why can't we have a hopeful tête-à-tête
though by twists and turns we soon forget
that pilgrims blush in hopes of that sweet bliss
that could inspirit with an innocent kiss

I could never want you feeling guilty for
the very thing you always did adore
might I somehow make all your dreams come true
it's strange to say perhaps I always knew
that true hearts brought together could not miss
when they harmonize with an innocent kiss

though our wretched culture dissuades earnest hope
perhaps we could to times of yore elope
when men and women danced towards an embrace
and poetry sent lovers on their chase
did your ambition plan for such as this
a courtship leading to an innocent kiss

may your heart be granted all it could desire
with hope to build with you that earnest fire
I dare not interlope without consent
or else despair will send me Hell-ward bent
through impure motives down to that abyss
without approval from an innocent kiss
