Sporthaven Beach in Brookings is a multi-use, family-oriented beach. It hosts surfers, kite-flyers, dog walkers, beach combers, hot dog and marshmallow roasters, and all others who just love watching waves, water, boats, gulls and the odd pelican or two.

My father used to get lunch at that small fish & chips place next door to the grocery store that used to be there. Maybe named something like Hanscams. Anyway, he would watch the coast guard do their roll over exercises. He always thought it was cool.

Bill and I had our early dinner by this beach today. It was just this lovely. A little windy, the pelicans are gone for the year. It's one of my favorite places to go and watch the water, when I can't get out and frolic.. LOL. The waves are soothing, there are always people out and about.

Tracy, pelicans are my favorites, they are a little odd. They wouldn't beg for a treat at all and they totally disdain people. Our brown pelicans out here, fly in squadrons, really strong flyers.

Paidra, the Hanscoms is now the Hanscom Center, has Unemployment offices and other community services housed there too. The Coasties are still here too, doing their exercises and yearly rescues of the endangered. You should come over for a visit. ;o)
