Just when I think politics is enough to make me sick, the Democrats rise above resentment, bitterness, competitiveness and rancor. At 4:48 PM Denver time, Hillary Clinton released her New York Delegates and called for all the delegates to nominate Barack Obama by acclamation. And it happened. No bickering, no in-fighting, no sulking, no pouting, no demonstrations! Imagine. We can all get along.
Now let's take that movement forward and work towards eliminating the partisanship that has caused our society to fray and rot. If Democrats can agree, could the goal of national reconciliation be far behind? I think not. Any grievances or hurt feelings or bitterness in our party has disappeared. Our delegates joined together to show the country that it is possible to rise above all the pettiness, even among family members, when it is for the greater good.
The word 'compromise' springs forth and reminds me of a time when my countrymen and I wished only to live in a fair society. This business of 'my way or the highway' is passe, my friends. That greater good includes the right to the pursuit of happiness, protection from unreasonable search and seizure, the right for a woman to have power over her own body, the right to decent and affordable health care and the right for a person of any nationality speaking any language and with any skin tone, hair or eye color to be treated equally under the law.
No more 'driving while Black' or 'border patrol deportations' of legal residents and citizens who have earned the right to be here legally. No more women cracking their head on the glass ceiling of opportunity in spite of their hard work and advanced qualifications. And no more old people or young people or middle-aged people who may or may not have insurance but still cannot afford the treatments or general medical care they need.
It is time to invest in America's infrastructure, whether that is jobs, roads, bridges, airports, traintracks, education, medical services or mental health care. It is time for the average working person to be able to make their bills and put something aside each month so that they can help their kids' futures expand and still manage to look forward to retiring one day.
No more plundering of our riches, whether they are our talents, lives or tax dollars. Hear that John McCain? It's over. We are taking our country back, and although it is going to require great sacrifice on our parts, it is worth it. Your kind will have to slither off to wherever your kind goes.
I feel like America is going to take back what it lost in January of 2001 when Bush and Cheney and the other robber barons began plundering our most precious treasure and breaking our fine and fair laws. As the Governor of Ohio said the other day, "George W. Bush was born on third base like his father, but he didn't think he got there himself the way his dad did. Nope, he stole second."
It makes my heart swell with pride that our Democratic Party, the party of the common man, woman and child, has stopped squabbling. Finally! And, yes, we can thank Hillary for rising above whatever it was she was dealing with.
God Bless America, God Bless the Party and God Bless the Obamas and Bidens and most of all, God Bless Us.

He has said that Obama is ready and qualified to be our President.
YAYAYAYAYAY
The highlight of the day can't be seen on MSM, you'll have to search YouTube for Dennis Kucinich's fireball speech that was intended to be a "just a filler" and instead drew the floor audience to their feet in solidarity. I was in tears watching Sen. Kucinich's face as he left the stage, touched by the response. One day, America WILL wake up, and he will finally be president. Until then, it's OBAMA- BIDEN in 2008.
My congress person. Yeah baby.
We have leaders in this country. We push them aside for silly things that have nothing to do with governing. Instead we bring these incompetents who talk nonsense and get themselves elected.
And now, Meet the 2nd Woman President of the USA! Chelsea Clinton, 2052! After her mother, Hillary Clinton clinched the presidency in 2016.
Your article is Featured in the Triple Name Club.
GO DEMS
I Chelsea ever does run for the Presidency I hope it would be before 2052. By then she will be older than McCain is now.
Good article but I think you are bit too optimistic, Barriers may be cracked and dented, but people will still be arrested for driving while black and there will still be glass ceilings to be cracked and shattered. Discrimination will not disappear even if Obama has eight years, Hillary had the next eight and and she was followed by Chelsea as Kathryn suggested discrimination will be less prevalent and obvious but it will still be around.
If you expect miracles from our leaders you are destined to be disappointed. The best we have a right to expect is that they try their damnest to make things better, and be thankful even for even small successes.
I don't expect the miracles from our leaders, actually. I expect them to come from the ground roots, being led by leaders like Obama and Biden. I expect my children and yours are the ones who will have to follow through and turn our country around to make up for the mess we let happen these last few years.
The task is monumental and I am not naive enough to think it will happen even in one administration, but seeing things going in the right direction? That will give me peace of mind and hope will live on.:)
I wonder why she quoted Vince Lombardy..."winners never quit and quitters never lose" and holding her concession for so long. Her party was urging her to remember the "win" would be the Democratic party...not the individual candidate and that she was not helping the party win by holding her concession. Lombardy also said, "We didn't lose the game, we ran out of time". Was Hillary thinking that she still had some time?
Sure she made an electrifying speech...she is a good speaker.
Sure she released her delegates...what else could she do but assume the position of unity?
And she asked for Obama's nomination by proclamation. Very noble. VERY politician like.
It was all...as libramoon said, "great theater". Some of the speeches were very moving...great theater. It is a good speaker's ability to "charge" his audience that makes him a good speaker...along with a good speech writer.
Great theater.
He has proven once again that if you treat other people with dignity and respect, they will rise to the occasion. It is like expecting the best out of one's children. Obama even respects his competitors and people on the other side of the aisle. If that isn't presidential, I don't know what is.
Donald H. should switch parties. The only reason anyone might feel "ashamed" would be if they were totally and completely racists.
Elizabeth, I love your article. It is very well written and articulate.
