My son recently went to day camp and at the end of their session they had a bike rodeo. A bike rodeo is basically a obstacle course that is set up to help riders learn bicycle safety rules. It was sponsored by our local police department. My son won second place in his age division and was invited to the town wide bike rodeo at fire department headquarters. He was thrilled and I was very happy for him.

We went August 16th to let my son participate. He was ready to go and quite excited to be able to check out all the fire engines and see the firemen at work. They received 3 calls while we were there so the kids got to see them suit up and take off. It was neat especially in the eyes of a 9 year old boy.

Each kid got their turn to manuever through all sorts of little obstacles they also got a lecture on bicycle safety. It was a very educational presentation and I actually even learned a few things. I simply hopped on my bike and rode about pretty free when I was a kid. I never even owned a helmet. I also lived on a country road out in the middle of nowhere or so it seemed back then.

My son did not win a trophy in his age division but he was happy to have had the chance to participate. Everyone at the rodeo was treated to a local specialty of Praline's Ice Cream. Pralines a local ice cream shop donated several gallons of their fresh delicious ice cream so everyone was a winner. I even won :)

Every kid that participated has learned something. I think our community did a wonderful thing in helping educate our children. We all had a ball and I think my husband got just a weeee bit carried away......
