Inspired by the life of a young man, fighting for his country yet faced with predjudice because of his many layered cultural background. We should all be proud of who we are and let no-one bring us down.
This is for you Nas. Keep your head held high.
Semper Fi
Do you fear me because I do not look like you?
Do you hate me as I don't believe as you do?
Should I assimilate, if so, with who?
Are you the only one who walks the path to truth?
My blood flows red as I fight to protect the huddled masses
Hold my tongue as your hate spews forth like thick molasses
Wear my uniform of freedom, proud, despite the xenophobic fascists
I turn my cheek again and again; I've had lots of practice
Jesus loves me, this I know, Allah holds my hand
The Great Spirit rests inside me; I am part of many lands
I know right from wrong; I know who I am
Listen with the ears of the soul and you shall understand
Semper Fi, always faithful, no matter what may come
In the desert sands far from my beloved home
So you may eye me with distrust
Till the cities turn to rust
But I shall not abandon you
My Mama raised me right

This is AWESOME!
Thank you!
I shall email him, and also send this to his parents.
His "Granny" is still alive, but his "Pa", who was an officer in the Air Force -- fought in the Viet Nam, and the Korean Wars is now gone, several years ago. I believe, because he so adored his "Pa", that it was his inspiration for joining the Navy -- to be like "Pa".
Just awesome!
Thank you!
Thank you again!

I want to especially commend "Nas" for his service, for you are right in every way to encourage him to be proud of who he is. I loved reading every word of this!!!
The Great Spirit rests inside me; I am part of many lands
Alison, these two lines really struck me!!! They underpin the content so well. A lovely, lovely write.
