He was aging. For years he had been a white- faced clown. He wanted to be great like Glenn "Frosty" Little. Or Bob "Bozo" Bell. No time now. He was not an Augusti Clown, meaning foolish in German. He was not a Piernot Clown, French, and so sophisticated with their ruffles. His makeup to enhance the natural features, never hide them.
Who could laugh at sad eyes, a wrinkled white face? Or see years of laughter stored in his heart, given, and taken. And the children, his children. In every tent. Suddenly, he could not clown "around". Trademark tear, real.
