I had gone to a garage sale and gotten 2 chairs and a table for my outside patio for $5. I decided to put it to use last night and sat outside with a citronella candle going and I still ended up with half a dozen mosquito bites.

We don't have mosquitos where I'm from in socal. True, they do exist, but we rarely have a problem.

I hear Garlic is a good repellant, maybe some in a bowl will have enough scent to keep them away. I have never tried it but what the heck, it's natural and non-toxic.

Actually, I got mine from Avon but it was on sale so it wasn't too bad. I got three cans three years ago and still have a little left. I will probably need to get more for next year though.

For you the nice weather ends in October but you sometimes get an Indian summer where it gets unseasonably warm for a couple of weeks say around Thanksgiving.

I like the pump bug sprays, I think they last longer. Then I don't have to worrry about that ozone layer with aerosol cans. We have those biting flies, bees, lice, fleas, you name it. They are around.

If you can find unscented punks (incense sticks) they keep the skeeters and gnats away. Actually scented incense might as well, as they don't really like the smoky odor from them around here.

Well JoAnne, Chlorofluorocarbons (in aerosols) truly are horrible since a single molecule of a CFC can remain in the atmosphere and catalyze the destruction of ozone for up to 50 years.

when I was in Korea, these trucks would come around and spray out huge clouds of pesticides. True, it was horrible for the environment, but it was effective.

Similarly, did you know that the laundry detergents that we have now are actually less effective thatn they were about 30 years ago. Want to know why? The phosphates and other chemicals that were in the old detergents were really good at what they needed to do, but when they'd get into our rivers, lakes, and streams, they'd absolutely wreck the ecosystems involved.

well, what's surprising for many is that ticks are actually TINY. Most of the time, you would NOT see them with the naked eye unless you're specifically looking for them. Further, they can be tiny until they get filled with your blood.

Suffice to say the state is broke. Governor Granholm tries to entice business here but hasn't been very successful as yet. A thousand jobs here and there but nothing to replace the automobile industry.
