We sprayed the nest and scraped it off, but I thought it was the most perfect photo opportunity! I'd never seen one before.
Here's what the outside looked like:

And then the inside:

And on the inside were spawn and such that we had apparently managed to kill with the spray.



Partway through the photo opp, we realized we hadn't quite killed everything because one of the sacks actually began to hatch. So, of course, I stopped to take a few pictures before spraying it with stuff to kill it.

I've never heard of mud wasps but oh gosh... that's a icky one. Glad you got them all and no one was stung, though!
