My friend was driving me home from a doctor's appointment. She was making a left off the main road to another road coming to my house and as she started making the left a car two cars back tried to pass her. It was so quick, just BAMM and his car spun away. He pulled over to the side of the road we were turning on and looked at us like she had done something wrong. We all pulled into the fire house parking lot. She and I were both stunned, my heart was racing like crazy.
We all got out of the cars (my friend and I and the driver of the other car), they did not speak really except to ask if they were both ok. The EMT from the firehouse had come by on an errand she talked to us for a few minutes to see if we were all right and let me use her cell phone to call my Hubby and let him know what was going on. She also called the state police. Then this man walked over and was just standing there. I asked him if he was from around here. He said he was from WV, but was right behind us and saw the whole thing. Thank G-D! He said he would wait until the police came. I am from the city where alot of people never see anything. It's hard to believe there are actually people like this man around anymore. I just realized I didn't even ask him his name.
The state police came finally and interviewed my friend first. Then walked a little ways away and started to interview this man. I could not hear alot because I have a problem with background noise and there was a fair amount of traffic wizzing by, but I think that man told the officer that he had to avoid something my friend was doing which was dangerous and that is why he tried to pass her. Unbelievable! Finally he interviewed the really nice man who probably had places he had to be but stayed patiently waiting while all of this was going on.
The officer told the other driver "You know you are all fault" I know the other driver said something but could not hear what it was and the officer repeated himself. I asked the officer if he needed any information from me and he went into this long spiel about having a witness, da-da-da-da. That was ok by me because I haven't changed my license over yet. (Yes, I am a real gangster here!)
I have to tell you guys I am still pretty freaked out. My heart is still racing. Yes I took a chill pill. Earlier a large pickup passed us and as my friend put it almost got creamed by a tractor-trailor. Maybe it was a sign? I am praying my friend gets back to work ok. She was driving a company car so I hope she does not get into trouble. I should have asked her to call me when she got back. Hindsight is 20/20. She seemed really worried about that. Thank you to everyone who reads this for listening I feel a little better just writing it down.

I have been in one car accident in my entire life of driving, and it scared the p--s out of me...It wasn't my fault, and I got a new car out of the deal...
i was in a car accident when i was pg with my daughter over 10 years ago. we were hit by a drunk driver. our car was totaled........i still have panic attacks when i drive...
Very pleased that the man stayed to give his story. Hope he is rewarded someday and somehow for his good deed.
The other driver sounds like a real winner however. Makes you shake your head at the stories they can think up and wish you could shake him until he comes up with something closer to the truth.
I got in the right hand lane and slowed way down because I didn't want this moron behind me for very long... There was a guy in the left lane ahead of me in a big, old, beatup car with a woman and a bunch of kids in it and there was another vehicle in the right lane beside him in front of me.
As I watched, moron in the red truck zoomed up behind the big, old car and tailgated him about 2" from his rear bumper... The guy in the old car was trying to get around the guy in the right lane beside him so he could move over to the right lane and let the moron around him but it took him a minute or so to do it...
When he was finally able to pull into the right lane ahead of the other car, red truck moron
pulled up beside him -- pacing him and screaming out his passenger side window at the guy... I couldn't believe what happened next! Truck moron deliberately side-swiped the old car AT LEAST 3 or 4 TIMES as they went, neck and neck, down the road... It was like he thought he was in a bumper car or something!
I was taking my daughter to an orthodontist appointment (which only lasted just a very few minutes) at the time and, as I was driving back on the freeway to take my daughter back to school before going on to work myself -- in just about the same place where I'd seen this whole thing happen (but on the opposite SIDE of the freeway, of course) -- I see about 4 Highway Patrol cars pulled off on the shoulder along with -- guess who? -- the old car and, ahead of him a little ways, the red truck moron!
As I pass by, I can see the moron leaning up against his truck with his arms folded and a real SMUG look on his face as the cops are questioning the guy in the old, beatup car...
I could just TELL that truck moron had told the cops that the guy in the old car had hit HIM and I thought "They're probably going to believe him, too, because he's got a nicer vehicle than the old guy who looks like a hillbilly or something..."
I took my daughter to school (about 2 blocks away), dropped her off and turned right back around and pulled off the freeway right behind the last CHP car on the shoulder -- got out and started walking up to the nearest cop...
I told him, "I saw this whole thing." He says, "What whole thing?" and tell him about the red truck moron and the side swiping-bumper car trip... He asks me what time it was when I claimed that I saw it and I guess he realized I was serious when the time I gave him matched when it all happened...
He put his hand on my elbow and steered me back to my car (out of hearing of the other people) and, when I got to the part about the truck moron hitting the old guy, he stopped me and said "So you're saying that the red truck hit the car FIRST?" I said "Absolutely -- no question about it..." He shook his head and said "Well, that sure is a different story than the one WE were told..." and asked if I would testify to what I saw if I was subpoenaed. I told him I certainly WOULD and handed him my business card...
I dunno... I feel like the system would've just socked it TO that old guy with the beatup car if I hadn't gone back and talked to the cops that day and I'm glad to hear there are other people willing to stick their necks out to see that justice is served... Does my heart good...
(Oh yeah, isn't it always the most irresponsible drivers who are the most dishonest. I guess that's what allows them to drive so aggressively--not admitting how they endanger other people.)
I'd be shocked if it didn't.
I am so glad you and your friend are ok!
Sending hugs
